No Sunday is Complete without a stop at Sanctuary Brewing Company! Swing by Sunday, May 12th for a Sunday afternoon of jazz with the Peggy Ratusz Trio!
A well established presence in the Asheville music scene, Blues, Jazz, Soul & R&B Chanteuse Peggy Ratusz and her array of musical configurations (Daddy LongLegs/Swing Daddies/Lotion or Trio)perform an infectious, sultry, multi-layered brand of original, traditional and modern Blues, Soul. R&B and Jazz. While influences such as Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, BB King, Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt are evident, it can’t be denied that her unique soul and voice are one of a kind. She and her backing bands are particularly impressive during live performances where audiences witness her very core as it shines and is inspired by the rhythm, the melodies and content of the stories she tells. Every drop of emotion is authentic and shows all who are present, that she’s a willing servant to Jazz, Swing, Blues and Soul music. If you are a bride, a corporate events planner, event planner, festival promoter, charitable organization, etc, and are interested in hiring Peggy, contact Ellie Schwarz at Eastcoast Entertainment 828-232-5223 http://www.eastcoastentertainment.com/ellie-schwarz or Peggy directly at [email protected].

ABOUT ASHEVILLE DRAG BRUNCH:
Asheville Drag Brunch is the littlest big show in town! The event is designed to showcase local and guest drag queens, promote local restaurant businesses, and support local charities.
The show happens at multiple venues, is fast-paced family-friendly fun, and is designed to raise funds for non-profit organizations. These local groups rotate and are advertised with each individual show.
A ticket to brunch ensures a seat at a table or bar, the meal, and a beverage. Remember to bring tips for the queens as this is the main way they raise additional money for the local non-profit.
During the glitter-adorned affairs, patrons howl, clap and cheer as the queens channel celebrities with spot-on lip syncing and sky-high heels. And wherever you look, there is cause for celebration. Lively groups of different genders, races and ages whoop it up for all sorts of special occasions, from birthdays to bachelorettes to anniversaries, and even divorces.

Mrs Hughes began her comedy career when she was forty. “Years ago I heard Merv Griffin interview Phyllis Diller, and she said she started doing comedy when she was thirty-nine. I remember saying to myself, ‘I could do that.’
“Later, I met comedienne Candy Carr at Weight Watchers and she said ‘Write five funny minutes and go to the Improv.’ I already had five funny minutes, so I went. It was terrific! I remember the MC saying, ‘Go for it Mama! You’re funny!’ I got a huge ovation and I was hooked.”
As for her husband, she says, “He’s very supportive, but I believe he thought comedy would be like that afghan I started. I’d work on it for a while, lose interest, then stick it up in the attic with the exercise bike.” Neither of them expected her career to take off so quickly and have this much staying power. Mrs Hughes now has fans all over the world, some of whom show up at performances with tissues up their noses!
Mrs Hughes has two beautiful daughters and Scooter the surfer dude, (who’s the drummer in the garage band Fine Young Vegetables). Scooter and his girlfriend, Hiawatha, are engaged to be engaged sometime after the band makes it big. And he finishes his community service. And gets a haircut.
Her older daughter, actress and voice over talent Amy Snively, is married to a software architect, and has one son, Devon. Her younger daughter is a talented hair stylist who has three children; twins Brandon and Justin, and the youngest, Rini.
“That’s right,” she says. “I’m a grandmother. I don’t have any jokes about it ‘cause they live with us and it’s not funny.” Of course when you hear her talk about it you realize it is funny… very funny.
Her act is punctuated with pithy observations on parenting, hot flashes, and husbands, “They’re like brassieres. Sometimes you just want to be rid of them and go free. But you can’t ‘cause you need the support.”
It was just this sort of remark that caught the eye of the Russ Berrie Company who featured Mrs. Hughes’ likeness and wit in her own line of greeting cards. “According to Carol” was in 100,000 stores and gift shops throughout the United States. Now Mrs Hughes is featured in a delightful line of animated ecards! Search for “Mrs Hughes” on http://www.doozycards.com!
About Mrs. Hughes, the legendary Merv Griffin said, “She’s my new favorite funny star” and he featured her in major production shows in his casinos. Since then she has appeared in several additonal casino production shows, has opened for Crystal Gayle, Lou Rawls, Brenda Lee and others, appeared on the Craig Ferguson show and entertained at Jerry Lewis’ MDA telethon.
So if any one happens to ask, “What’s a nice lady like Mrs. Hughes doing in a Comedy Club?” The answer is, “Cracking people up!”

Krista Shows returns to Isis with Drunken Prayer for an early evening of strong music, subtle wit and string wizardry.
Singer songwriter Krista Shows is tied up in a place. Her sound – a combination of folk, R&B, and country with a raw, emotionally-gripping note that comes straight from the gut – is born of her life growing up in Mississippi, a place abounding in twofold realities.
Drunken Prayer celebrates a new album, Cordelia Elsewhere. An eccentric descendant of outlaw country, these songs bare witness to life on earth in uncertain times.
