JAMES DURBIN is a Singer, Songwriter & Artist from Santa Cruz, California now residing in Nashville, TN. He finished in 4th place on Season 10 of American Idol. Since 2017 Durbin has held the place as Lead Singer of ’80’s Heavy Metal band QUIET RIOT. Living and working with high-functioning Autism as well as Tourette Syndrome, Durbin is an advocate & role model for individuals living & working with disabilities themselves. James continues his outreach having worked with organizations such as WWE, Autism Society of America, Autism Speaks, Autism Works Now, Tourette Syndrome Association, CARD-USF & Temple Grandin, PhD. “Just because I was diagnosed with ‘disabilities, that doesn’t disable me from living my dreams.” -James Durbin

Stay up late for science! Experience the Arboretum after dark as we celebrate our nocturnal neighbors in honor of the Arboretum’s In the Dark exhibit. Learn how to use a special “bat detector” to hear and identify the high-frequency sounds that bats emit while they echolocate their prey. See how black lights can attract moths and other nocturnal insects.
This event is open to both children and adults. At 9:00 p.m., adults are invited to attend a special presentation and learn how to create a “mothing” set-up, as well as the general taxonomy of moths and other nocturnal insects before heading outside to view these organisms.
Attendance is free, however, online registration is required and standard non-member parking fees apply. A suggested five-dollar per person donation is welcomed and will help support The North Carolina Arboretum Society. Children must be accompanied by an adult during all activities.
Participants in the Arboretum’s ecoEXPLORE program will earn five bonus points for attending this event.

Currently out of Asheville, NC, Supatight delivers a high energy live performance that is funk driven and appeals to a wide variety of audiences. While specializing in hard-hitting funk, their music incorporates elements of jazz fusion, soul, reggae, and comedic country. Supatight blends intricately timed grooves with improvisational components resulting in an authentic, full sound, drawing diverse styles from every member of the band.
Supatight has been touring the southeast for the past 6 years, developing a loyal fanbase a long the way; always striving to make their concerts a high energy-interactive-dance party. Having recently added two new members, Kent Spillman on the drums and Joshua “Bizkit” Upchurch on percussion; has brought a new life and energy to their composition and live performances.
