WNC Beer History book signing with Anne Fitten Glenn this Friday
Dec 14 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Ecusta Brewing Company

Meet author Anne Fitten Glenn this Friday (12/14) and get an autographed copy of her second book on local beer, Western North Carolina Beer: A Mountain Brew History. (featuring Homeplace and tons of other breweries past and present!). Book signing will take place from 5-7 pm.

“Western North Carolina has evolved from a mountainous frontier dotted with dry communities into an international destination for craft beer drinkers. Long-time beer writer Anne Fitten Glenn penned this as a companion volume to her first book, Asheville Beer, An Intoxicating History of Mountain Brewing. This new history of ales and lagers includes the tales of formerly dry towns and counties revising their post-Prohibition regulations to welcome breweries. She relates how those breweries attract community, jobs, tourists, and dollars, as well as mixed emotions, legal conundrums, and entrepreneurial challenges. Glenn traces the history of Western North Carolina beer from the wild days of saloons, bootleggers, and Asheville’s first breweries, through one of the longest Prohibitions in the nation, to the craft beer explosion of the 21st century.”

Award-winning author Anne Fitten has been writing about and working in the beer business since the 1990s. She pens a regular “Mountain Brews” article for Edible Asheville and has written for numerous other publications, including All About Beer, Smoky Mountain Living, WNC Magazine, Asheville Citizen-Times, and CraftBeer.com. Western North Carolinians may remember her “Edgy Mama” and “Brewgasm” columns, which ran for several years in Mountain Xpress.

Masks, signs, and outreach literature are provided. Black upper clothing appropriate for the weather is essential, and please bring a fully charged laptop or tablet if you have one. If you are bringing a laptop or a tablet, please download the following:

Purna Yoga Nidra
Dec 14 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Purna Yoga 828

PURNA YOGA NIDRA
with Letitia Walker
Friday, December 14th, 2018
6 pm – 8:30 pm • $50
Purna Yoga 828, 697 D Haywood Rd. in West Asheville

Register online at:
https://liveyoganow.com/purna-yoga-nidra/

Yoga Nidra is truly a magical experience. And that experience is truly varied depending on the style of Nidra you practice. For some, Yoga Nidra is simply a longer Shavasana. For others, Yoga Nidra involves a long Shavasana and a guided meditation with the intention to expand consciousness.

In Purna Yoga, our style of Yoga Nidra involves setting a sankalpa (an intention) around some kind of change, shift or growth, distilling the essence of that intention into a feeling, and then planting the seed of that shift in our subconscious. In this way, it is a method of communicating with the subconscious, opening the doorway to deeper intuition, and experiencing the five koshas (sheaths) of the body as one drops into a deep state of relaxation and pratyahara (sense withdrawal).

Join Letitia on December 14th – the first anniversary of the studio opening as well as the anniversary of B. K. S. Iyengar’s 100 birthday – as she guides you through Purna Yoga Nidra, using the method and techniques of this practice as taught by Aadil Palkhivala, the co-founder of Purna Yoga.

We will spend the first 30 minutes discussing the hows and whys of the Nidra, refining our sankalpa, and getting settled in position. Then, we will have a full two hours to settle in, drop the body, and set our intentions before coming out slowly, carefully, almost reluctantly to join what will feel like a whole new world.

Join us on this auspicious day for the first Yoga Nidra at Purna Yoga 828!

Authentic Asheville Games Night
Dec 14 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
The Purpose Collective

For various reasons, authentic connection is harder and harder to come by in modern life. We all know that socializing is good for us, but contrary to what we grow up believing, the kind of social contact that nourishes our brains and hearts isn’t the kind found at the average party. It’s not the kind that only talks about happy things or recounts recent accomplishments. It’s the kind that is cracked open, raw and vulnerable. It involves talking openly about the highs and lows, and all the wonderful and difficult feelings that are universal for all of us.

Join us for an evening of authentic relating and intentional connection. We’ll be playing games to practice saying what we mean to say, and listening deeply from the heart. Mindful communication is a practice, not a destination: we’re starting this group to be intentional about that practice and to to fill our Friday nights with play, laughter, growth, and connection.
