Lyrically focused, musically simple. Original songs from a Black Mountain native. In a genre with blurry boundaries, Hunter reaches from one end of Singer/songwriter-Americana to the other. Maybe country, maybe folk. Who cares. It’s about the words.

Rachel Price has come a long way from her hometown of O’Neill, Nebraska to pursue her dream, moving to Nashville three years ago and working hard to hone her craft. Now, the talented Price continues this journey in 2018, finishing a three month stint opening for The Wind and The Wave #HUMAN BEINGS TOUR 2018 (along with Haley Johnsen and Jesse Ruben) and releasing a new single “Sunshine & Rainbows,” the first from her forthcoming EP set for release in 2018.
2017 was quite a year for Price. She released her debut EP HOME, toured and launched a campaign to help Victims of Hurricane Harvey, sold HOME T-Shirts (Home, being the name of her recently released EP) and donated proceeds to REBUILDTX.ORG to benefit victims in cities along the Gulf Coast. She also performed on her own unique U.S. tour, visiting and donating partial proceeds from her shows to Animal Shelters in all tour markets and has spent time in the studio recording a new EP for a Spring release.
Price acquired her first guitar when she was 11, and started recording pop, rock and R&B covers, posting them online. When she headed off to college, her plan was to become a veterinarian. She kept posting songs though, and her music caught the attention of two producers in Los Angeles. “We wrote songs over Skype, and then I went to L.A. and we recorded four of them in the studio,” says Price. “It was an amazing experience.”
One of those songs was “Little Nebraska Town,” Price’s ode to the communal excitement of hometown Friday night football games. A former teacher of Price’s introduced her to internationally renowned photographer and Nebraskan Bill Frakes, who was working with the Nebraska Tourism Commission on content for The Nebraska Project, an initiative and website celebrating the people, places and stories that are the essence of the state.
“A video was created for my song, which was used to spotlight the culture of football in Nebraska,” says Price. “It got more than a million views. Having so many people relate to something I wrote sparked my interest in making music for the rest of my life.”
Price took a break from school, and with the support of her parents, moved to Nashville in 2014 so that she could be in an environment surrounded by the music industry. “There is so much energy and so many people to feed off of creatively here,” she says. “It forces me to be really uncomfortable on a daily basis – in a good way. In new situations, I’m learning how to adapt. And writing music here is an everyday thing. I love it.”
In 2016, she connected with Australian-born, Nashville-based producer, composer, and musician Michael Flanders. She co-wrote four of the six songs on her first EP with Michael’s wife Chaise – a noted songwriter herself – and son Ben. The title track “Home” was wholly Price’s, and “Falling Off The Earth” is a collaboration with singer-songwriter Luke Wade.
Outside of music, Price continues taking courses toward her college degree. She’s switched majors and is now focused on interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis on business. She’s an avid dog sitter and walker, an avocation that both gives her the animal lover fix she needs, and serves as a reliable “day job” – that is, until she fulfills her dream of “making a living just making music.” Rachel will release her new EP in 2018.
Soleil LeBlanc is a WNC local singer-songwriter, who has been writing and performing original music for over seven years. Soleil’s sound is a unique mix of soul and folk. Music from the soul for the soul.

“Moving deftly between complex dexterity and heart-tugging familiarity, Rose achieves a sound that pushes gently alongside the bright vocal experimentalism of Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom while maintaining the brassy attitude and simple refrains that run straight through American roots music from mountain ballads to rock n roll.” (Free)http://www.alexarosemusic.com

Cycles
Wicked Weed Funkatorium
Asheville, NC
FREE SHOW!
Ages: 21+
CYCLES:
Cycles epitomize the power-trio format with ripping guitar, fat bass grooves played out through furious slapping, and dynamic drum beats flowing over intricate tempo changes. Each member wields a unique take on their instrument that when played together, forms a truly fresh and cohesive sound. Patrick Harvey commands the guitar with speed and precision reminiscent of Jimmy Herring while using his loop pedal virtually as its own instrument, a skill unique only to him. Michael Wood has subtly forged a drum style that showcases his rare ability to mashup funky hip-hop beats with frenzied rock riffs and only displays flashy chops when necessary. At the heart of the band lies Tucker McClung’s dominant slap-bass chops that captivate audiences while pumping the musical blood through the band.
Drawing influence from artists such as Rage Against the Machine, J. Dilla, Primus, Weather Report, and many more, Cycles fuses an eclectic blend of genres to produce an original sound that has become harder and harder to find. Although only two years old, Cycles have over 200 shows under their belt with tours extending across the entire U.S.

Bio:
Matt Walsh is a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Statesville NC who performs solo or with his backup band around 200 shows a year throughout the southeast and beyond. His sound is influenced by anyone from Link Wray, Howlin’ Wolf, Prince, Black Sabbath or Pete Rock among many other musicians and styles of music. His primary focus is making original music and mixing his roots with new ideas rather than replicating them. The result reflects an exciting blend of many genres of music – early electric and hill country Blues, Rock, Rockabilly, Soul, Country, Garage Rock, Hip-Hop and Psychedelia among others. His exposure to music came first came from his mother through her love of Motown. In his youth, he was fascinated with various types of music and was always anxious when he heard a sound that was different or foreign to his ear. When he was 9 his mother took him to a Prince concert and Matt knew he wanted to be a musician.

From the heart of Mali’s Niger Delta, in his teenage years Kelly ventured to Niafunke seeking to study music with the legendary master, Ali Farka Toure. Over the past 30 years he has played beside Ali Farka Toure, accompanied Afel Bocoum as a key member of the band, Alkibar and performed with many great musicians. With an encyclopedic knowledge of Mali’s music, Kelly represents the link from great traditions to the new sophistication of Mali. Heading his own band for the past over 6 years, Kelly’s charm belies a determined professional. His song style is deceptively simple and yet subtly layered with meaning. A rich, historical awareness supports his composition and delivery, gently prodding his audiences with parables and life’s lessons learned.
What critics have said about his recent recordings and concerts:
• “At one level this is simple, quite lovely, rural-sounding music, but it is also layered and its complexity is only thinly disguised.” fROOTS #407
• “classy, at times gently hypnotic” Robin Denselow – Songlines #127
• “you’re released, flying without wings, infused with a sense of having momentarily left the planet” Dennis Rozanski, Blues Rag 2017
• “hypnotic desert blues” Bastiaan Springer, Lust for Life 2017
• “Profoundly moving music” Martin Sinnock, SONGLINES #112
• “A warm unaffected spontaneity” Mark Hudson, SONGLINES March 2014
• “Guitar lines roll so effortlessly and virtuosically that one nearly becomes immune to its brilliant elegance.” Ian Nagoski, WIRE 2014
• “The real roots of American blues and jazz” George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly
