Tell your friends, Bring your horses!- SHARE-Don’t have a horse..bring your fishing pole and enjoy the big creek that runs through the property! There will be Horseshoes, Cornhole, Bluegrass music, food and marshmallows for roasting! Registration 10:00 – Lunch served 12:30-2:00. Charles Harriott will be hanging out here in Asheville for a week After a 9 month tour abroad teaching and traingin BJJ all over the world! He taught and trained in San Juan Puerto Rico, FL, GA, NC, Montana, Kona Hawaii, Osaka, Japan, Kaohsiung Taiwan, Hanoi Vietnam, Athens & Paros Greece, Mantova & Bibione Italy, Tel Aviv Israel, Utrech Netherlands, London England and we’re his first seminar back in the State. We are very fortunate to have him stopping in for a No-gi BJJ seminar! If you are currently training in BJJ you need to be here! He will be going over The Darce Choke and necktie variations.

Here’s a little info on the amazing Charles Harriot:

“Charles Harriott’s martial arts journey was sparked by the cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. With the support of his parents this lead to learning Tae Kwon Do and American Kenpo in childhood. Heavily focusing on both the performance and point sparring elements. At age 13 he showed an early passion for sharing what he knew and began instructing, coaching both demonstration and sparring teams. As he entered high school his dojo emphasized cross training in kick boxing, judo, and kali.
At 17 he left home to attend the University of Florida to pursue a degree in Physics. While there with the advice of his elder sister he joined the Hip Hop Collective and found a passion for breakdance. This time breakdancing would serve him well when he began Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The coodination, balance, dexderity, and creativity translated beautifully to Jiu Jitsu. In the coming years he would train in many disciplines (kung fu, ken jutsu, judo, muay thai), but Jiu Jitsu and breakdance would hold a special place.”

This outdoor workshop takes place at the historic Miller Farmstead atop beautiful Strawberry Mountian, located in Roan Mountain State Park. Ranger Phil Hylen will be introducing the must-knows of dutch oven cooking while serving up old timey reciepes perfect for the cool autumn season.

This week’s Dutch Oven recipe will be a classic: Country-style chicken and dumplings with an autumn salad on the side. The meal ingredients are listed below, so be sure to check for any possible allergies before registering. This program is limited to 8 people and costs $10.00 per participant. Homeward Bound’s REACH Fund has collaborated with Josh Blake and Salvage Station to bring you a stellar line-up of some of Asheville’s best musicians to raise funds to eliminate chronic homelessness in Western North Carolina. Josh Blake started Harmony for the Homeless in 2017 and has graciously agreed to partner with REACH Fund to bring you this annual event, now named Harmonies for Homes.

The event is free to the public, but a $20 suggested donation at the door is welcomed. Bring the kids for a fun early day out! Sorry, pets are not allowed at Salvage Station.

Music will begin at noon and continue thru 5pm on the indoor stage at Salvage Station, rain or shine. Many of your favorite Asheville vendors will be present in the courtyard and have agreed to donate a percentage of their profits to the REACH Fund for that day. Visitors to Grovewood Village will have the opportunity to learn the story of Biltmore Industries on a guided history tour, offered Wednesday – Saturday at 1pm during April – November. The tour includes a visit to Biltmore Industries’ production facility (aka Dye House), where guests can peek into the past and view the original looms, carding machines, spinning mule and dye vats used to make the famed Biltmore Handwoven Homespun.

The tours last approximately 45 minutes and operate on a first-come, first-served basis, open to 25 people. There is no charge to take the tour, but donations are appreciated. Tours begin at the Homespun Museum in Grovewood Village, where a docent will give a detailed overview of Biltmore Industries’ historic importance before leading guests into the 100-year-old Dye House (usually closed to the public).

Private group tours are also offered for a fee and should be scheduled at least one week in advance.
