KalimbaMan
Apr 4 all-day
Noble Kava

Considered by many as one of the best kalimba players alive today, Kevin Spears musical gifts have astounded audiences around the world and rewritten what was thought humanly impossible on this exotic musical instrument.

Spears’ blinding skill and musical creativity are often compared to innovative legends such as Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix and Les Paul among others and his uncanny ability to play multiple musical and percussive ideas simultaneously in a live setting is iconic, pure and simple…

Spears music is an acoustic electronic mix of funk, afro-beat, latin, trance with a dash of rock that will move your feet and stir your soul.

In addition to making his own instruments, KalimbaMan (as his friends call him) performs internationally including a recent tour of Japan and has worked with and/or opened for artists such as: Victor Wooten, India.Arie, Eric Benet, Col. Bruce Hampton, Toubab Krewe, Wudasse, POS (of De La Soul), Arrested Development, Bill Summers (of Herbie Hancock band), Vinx, Jhelisa Anderson, Divinity (bassist for Beyonce).

April Wake Up Workshop

Lenoir-Rhyne University Asheville

21st Century Grant Applications: Online grant proposals are here to stay. They are frustrating, exasperating and daunting. Still, we often must present our case for support in 2,000 characters (- 350 words or less). Writing tight or to the point while getting the attention of the grant reviewer has never been more crucial. The techniques discussed will help you craft successful paper and paperless proposal narratives.

Ben Frankin’s 13 Virtues Circle
Apr 4 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Jubilee Community Church

Founding father and master inventor Benjamin Franklin was also a pioneer of self-improvement. In 1727 Franklin formed the Junto, a weekly mutual-improvement club made up of a group of his peers and fellow Philadelphia tradesmen to discuss 13 core virtues and explore how to better incorporate them in their lives – and use them as a foundation for enriching the world. The club became the launching pad for all sorts of civic initiatives: the public library, the post office and the volunteer fire department, which have had a lasting impact on society.

Join us while we gather to discuss the 13 virtues in the context of the present day. We’ll meet weekly for 13 weeks and commit to making better and more conscious choices about our own behavior and work with others to spread those virtues through acts of kindness and good deeds. There is no cost and it is open to all!

Taoist Tai Chi® grew out of this tradition and is a way to develop a body that is strong, yet supple, balanced and energetic, a mind that is calm and clear, yet creative and dynamic, and a spirit that is light and peaceful, yet resilient. Taoist Tai Chi® exercises the whole physiology including muscular, skeletal, and circulatory systems, as well as tendons, joints, connective tissue and organs. Rather than depending on the development of hard muscle tissue, Tai Chi develops a body that is relaxed and strong at the deepest levels. The gentle internal movements are balanced throughout the body and have a calming effect on the mind. Taoist Tai Chi® is truly a moving meditation.

2019 Spring Rites Of Passage Adventure Weekend
Apr 4 @ 5:00 pm – Apr 7 @ 3:00 pm
Journeymen

Attention men: At what point in your life did you stop thinking of yourself as a boy and start to think of yourself as a man?

Was there a special, foundational, transformational experience—a hero’s journey perhaps—which ferried you from the world of being a youth into the world of an adult? Maybe it was a series of experiences which offered you the opportunity to take a new level of responsibility for yourself and others? Maybe a trial of some sort? A challenge through which your perseverance connected you with unique inner strengths and gifts that may never have otherwise discovered?

One way or another—people find ways to initiate ourselves into adulthood—or, alternately, life finds ways to initiate us.

Journeymen’s Rites Of Passage Adventure Weekend is an opportunity for teenage boys to initiate their journey into adulthood consciously within a strong community of men who are committed to their potential.

Enrollment is open for both adult staffers and initiates ages 14-17 for the Spring Rites Of Passage Adventure Weekend. Please get in touch for more information or to enroll or visit journeymenasheville.org/ropaw

What part of your potential will you unlock? What gifts do you have to share?

We look forward to embarking on an adventure with you this spring to find out.
