Who: Asheville Regional Airport and American Airlines
What: Inaugural flight to Miami – this is the first time in history that Miami has been on the route map at AVL, bringing total nonstop airport destinations to 25 (and American Airlines’ ninth nonstop option from AVL), the most destinations the airport has ever had available. AVL is a bright spot in the travel industry – with passenger numbers exceeding pre-pandemic highs, and growing. An economic anchor organization in western North Carolina, it is important to mark these growth milestones with the community.
The airport will host a short ceremony to commemorate the new service, followed by a traditional water arch over the plane as it departs to Miami.
Visuals will include:
- Party at the gate with passengers
- Firetrucks forming a water arch over the departing plane
- Interviews with passengers, airport personnel available
When: 10:45 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022 (Plane departs at 11:55am)
Where: Asheville Regional Airport; Meeting point: main lobby – for escort to the gate
