The Mattson 2
The Identical twin’s deep telepathic kinship navigates colourful forms of beautiful weirdness and exotic landscapes of layered improvisation, transcending the concept of modern musical performance. The duo shimmers and shakes with the soaring modern wizardry of Jared Mattson’s untamed, layered guitars and Jonathan’s tribal jazz hard-bop drumming – a marvel of jazz-rock orchestration and arrangement. In April 2017, Chaz Bundick Meets Mattson 2 album “Star Stuff” found itself at #1 on contemporary jazz Billboard Charts. The brothers Mattson paid tribute to Japanese legends like Shintaro & Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Haruomi Hosono on their Spring 2018 release “Vaults of Eternity” (via Carpark).“Mattson 2 Plays A Love Supreme,” (Spiritual Pajamas, 2018) is a future jazz mini symphony that shines a light into a hallway of mirrors to cast eternal reflections directly back onto the ideas and purpose of Coltrane himself, whilst challenging the very boundaries of jazz and modern pop.

Tall Tall Trees
The man behind Tall Tall Trees is Mike Savino, a pioneer in the the world of experimental and psychedelic banjo music. If you’ve seen Kishi Bashi live over the last several years, chances are you’ve already seen this insane banjo virtuoso playing in K’s band, and perhaps opening the show. Often performing solo, Savino’s modern take on the one-man band involves running his homemade instrument, dubbed the “Banjotron 5000” through a slab of effects and loopers, bowing, drumming, and strumming out multi-textured arrangements to support his lyrically driven songs.

A new temporary exhibit titled “Dressing for the Occasion: Mid-Century Sandburg as Celebrity and Family Man” opens on May 13, 2019. The exhibit, which runs through October, is part of the Sandburg Home tour and features clothing and accessories from both the park’s permanent collection and loaned items from the Sandburg family.
“Dressing for the Occasion” offers visitors a window into the style, culture, and feel of mid-century America. The family’s clothing and accessories weave together the roles of Carl Sandburg as a prominent writer, celebrity, father, and husband. This temporary exhibit offers an exciting opportunity for the public to view objects that are normally in storage or in the possession of Sandburg family members. Tours of the Sandburg Home are offered daily from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Tickets are available first come, first served, each day from the visitor information area in the ground level of the Sandburg Home.
Nearly every room in the historically furnished house museum will be included in the exhibit. Visitors will see the characteristic scarves Carl Sandburg wore as he played his guitar and sang folk songs to entertain his family and guests, the dress Lilian Sandburg wore to meet President Lyndon B. Johnson, and many other mid-century pieces worn by the Sandburgs and their daughters. Historic photographs, paired with the clothing, will provide context.

Looking for a fun and fulfilling way to make a difference in your community? Leading group tours as a docent is a rewarding way to share your love of art with students, children, families, and adults. Docents give tours to Museum visitors, primarily for school-aged and student groups but also for groups of all ages, from across the country and around the world.
The Education staff provides ongoing docent trainings, which include exclusive previews of new exhibitions and behind-the-scenes discussions with Museum curators, artists, scholars, and other special guests. Docents also have the opportunity to visit local artists’ studios and cultural attractions.
Docents provide an invaluable service in advancing the Museum’s role as a vibrant community center where residents and tourists explore the nature of creativity, learn from the past, and are inspired to consider the world in which they live. Many of our docents have expressed that volunteering at the Museum is one of their most gratifying experiences. Read more about our docent program.
Our next docent training class will begin in fall 2019. To learn more about the docent program, the docent training class, the Museum and its Collection, plans for our grand reopening, and to meet Museum staff and current docents, please join us for one of our upcoming information sessions.

Presentation Topic: Zev Friedman: Permaculturist, Founder & Creative Director of Co-operative WNC – Regional Mutual Aid for a Regenerative Future
Description: Zev Friedman says, “Co-operate WNC’s mission is to be a regional mutual aid initiative that uses co-operative economic tools to support a network of physical community centers which provide human services and act as organizing hubs for climate resilience.”
He believes, “This kind of work is a major missing ingredient in much of the transition movement: a formalized co-operative funding community that withdraws our financial support from the mainstream banking system and instead pools it at a large enough scale to support major transformational ecological and social projects. Overall, this is an organizing strategy for regional scale permaculture.”
The new initiative, just launched in February of this year, was featured in the April 28th edition of the Mt. Express https://mountainx.com/news/co-operate-wnc-promotes-regional-resilience/ The article is a good read and explains in detail what the group says on its Facebook page: “Collaboration around a credit union and healthcare co-op to take care of people, take back our political system and grow a healthy regional human ecology.” https://www.facebook.com/Gadugi13/
Come meet Zev and learn more about this exciting organization that is has unique solutions to our 21st Century challenges.
