Animal Shelters and Rescues
For over 30 years Asheville Humane Society has been saving homeless Buncombe County animals. Today we operate both our own state-of-the-art Adoption and Education Center and the County’s only open door shelter where no local animal is ever turned away. We rescue, reunite, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, abused, injured and lost animals. We provide education, training and support to keep pets in their homes. Our nationally recognized innovative programs and partnerships are steadily moving Buncombe County toward a no-kill community.
FurEver Friends Animal Rescue Network has been helping to find homes for cats & kittens since 2002, making us the oldest continuously operating Animal Welfare organization in Buncombe Co. We hold adoption events almost every Sat. at Petco on Merrimon Ave. from 2PM – 6PM & on Sun. at PetSuperMarket on Tunnel Rd. from 2PM – 6PM. We have kitties that can be seen (and an introduction arranged by request) and kitties available for adoption at PetSupermarket on Tunnel Rd. everyday. We also hold adoption events at Tractor Supply on Brevard Rd. & Pet Supplies Plus on Hendersonville Rd. when requested by the store management.
All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, de-flead & de-wormed, provided with rabies and other vaccinations prior to adoption. We are an ALL Volunteer, no-kill organization, pulling animals who would otherwise be euthanized from high-kill shelters in WNC & SC. We also work with Community Cat caretakers to remove kittens thru humane trapping, providing S/N & using our foster network to socialize kittens for adoption.
We utilize PetFinders and Adopt-A-Pet websites for displaying our kitties on-line. We provide info on other cats in our foster network & our events thru our Facebook page (Furever Friends Animal Rescue Network – Asheville).
