The Music of Widespread Panic for Kids at The Grey Eagle
SUNDAY, MARCH 24 • 12PM
TICKETS >> bit.ly/WSP-For-Kids
The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country, allows kids to “move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (NY Times). Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games, movement, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. See you at the show.
The Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive, so we turn down the volume at our shows. However, all kids experience music differently and you may find that your child is more comfortable wearing hearing protection earmuffs, such as Baby Banz, which are available for purchase here.

Darko Butorac, conductor
Garrick Ohlsson, piano
Mozart | Symphony No. 25
Rachmaninoff | Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
Rachmaninoff | Piano Concerto No. 2
Star pianist Garrick Ohlsson, one of the world’s foremost interpreters of Rachmaninoff’s music, joins the Asheville Symphony for a program featuring two of the Russian composer’s concertos. The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini challenges both the soloist and the orchestra and is renowned for its devilish virtuosity and deeply expressive romanticism. The Second Piano Concerto may well be the best-known work for piano and orchestra ever composed, and it radiates with grand romantic melodies and lush orchestration. The concert opens by paying homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself with a performance of his Symphony No. 25, a work known for its rhythmic vitality and stormy character.

Originally from Chattanooga, TN, John-Michael Bond honed his craft as part of the nationally recognized Atlanta, GA comedy scene, running the 1AM Secret Show and working in rooms across the city. Creative Loafing magazine described his comedy as covering, “the arduous yet worthwhile pursuit of love, rationalizing vices with how they impact relationships, the wackiness of death, and why society should be nicer.” He feels that’s accurate. His comedy has also been featured on The Hard Times and animated by TBS. Structuring bios is not his main spiritual gift.

“HER MUSIC IS A CATHARTIC OUTLET FOR LISTENERS AS SHE SINGS ABOUT EVERYTHING FROM TRUE LOVE TO THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE. ROBINSON DIGS DEEP INTO HER PAST EXPERIENCES TO CREATE MUSIC THAT IS ALTOGETHER MELANCHOLIC, COMFORTING, AND SWEET.”
– American Songwriter
“PRESS RELEASES TOUT ‘BREAKTHROUGH ALBUMS’ ALMOST AS OFTEN AS CNN PROCLAIMS ‘BREAKING NEWS,’ BUT FOR ONCE, THE PHRASE ISN’T HYPE…EMILY SCOTT ROBINSON REALLY DOES DESERVE TO REACH A WIDE AUDIENCE WITH THIS CD. HER SONGS ARE WELL CRAFTED, WITH STRONG MELODIES…”
– No Depression
With her forthcoming album Traveling Mercies (out February 22, 2019), Emily Scott Robinson offers a complex, thoughtful portrait of a real itinerant artist, one who carries the lessons of her past as she searches for a hopeful future. She and her husband live full-time in a motorhome and spend long stretches on the road, turning chance encounters with strangers into stirring folk meditations on the human condition. A meditation on human frailty and the power of resiliency, Robinson is at times vulnerable, at others, defiant and absolutely free. Her snapshots portray real people who live and love and struggle to keep their balance atop a world that spins endlessly beneath their feet. “Traveling Mercies” is a tour de force from a traveler, a survivor, an elegant chronicler of her own existence and those of her fellow wanderers.
Tickets in advance are $12, and tickets at the door are $15.

Todd Snider
plus Reed Foehl
Show: 8pm
Doors: 7pm
$20 – $35
PARTIALLY SEATED
Ages 18+
Tickets & Info:www.theorangepeel.net/event/todd-snider/
Snider has long been recognized as one of his generation’s most gifted and engaging songwriters, so it’s no surprise he has returned with a brilliant set of songs — and make no mistake, Cash Cabin Sessions, Vol.3 contains some of his best work as a writer. But what really jumps out on the album is Snider’s growth as a musician and vocalist. He plays all the instruments on the record, and his guitar work and harmonica playing are nothing short of exceptional; not only full of feeling, but highly skilled. In regards to his guitar playing on the record, Snider says he wanted to take everything he’s learned over the past 30 years and play the way he used to play really well.
As far as his vocals on the album are concerned, Snider is singing with more confidence than ever, a confidence born in part from his time with Hard Working Americans doing nothing but sing. His stirring vocal performances range from slurring blues mumble to Dylanesque talking blues to gravely, honest ache.
