Yoga for Recovery

Save the date
October 7th
2-4pm
Tickets available soon!
$25 – 35 sliding scale

Bethany Otten began her recovery journey in 2013, and started teaching yoga two years later. Yoga gives us tools to handle many of life’s ups and downs, and the process of recovery is no different. This workshop is for both students and teachers to get a better understanding of people in recovery from addiction. This 2-hour workshop will consist of a discussion to help educate others in what it means to be in recovery and how to use one’s yoga practice to help assist in this process, followed by an asana class and meditation that is beneficial to all students, but designed specifically for those in recovery.

Bethany says “It is a privilege to teach yoga to those who are coping with recovery and to those who know someone who is. Recovery is a subject that is near and dear to my heart as each day my own recovery continues. Yoga for recovery has truly helped save life.“ Bring your mat and an open heart.

9.30 + 10.07 // Making Paper and Books with Plants of Appalachia
Oct 7 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Villagers: Urban Homestead Supply

**PLEASE PRE-REGISTER ON OUR WEBSITE**

Process, community, and collaboration will be the themes of this 2 part workshop. Starting with raw materials, transform plants into sheets of paper and bind them into handmade books. In the first session, learn the details of harvesting, cooking, and blending plant fibers into a workable pulp. Get hands-on in the vats of pulp to collectively pull sheets of paper from 4 common plant species. Working together, the group will produce shared stacks of paper for bookbinding. In session two, you will transform the handmade paper to create a series of hand stitched pamphlet books that can be used for drawing and journaling, or as a reference for future paper making explorations. Participants will work together to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Everyone will take home at least 2 books, reference handouts, and the skills to make plant based paper and pamphlet books on their own.

$75-100 per person, sliding scale. Class size is limited to 8.

Alyssa Sacora is a maker that explores plant based mediums in the form of papermaking, book arts, basketry and natural dyes. She finds her place in the garden amongst the vast array of art supplies that she grows. Her home is in Fairview, NC where she resides with her husband, cats, and bees on their homestead, The Patchwork Underground.

BMC Presents: NU:Logic (NU:Tone & Logistics) Hospital Records UK
Oct 7 @ 7:00 pm – Oct 8 @ 2:00 am
Timos House

10.7.2018

BMC Proudly Presents : NU LOGIC (Hospital Records , UK)

Nu:Logic is a collaborative partnership between Hospital signings Nu:Tone and Logistics. The two brothers, Dan and Matt Gresham, first joined forces under this new alias in the mid-noughties, with the first Nu:Logic release “On & On” appearing on Hospital in 2004. The project went on the backburner until 2010 when they released their “New Technique” EP to great critical acclaim.

The pair combine the music that they love – music with soul, atmosphere, tension and groove – together into one melting pot of sound. Whilst growing up they were exposed to the same music, but quickly found their tastes diverging. However now they are older, these have moved closer together again and at the core is a shared love of artists such as DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, MoWax, Full Cycle, Heaz, No U Turn, Jazzanova and Calibre.

With several individual albums between them and the recently released “Morning Light / Grizzly” single which has been making waves in the D&B scene and beyond, their debut album ‘What I’ve Always Waited For’ dropped in March 2013.

After 4 years and many solo projects, the brothers return with their exciting second LP ‘Somewhere Between The Light’.As two pioneers of the signature Hospital sound, brothers Nu:Tone and Logistics have become influencers and tastemakers in the genre with a deep back-catalogue of smooth, soulful, liquid drum & bass. This 13-track long player soars through the same ethereal movements with a welcomed dip into new territory.

Maria Muldaur:

WEBSITE: http://mariamuldaur.com
HEAR SOME MUSIC: https://soundcloud.com/mariamuldaur
SEE A VIDEO: https://youtu.be/-82WpCjWU-I

Maria Muldaur is best known world-wide for her 1974 mega-hit “Midnight at the Oasis,” which received several Grammy nominations, and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable pop music success, her 55-year career could best be described a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music. During the folk revival of the early ’60s, she began exploring and singing early Blues, Bluegrass and Appalachian “Old Timey” Music, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band and shortly thereafter, joining the very popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring and recording with them throughout the ’60s.

In the 44 years since “Midnight at the Oasis,” Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 41 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music, including Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Big Band (not to mention several award-winning children’s albums). She has now settled comfortably into her favorite idiom, the Blues. Often joining forces with some of the top names in the business, Maria has recorded and produced on-average an album per year, several of which have been nominated for Grammies and other awards.

Her critically acclaimed 2001 Stony Plain Records release, Richland Woman Blues, was nominated for a Grammy and by the Blues Foundation as Best Traditional Blues Album of the Year, as was the follow up to that album, Sweet Lovin’ Ol’ Soul. Her timely 2008 album, Yes We Can!, featured her “Women’s Voices for Peace Choir,” which includes: Bonnie Raitt, Joan, Baez, Jane Fonda, Odetta, Phoebe Snow, Holly Near and others. In 2009 Maria teamed up with John Sebastian, David Grisman, and Dan Hicks. Maria Muldaur & Her Garden of Joy garnered Maria her 6th Grammy nomination, and was also nominated for Best Traditional Blues Album of the Year by The Blues Foundation.

In 2011 Maria released Steady Love, a contemporary electric Blues album that reflects the kind of music she loves to perform live – what she calls “Bluesiana Music” – her own brand of New Orleans-flavored Blues, R&B and “Swamp Funk.” Steady Love reached #1 on the Living Blues Chart, and garnered her another nomination for Best Traditional Female Blues Artist from the Blues Foundation.

In 2012, for her 40th album, Maria produced the critically acclaimed ….First Came Memphis Minnie, a loving tribute to the pioneering Blues woman who inspired and influenced so many female Blues artists who followed in her footsteps, many of whom joined Maria on this special project: Bonnie Raitt, Phoebe Snow, Ruthie Foster, Koko Taylor and Rory Block accompanied by the amazing guitar work of Del Rey, David Bromberg, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Roy Rogers, and others.

In 2013, taking a brief hiatus from her yearly recording schedule, Maria focused on 3 special collaborations, performing worldwide with the 50th Anniversary Kweskin Jug Band Reunion concerts, teaming up with the Campbell Brothers, world-renowned Sacred Steel Gospel artists, for a very special presentation entitled, “Spirit & The Blues”, and touring as Special Guest Artist with Bill Wyman and The Rhythm Kings.

2014 marked 40 years since Maria’s big hit “Midnight at the Oasis” was riding at the top of the charts. To celebrate this landmark, Maria has created a multi-media retrospective Way Past Midnight , which chronicles her 55 year journey “to the Oasis and Beyond”. This special presentation features all her hits and fan faves from every stage of her career, as well as fascinating, entertaining, (often humorous!) stories of her personal encounters, friendships, and collaborations with many of the greatest names in music.

This year, Maria and The Last Music Company are pleased to announce the release of “DON’T YOU FEEL MY LEG ~ The Naughty Bawdy Blues of Blue Lu Barker” on September 28th. Recorded in New Orleans with an amazing cast of A-List NOLA musicians last June, this album finds Maria at her finest, and is true to the spirit and soul of New Orleans and Barker’s funny, coy, and risqué material.

Maria Muldaur continues to tour regularly world wide, and is available for festivals, concerts, club dates, workshops and residencies.
