Local color inspires this holiday concert by the Asheville Gay Men’s Chorus, featuring historic seasonal tunes from the Appalachian mountains in both traditional and modern settings, as well as African-American spirituals. “At the Creche” by local composer Jonathan David uses text by UNCA professor and poet David Hopes to bring a menagerie of animals to the manger accompanied by the familiar Southern Harmony tune “Wondrous Love.” In addition, a lovely setting of “In The Bleak Midwinter” by AGMC founder David Friddle brings us back to our roots and helps us celebrate the familiar alongside the new. Join us for a memorable evening. Asheville Gay Men’s Chorus is now in our 20th season and strives to entertain, advocate and educate.

This fresh adaptation of the film is set in the fictional studio of WVL Radio Theatre, which is struggling to stay on the air one snowy winter’s night. The professional voice actors are unable to get to the studio, but the show must go on—and so a small but intrepid band of employees manages to create the story’s dozens of characters and scenes using just their voices and some everyday household items for sound effects.

A revival of 2016’s premiere of this holiday family crowd-pleaser! It’s Christmas Eve in 1955 at a small town train depot where the snowy weather has caused some delays. Over the course of the evening, strangers become friends, friends become family, and the warmth of human connection is deepened through stories and songs. Though the weather outside is frightful, inside the depot it’s delightful as memories of Christmases past are shared. Written by local storyteller and musician Tom Godleski and performed with original music and traditional songs by local bluegrass musicians. Directed by Lori Beland Hilliard.

The Magnetic Theatre invites you on a trip back in time, as we present the wonderfully wicked 25th ANNUAL BERNSTEIN FAMILY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR. Now in its 9th year, this R-rated holiday spectacle is a hilarious, envelope-pushing ode to the TV specials of yesteryear, with the dysfunctional Bernstein clan doing a variety of skits, as they pay a twisted kind of homage to beloved Christmas traditions. This show is absolutely for adults only, and only for those who are willing to go along for a ride with some delightfully depraved individuals!

The 2nd annual BackPack Slam Jam is a concert series to raise money and food through ticket sales and donations for the Backpack program of the No Kid Hungry Foundation of Western North Carolina! Its for the children who have free or reduced lunches at school but when they go home for Christmas break their families may not have the money to feed them 3 meals a day. In severe cases the only meal the child gets is the free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school. So our goal is to raise enough money and food to were all children of WNC can go home on Christmas Break and have a pantry full of food. That’s one less thing for the family to worry about during this wonderful time of year. 100% of all proceeds go towards the cause!

The third in the Winter session of WCS, and the final event of the 2018 year. Next year we’re going to be trying out some new formats on how the event will play out.
This winter season Veda Studios will be hosting some new faces. West Coast Swing is a popular social dance form with roots in Lindy, Hip Hop, and Fusion.
Schedule for the night is largely the same! A beginner lesson from 8 to 9, Blues music from 9 to 10. But now, we’ll be featuring WCS music (which can sound a lot like the Fusion you’re used to) from 10 to midnight.

Lifelikewater is the brainchild of David Matters and is a musical response to a radical shift in awareness.
After many years of creating music through various projects (most notably the newgrass band, Gipsy Moon) as well as a number of genre shifts, his focus has narrowed and his vision has broadened.
Together, with his bandmates Megan Drollinger and Charles Furtado, Life Like Water has developed a sound that straddles the edges of contemporary folk and traditional music from around the world.
This music contains elements to fit almost anyone’s taste. You can dance, groove, bob your head, space out, tune in, relax, get excited, and possibly even shed a tear to it.
