Yoga for the Obliteration of Tyranny with Jo
Dec 15 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
West Asheville Yoga Studio

Yoga for the Obliteration of Tyranny with Jo
11/24/18 + 12/15/18 4-6pm
West Asheville Yoga

Rage, grief, and fear are all sane reactions to being silenced, destabilized, or made to feel invisible, powerless, or ashamed. It makes sense to get angry and it makes sense to go numb—whatever it looks like, self-preservation makes sense. Things stop making sense when we use our vital power to silence and destabilize ourselves and each other—using internalized tactics of tyranny to cope with the harms of tyranny, we perpetuate cycles of abuse and disconnection.

Designed to honor and replenish the deep systems of your body, this class explores different ways of reclaiming power, sensation, and hope.
The practice integrates yoga, music, and guided visualization to provide a space for healing against dissociation, rage, and apathy. The slow-moving pace of the class is set to a carefully-crafted soundtrack of ambient and heavy music. Sometimes the music is moody and relaxing—sometimes it is raw and relentless. Whatever its quality, the music models how intense emotions can be channeled into creativity rather than into destruction and despair.

This offering is intended for all who are burdened and harmed by the homogenizing and dehumanizing violence of American culture.

Offered on a sliding scale: $5 – $25

About Jo:
I’m rooted in the understanding that our bodies instinctively know how to heal. My classes support somatic healing based in transformative justice—learning to follow the body’s tendency to let power flow freely within and among complex systems. I believe that connecting to core awareness and sensing the deep subtlety of our native existence is a critical step in growing past white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism, and the harms of colonial culture.

Cautions:
If you are already taking medication, do not use CBD without speaking to your doctor or pharmacist first as drug interactions are possible. There’s no risk of serious consequences of taking too much CBD, because there’s no cannabinoid receptors in parts of the body responsible for controlling heart rate and breathing.

Embracing the Darkness with Yoga & the Art of Ritual
Dec 15 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Long Time Sun Yoga and Wellness Center

Embracing the Darkness of Winter with Yoga & the Art of Ritual

December 15, 6-9 pm in Fairview at the Long Time Sun Yoga Studio

Register here: http://www.longtimesunyoganc.com/embracing-the-darkness-of-winter-with-yoga-and-ritual/

Winter, with its shorter days and longer nights, can bring opportunities for moving inward, slowing down and mindfully reflecting. For some, the transition to more darkness can be difficult bringing sadness, anxiety… even fear and stagnation.

In this 3-hour workshop, participants will learn how to overcome… even embrace and more fully celebrate and prepare for this energetic shift with its ensuing months of less light.

Participants will:
> Create sacred space in preparation for the longest, darkest night of Winter Solstice.
> Consciously access the energies of the season for restoring balance and strengthening connections with nature’s rhythms by practicing rounds of Moon Salutation (a sequence of yoga postures which harness and honor the more cooling, soothing yin energy of the moon), and other whole being ritualistic practices.
> Learn how to integrate and ground these practices into daily life.

A locally sourced, handmade and energetically charged herb talisman as well as a 27 bead handmade moonstone Mala will be gifted as well as instruction on how to use each for personal ritualistic practice.

Join Cat Shepard, local Shamanic Priestess, and Jeri Senor, Yoga Instructor, as they co-create this powerful and transformative experience of finding meaning, purpose and grounding through our centers in the flurry of winter’s activities.

Fees for this workshop are $50.00 – includes handouts, an energetically charged herb talisman, and a 27 bead semi-precious Moonstone Mala.

Note:
Because the facilitators make sacred objects for this workshop, pre-registration is required. There will be no refunds for this same reason. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can begin and end on time. Maximum number of participants is 12.
