Tanglewood Summer has long been a successful and inspirational part of children’s creative education in Western North Carolina. Our theatre camp has been extremely popular and is well-suited for any young person interested in exploring the exciting world of theatre. Our faculty represents some of the finest talent in the area, and we are thrilled to have them at Tanglewood Summer.
We have something for every kid this summer – whether it’s your first or one-hundred-and-first time trying theatre, Tanglewood Summer is the place for YOU!
Dads, Moms, Grandparents, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Siblings of all ages are invited to participate in this family theatre camp style production! There are roles for kids, teenagers and adults of all ages. Current, past, and new Playground Stage Families are invited to join!

Modelface Comedy brings you the best comedians from all over the country. This week we have Mary Mack with Tim Harmston for a special pre-Valentine’s Day show!!
A hybrid of Minnesota and Wisconsin (with a severe cheese dependency), comedian Mary Mack is a favorite on radio shows and podcasts around the country including, Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, The Bob and Tom Show, and The Grand Ole Opry. Currently, she stars as Jesse in the Hulu cartoon Solar Opposites by the creators of Rick and Morty. Other television credits include TBS’ Conan, Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Last Call with Carson Daly, and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. She’s appeared in Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival, HBO’s Andy Kaufman Awards, San Francisco’s Sketchfest, and the Dry Bar comedy series. When not touring, Mary spends way too much time and money working on her vintage camper in the woods of Northern Wisconsin. Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping—a polyrhythmic, percussive dance form that uses the body as an instrument. Under Mr. Williams’ leadership, stepping has evolved into one of America’s cultural exports, touring more than 50 countries across the globe. Step Afrika! is one of the top 10 African American dance companies in the world. Step Afrika! promotes stepping as a contemporary dance genre through critically acclaimed performances and arts education programs. Creatively engaging audiences in this nascent art form, the Company creates full-length productions that expand on stepping’s unique American history.
Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities; traditional West and Southern African dances; and an array of contemporary dance and art forms into a cohesive, compelling artistic experience. Performances are much more than dance shows; they integrate songs, storytelling, humor, and audience participation. The blend of technique, agility, and pure energy makes each performance unique and leaves the audience with their hearts pounding.
The Company reaches tens of thousands of Americans each year through a 50-city tour of colleges and theatres and performs globally as Washington, DC’s one and only Cultural Ambassador. Critically Acclaimed works, such as The Migration: Reflections on Jacob Lawrence and Drumfolk, tour major U.S. cities. Step Afrika! is prominently featured at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture with an interactive exhibit on the art form of stepping.

Modelface Comedy brings you the best comedians from all over the country. This week we have Gabbie Watts from Atlanta!
Gabbie Watts is a stand-up comic based in Atlanta, GA. She’s a regular at the Laughing Skull Lounge and has brought her aggressive monotone and wry charm to Lookout Comedy Festival, Red Clay Comedy Festival, West End Comedy Fest, Flyover Comedy Festival, and Fountain City Comedy Festival. She was the winner of the 2023 “Queer of the Year” competition at the P3 Comedy Fest. Also a history buff, Gabbie hosts iHeart podcast American Filth, where she tells a filthy story from American history every week through a bisexual revisionist lens. Her comedy songs are beloved by hordes of mentally ill adults on TikTok.

From Afros to braids, weddings, and funerals, falling in love to grieving a loss, these stories serve as a powerful reminder that for Black women in particular, hair is both deeply personal and political. These heartbreaking, heartwarming, and hilarious stories will take audiences on an unparalleled journey into the world of Black womanhood.

FreddyG is standup up comic from NYC. His joke and sketch videos have over 40 million views on Instagram, Facebook,and Tiktok.
