Groove on OM
Feb 7 @ 7:15 pm – 8:15 pm
Waynesville Bellydance at Raqs Beledi

My name is Amber and I’m the owner of Kleidoscope Yoga. I’m an instructor, artist, dancer, cat lover, coffee consumer and I’m over the moon to introduce you back (or to) Groove on OM!

For an hour once a week I’m offering you a safe space where you can honor yourself with no pressures, no expectations, no judgment, no worries – just a load of dancing FUN with some great gals!

It’s a safe space to be yourself. What we do here (even as silly as we may look or seem) stays here. And there’s no choreography so even if you feel like you can’t dance – just find what movements your body craves and GO FOR IT!

I encourage singing, bouncing, hootin’, hollerin’, shaking and whatever else strikes your fancy.

What I want is for Groove on OM to grow so more women like you and I have a place to PLAY, let loose, lift each other up and create some powerful magic together. So gather up your girlfriends, sisters, aunts or mothers and daughters (as long as they’re 18)!

This six-week session runs January 31st – March 7th. The drop-in price is $13 cash only please but you can save $18 if you purchase the entire 6-week session for only $60! It’s a great commitment to make time for yourself, with your girlfriends, to get exercise or blow off steam. To purchase the session, my safe paypal link is below. Of course, cash or checks are always accepted as well for the full session price.

If you want to try #GrooveonOM once for the drop in price and decide you love it – you can still purchase the rest of the weeks in the session as a bundle at $10 a class! Even if you join us in the 3rd week – you’ll still save some cashola!

If you’re like me, dancing feels like it brings a fresh perspective to life. It releases stagnant energy and makes space for new ideas. It’s MAGIC And DAMN if it doesn’t feel good!

Dancing has been a beautiful form of communication since the beginning of time and there IS something primal about letting your body just move to the music without a care in the world. I believe you just have to find that comfortable space to let that happen.

We will take a few moments to greet one another, set intentions and then get our groove on with all sorts of different types of music. There is no choreography, just the opportunity to let your body find it’s rhythm and flow no matter what that feels or looks like!

****Just a quick note. Please respect that there will be no drugs or alcohol permitted, you must be at least 18 years of age and what happens at Groove on OM stays at Groove on OM.***

Again, here is the pricing for you – $60 for 6 weeks beginning Thursday, January 31st or $13 cash to drop in.

Dress comfortably – or in costume – come dressed in a way that calls to you.

I can’t wait to see you there and by the way, if you have a tune that gets your booty shakin’ let me know! I’m always looking for music to add to the playlist.

Namaste ♥

A Bronx Tale
Feb 7 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Peace Center

Broadway’s hit crowd-pleaser takes you to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s – where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he’d love to be.

Bursting with high-energy dance numbers and original doo-wop tunes from Alan Menken, the songwriter of Beauty and the Beast, A Bronx Tale is an unforgettable story of loyalty and family.

Academy Award® winner Robert De Niro and Tony® winner Jerry Zaks direct this streetwise musical – based on Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri’s story – that The New York Times hails as “A Critics’ Pick! The kind of tale that makes you laugh and cry.”

LaMotte’s newest solo album, The Other Way Around, features musicians from every inhabited continent, and guest appearances from Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nicky Sanders and Graham Sharp of the Steep Canyon Rangers, and Tim O’Brien, among a large cast of musicians. It was released in September of 2016, and debuted at #8 on the Folk-DJ chart.

His music has been honored with numerous awards and artist grants, and has been featured on dozens of artist compilations. Other artists on that CD include Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann and Bruce Springsteen. Several independent films feature David’s music, and it has been heard on the Today Show and the Showtime television series This American Life.

Jeeves at Sea
Feb 7 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
North Carolina Stage Company

Set sail for laughter as Bertie Wooster revels in life aboard the Vanderley yacht. Bertie is the pampered guest of the lively Lady Stella (very fetching profile), accompanied, as always, by his peerless valet, Jeeves. If only Bertie’s pal Crumpet hadn’t assaulted a prince. In the blink of an eye, Bertie is masquerading as a romance novelist, Crumpet’s posing as his own long-lost twin, and a sinister foreign count is challenging Bertie to a duel. Will this madcap case of mistaken identities end in Bertie’s doom–or worse, his marriage? Have no fear; Jeeves will sort it all out.

Alien Music Club – Free Live Jazz
Feb 7 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria

Alien Music Club is essentially an on-going studio project conceived and produced by Jonathan Pearlman (JP) of Asheville, NC.

JP grew up hearing light jazz and pop music. His first musical icons were Elvis Presley and Bobby Darin. He was performing for audiences at age seven. He began playing guitar at age nine. JP’s influences are far-reaching, absorbing Lennon/McCartney, Hendrix, Clapton, and Motown, during the 60’s. Jazz-fusion bands of the early 70’s were also influential, like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report and Frank Zappa. These became JP’s earliest jazz-rock influences. Other influences include Tom waits, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Donald Fagan, Ian Hunter, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Beck, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Charles Mingus, Paul Simon, Todd Rungren and Joe Walsh.

JP was continually writing, singing and playing in bands throughout his college years, and he graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Broadcasting in 1978. Fast forward the next 20 years or so, and he had become a successful videographer and producer, all the while pursuing his music. During the 1990’s, JP adopted the pseudonym “Alien Music Club”. The idea of a club came from the desire to incorporate the talents of other musicians and friends in the creative process. The “Alien” concept comes from the wildly eclectic nature of JP’s music, which defies categorization. “It’s really a musical melting pot,” says JP.

Lespecial at The One Stop
Feb 7 @ 10:00 pm – Feb 8 @ 2:00 am
The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall

Genre: Heavy future groove, progressive rock, death-funk, apocalyptic dub
Cover: Donations @ Door
Show: 10PM
Ages: 21+

lespecial

lespecial carve their own sonic path in modern music with their signature blend of “heavy future groove”. The power trio’s fresh synthesis of varied and divergent influences doesn’t underestimate the listener, reflecting a cultural climate in which fans have space on their aural palette for J Dilla, Radiohead, King Crimson and Fela Kuti. Veering from hip-hop to metal, prog to house, indie-rock to apocalyptic dub, leaving room for head banging and hip swaying alike, while still presenting a unified sound and vision.

“…[lespecial’s] sound owes as much to Radiohead and The Mars Voltas it does
Medeski Martin & Wood and Umphrey’s McGee. – Relix

“That lespecial shit is crazy.” — Akil the MC (Jurassic 5)

“Trap-metal.” — Nikki Glaspie (Beyonce / Nth Power)

“One of the best bands I’ve ever seen live.” — Ott

“My favorite band.” — Space Jesus

These three childhood friends from Connecticut play off of a lifetime of shared experience in their writing and performance. In a power trio, it’s essential that each of the players can utterly captivate you at any given time. Each individual has a lot of weight to carry and is only as strong as the weakest link. In the studio, as on stage, it seems at first blush that Jon Grusauskas—delivering lyrics that call for your attention and seamlessly moving from guitar to keys to samples—is handling the entire upper end of the spectrum… until you consider how broad the melodic embrace of rhythmatist Rory Dolan and low end wizard Luke Bemand: injecting splashes of color and wicked chops into their heavy groove foundations or driving assaults, this dynamic battery simultaneously eases and propels lespecial through fractious changes of mood and tempo. Additionally, whether at the forefront or scattered throughout the mix, all of them use live looping or triggered samples that contribute to a sound that is far greater than that generally created by three people, as they seek to tap into a primitive past, distorted through the lens of contemporary technology.

The band’s fearless pursuit of a synthesis of the musical idioms that inspire them has, thus far, culminated with the release of their second album, cheen, on October 31, 2017. Pole vaulting over traditional genres, cheen is a snapshot of a band flexing their remarkable creative muscles. In a traditional sense, cheen is a risky album: it asks the listener to suspend a categorical approach and dig into their own eclectic unconsciousness, to adapt a phrase, and appreciate the flow of the record from start to finish, as it moves guided by an unseen plan. If there is an underlying thematic structure, it is one that is anchored—musically and lyrically—by horror flicks, 1980s video games and lespecial’s indictment of the current cultural state of affairs. Not overtly political, angry or morose, cheen seems to observe the zeitgeist and respond to it. lespecial’s willingness to take this risk of presenting an album full of flavors and feels is a reflection of the respect they have for their fans, present and future: they simply don’t underestimate the listener, and that itself is refreshing.

Never willing to sit back and settle into a groove, lespecial pivoted quickly from touring in support of the release of cheen into a whole new format: collaborating with and supporting the iconic Bay Area hip-hop emcee and producer, Zion I, on tour dates and a forthcoming album. There are also plans to release remixes of cheen tracks from some of their producer friends who hold lespecial in the highest esteem.

Rather than use plastic spoons and forks for the demonstrations and sampling, Bounty & Sould are finding ways to be more green and sustainable, and we want to help.
We are aiming to collect 80 sets of metal or durable bamboo small spoons and forks through the month of February. Please bring washed used or new silverware to our store and enjoy our thanks and a browse and a cup of fair trade coffee.
