Let’s discuss how we came to live competitively and fearfully, then we’ll watch a free movie, then we’ll discuss self-empowerment strategies.
“No tree, it is said, can grow to Heaven unless its roots reach down to Hell.” -C.G. Jung
In a world where most relationships are framed as struggles for power, we inherently fear losing the competition and living impoverished. The fight for survival forces us into this competition and the modern world seems enslaved by it. Even those in power have to constantly fight to stay there. How do we transition to a partnership model?
The transition is made smoother during these discussions. When we come to understand the symbolic quote by Carl Jung, the picture becomes much clearer.
I invite you to finish dinner early and come join the discussion!

STORIES INSPIRED BY THE WOMEN WHO CAME FORWARD
An evening of humor and hurt, courage, anger and honesty
Eight short plays — including two musicals!
All proceeds to benefit OurVOICE
“RAUCOUS! An act of vehement feminist protest…. Mr. Trump has denied their accounts. But these plays — even the funniest of them — vibrate with fury and disgust, and they’re poised to go wide.”
— New York Times
“The play itself was terrific. Each of its eight acts honored a victim and her story (one act actually honored the victims who haven’t yet spoken). Some were disturbing, some were hilarious, most were both. ”
— New York Magazine

Saturday, May 18 at Hot Yoga Asheville
6:30-8:30 pm
Join us for an enchanting yin yoga practice led by Stacy Fiano, accompanied by the talented Mikaya Swabb playing the gong and singing bowls.
Yin Yoga uses long holds and stretches done on the floor to lengthen the deep connective tissues between the muscles and the fascia throughout the body. It helps to increase circulation in the joints and improve joint flexibility. The simplicity of a yin practice allows us to return to our bodies in a calming way that allows us to gaze inward.
The use of ancient sound healing instruments like the gong and Tibetan singing bowls allows the body and mind to relax more deeply. The gong played in a series of crescendos is effective in breaking through energy blockages and stress in the parasympathetic nervous system. The soft sound of the singing bowls allow the mind to travel more deeply into stillness. The complementary effects of these two sound frequencies allows the natural flow of our energy to move more freely.
Cost is $30 for one / $50 for a couple

Zydeco Dance Party with Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas
Show: 7:30pm
Doors: 6:30pm
$18 – $20
Ages 18+
Tickets & Info: www.theorangepeel.net/event/zydeco-dance-party-with-nathan-the-zydeco-cha-chas/
Nathan Williams plays Zydeco, the fast and furious accordion-driven dance music of the Creole people of South Louisiana, a relatively modern style that emerged after the Second World War. With its trademark rubboard percussion, electric guitars and R&B Influences, Zydeco is distinct from the fiddle-driven music of neighboring Cajuns. Zydeco is now a familiar sound to many, heard in commercials for mainstream companies such as Burger King and Toyota, and there are pockets of devoted Zydeco dancers throughout the world. Yet, after Its flush of national popularity in the late 1980s, which saw soaring sales of both Zydeco and Cajun CDs, Zydeco has in many ways faded from popular consciousness, retreating to the South Louisiana dance halls and festival gigs that sustained it all along.
If Zydeco was a one-trick pony, that might be well and good. However, in the hands of a dedicated musician and songwriter such as Nathan Williams, Zydeco is one of the most expressive sounds in roots music. Nathan’s down-home parables are delivered with surprising musical turns and a distinctive Caribbean tilt that reaches back to the very beginnings of Creole culture in Louisiana.
Growing up in a Creole-speaking home in St. Martinville, Nathan eagerly sought out the music of Zydeco originators such as Clifton Chenier. When he was too young to actually attend a Clifton Chenier dance at a St. Martinville club, he hovered by the window-sized fan at the back of the building to hear his idol, only to have the bill of his baseball cap clipped off by the fan when he leaned too close. Later, while recovering from a serious illness, Nathan decided to dedicate himself to learning the accordion. That dedication blossomed into an illustrious career, encompassing seven albums and spanning close to two decades.
The music of Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas is the expression of a remarkable South Louisiana family. Dennis Paul Williams. Nathan’s brother, brings his jazz-influenced guitar chops to the band. He’s also a well-Known painter whose work has been shown throughout the country, and who contributed the cover and tray card paintings for their new album, Hang It High, Hang It Low. Keyboardist Nathan Williams Jr. is enrolled in the music program at the University of South Louisiana. while he leads his own band in the Lafayette area. Rubboard player Mark Williams is a cousin who has been with the band since its inception. Manager Sid ‘El Sid O’ Williams, the eldest Williams brother, is an entrepreneur who has built a remarkable network. of businesses in Lafayette. while honing his skills as an accordion contender himself.
Rounding out the Cha Chas is the exceptional rhythm section of bassist Paul Newman and drummer Herman ‘Rat’ Brown, who held the drum chair with Buckwheat Zydeco for many years.
In the world of contemporary African-American music, roots styles are easily categorized as old music, good for sampling maybe, but not music that relates to the lives of mainstream American people. Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas might make us think twice about this assumption, for here is uplifting, new music that remains connected to its place in history. If you haven’t heard what’s happening in Zydeco lately, here’s your chance!

It’s been nearly a decade since Dawes first emerged from Southern California, carrying with them a roots-rock sound that nodded to the past – including the West Coast folksingers and cosmic country-rockers who chased a similar muse during the 1970s – while still pushing forward.
Over the years that followed their debut, the band evolved and electrified. The grooves deepened. The amplifiers grew louder. Once known for their honest approach to classic sounds, Dawes grew into something different: a forward-thinking, boundary-pushing band for the 21st century, willing to follow inspiration wherever it leads. On the group’s sixth album, Passwords, that inspiration pulls guitarist/singer Taylor Goldsmith, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, bassist Wylie Gelber, and keyboardist Lee Pardini into their most universal, topical territory to date.
