Looking for a festive addition to your family, just in time for the holidays? Then join us at FUR’s “Home FUR the Holidays” adoption event on Saturday, December 15, 2018, from 1-4 pm.
With a wide variety of kittens, adults and seniors to choose from, we are certain to have the purrfect kitty for you and/or your family!
WHAT TO EXPECT:
FUR is a cage-free sanctuary. That means when you come to visit, you will not be overwhelmed by kitty cries coming from small cages. Instead, you can visit the cats in their rooms, play with them with their own toys and wander around the Sanctuary at your own pace.
All kitties who get adopted go home with a bag of goodies, including a sampling of their favorite foods, treats and toys.
Light refreshments will be provided.
FEES:
At FUR, all cats are altered (spayed or neutered), vaccinated, treated for fleas and parasites, and microchipped before going to their furever home. All of this is done at NO extra cost to you! We simply ask for a small adoption fee so that FUR can continue to care for the next cat that comes our way:
$35 per kitten (reduced for this event — typically $65)
$50 per adult
WHY FUR:
FUR NEVER euthanizes a cat to make room for other cats. As a no-kill, last-chance Sanctuary, we accept those cats who, without us, may not live to see tomorrow. That includes the abandoned, the abused, the neglected and the injured. We rescue them, rehabilitate them and rehome as many as possible. Some may never recover enough to find a furever home, but we never stop trying — even if that means they live the rest of their days at our Sanctuary.
Aside from physically caring for cats, we help the community by providing counseling and education, helping families to rehome their own cats when needed, financing vet bills in dire situations when families cannot afford them, arranging for short-term foster care when possible, pulling “unadoptable” or sick cats from county Shelters, tending to cat colonies and more.
Every FUR adoption allows us to help more cats in Western NC. That’s why our motto is: A SECOND CHANCE STARTS WITH YOU. Because YOU make the difference. YOU help us complete our mission. FUR cats are rescued because of YOU.

December 15 is a big day for getting into the Christmas spirit. We’ll be doing the Arboretum walk- lake version. This walk takes you through portions of the formal gardens then along Bent Creek on the way to Lake Powhatan, through woods on easy trails to return to the lake at the swimming beach and then back to the formal gardens on the other side of Bent Creek with entirely different views.
Registration is 1:30 PM with step off at 2 PM. There is both a 5 and 11 KM option, both rated 3B. Walking sticks and good hiking shoes recom-mended. Plenty of time to finish and make the club’s Christmas dinner the second event of the day. The third event is the return, for those who want to see the lights at the Arboretum. To get there, take I-26 and get off at exit 33. Follow NC 191 south approx. 3 miles. Turn right at light for the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn right to-wards the Arboretum gate. Go to the Baker Exhibit Center where we’ll meet. There is a car charge but annual pass holders can get in free. See below for carpool information.
Following the North Carolina Arboretum walk on December 15, the Amblers will gather at the Stone Ridge Tavern for our annual Holiday meal. The restaurant is located at 1003 Brevard Road, a short distance from the Arboretum. Stone Ridge Tavern is family owned and operated since 2004, and they take immense pride in providing folks in the Asheville area with a fun, friendly dining experience. They will offer us a choice of five menu options, including a vegetarian option, and the meal will include salad, a non-alcoholic beverage, and dessert. Additional beverages may be purchased separately. As we’ve done in the past, the Amblers will contribute toward the cost of the meal for each member. Thus, the total member cost for dinner will be $18.00, including tax and gratuity. Non-members will pay $25.00, tax and gratuity included. Dinner will be at 5:00.
Stone Ridge Tavern will need a headcount from us, so please contact Don Colbath ([email protected] or 828-515-0227) to reserve your space before Saturday December 8. Please plan to pay in advance (with exact change if possible, or a check made out to Asheville Amblers for $18.00) or at the restaurant.
If you don’t plan to do the walk, please join us for dinner at 5:00 on December 15. We look forward to a fun, festive, and tasty evening.
To further entice you to join our Holiday celebration, the menu choices are as follows:
Stone Ridge Chicken – marinated chicken breast with Monterey jack, cheddar cheese, applewood bacon, and mushrooms
Herb Crusted Pork Chops – grilled boneless pork chops lightly breaded and topped with lemon butter sauce
Hamburger Steak – 9 oz. fresh ground chuck topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms, and brown gravy
Alaskan Whitefish – grilled, fried, blackened, or broiled
The above are served with a salad and choice of one side.
Homemade Vegetable Lasagna – fresh vegetables, marinara sauce, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, served with salad and garlic bread
Dessert is chocolate cake garnished with whipped cream
In addition to providing dinner, Stone Ridge has also agreed to allow us to use their parking lot as a meeting point for carpooling to the Arboretum. The Arboretum charges a parking fee, but entry is free for annual passholders. It would be helpful to know in advance who has a pass and who needs a ride to be sure we can accommodate everyone. Contact Don Colbath if you will need a ride or if you are a passholder who can transport others. Please arrive at Stone Ridge by 1:15 to coordinate rides.

As DxE grows a grassroots movement that’s dedicated to total animal liberation and is gaining political power, the animal exploiting industries are becoming increasingly concerned. We’re seeing an unprecedented amount of animal rights activists being charged with felonies and some activists, including DxE co-founder Wayne Hsiung, are facing decades in prison for taking sick and injured animals to the vet and for exposing criminal animal cruelty in factory farms supplying corporations such as Amazon, Whole Foods and Costco. Help us make a statement to our government and the public that rescuing animals is not a crime.
We will do an action that disrupts normalized violence towards animals. Afterwards, join us for a vegan dinner in downtown Asheville!

Do you or someone you know love wolves, dogs, love to paint, love wine, or just love to have fun and support our local wolfdog sanctuary while doing so??? Saturday, December 15th, come on out to Weinhaus at 86 Patton Ave in downtown Asheville for a wolf-themed Christmas “paint-and-sip” fundraiser!
Half of all tickets sales will be going directly to Full Moon Farm, a wolfdog santuary located in Black Mountain. (You can learn more about Full Moon Farm and its residents by clicking here: http://fullmoonfarm.org/ ) As it is with most animals, expenses can be much higher in the winter months, and running the sanctuary for these beautiful and majestic wolfdogs is no different. (They eat A LOT!) Not only will you be supporting the sanctuary by painting with us, but you will also have the opportunity to MEET one of the “ambassadogs” from the sanctuary, as well as talk to some of the volunteers and learn all about Full Moon Farm and wolfdogs!
Bring someone along as a Christmas gift, give someone this experience as a gift, give your finished painting as a gift, OR gift it all to yourself! (You’re TOTALLY allowed to do that.) The whole painting is instructed by one of our talented artists, step by step, and all supplies are provided. We also provide aprons to keep your clothes paint-free, and you get to take home your masterpiece at the end of class! Come ready to try a few brews or wines while you paint, which you can purchase right at the Weinhaus bar. (This event is definitely open to anyone younger than 21 years of age, and kids, too!)
Tickets are $35 per person and the class is limited to 32 guests, so get your tickets soonPlease purchase your tickets ahead of time, it helps us out greatly, and makes sure you get a spot.)
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

This fresh adaptation of the film is set in the fictional studio of WVL Radio Theatre, which is struggling to stay on the air one snowy winter’s night. The professional voice actors are unable to get to the studio, but the show must go on—and so a small but intrepid band of employees manages to create the story’s dozens of characters and scenes using just their voices and some everyday household items for sound effects.
