Government spends money on the things that we value collectively, like safety and roads. It decides every year the prioritization of issues to address and services to provide.

Are you already working with a group that’s working to make specific change? For example childcare, housing, education, justice system, community health.

The government budgeting process is where the rubber hits the road and is one of the most important processes for change in our community. During the budgeting process, government allocates money to these issues, as well as specific projects.

What if you feel your values aren’t heard?

If you want to the government to address issues or make change, the budgeting process is where you should speak the loudest.

How do you do it?

Find out how you can participate in the city and county (and even state and federal) budgeting process through an interactive workshop. You will learn content of budgets, the timeline and processes for approval, and the best ways to advocate for change.

Raja Yoga in Sanskrit is known as Royal Yoga because it is the classic yoga path to attaining the state of union with our true nature which is Light or Divine, through body-mind-spirit systematic approach. The class offers gentle opening movements to awaken and loosen tension and stress in the body, postures (Asanas), breathwork (Pranayama), and Meditation (Dhyana.) This is a great class for beginners and all levels as there are offerings to deepen into your own level of practice (Sadhana.) There will be a deep relaxation period at end of movement (Yoga Nidra) which allows the body, mind, and spirit to digest and integrate the yogic experience. Being a devoted practitioner of Yoga, Light, and the Healing Arts, Danielle may offer wisdom from the great Saints and Sages of all traditions and opportunities to chant Universal sacred sounds (mantras.)

Bio
Danielle is a deeply devoted Bhakti yogi and Mystic who is in love with the Divine and the Divine’s expression through and as her very Self. Each moment is an opportunity to listen and Be in the Silence; that sweet place where Truth, Consciousness, Joy, Peace, and the Grace of God exist. She humbly bows to these moments as they offer great wisdom and medicine in supporting the awakening of our True Self. As Swami Vivekananda said, “Each soul is potentially Divine.” She walks and lives in the Light of this Truth. Her greatest calling and desire is to support others in remembering their true identity and to help end suffering in ourselves and in the world.

As a result of a motor vehicle accident in 1994, she became keenly aware of the importance of internal balance and harmony. It was through the healing arts of massage, and body-mind awareness practices such as yoga, tai chi, and qigong that began her life-long spiritual journey of waking up. In 1998, she received her license in Massage Therapy and continues to offer services at her private practice in downtown Asheville. In 2000, she was certified as a yoga instructor through Frog Pond Yoga in Massachusetts and Swami Vivekananda Yoga Ashram in Bangalore, India, as well as being graced to sit at the feet of her Guru, Dr. VS Rao for over 9 years before he took MahaSamadhi (left his body].

Danielle’s intention as a teacher is to support and allow what is showing up in our body, mind, and experience personally and collectively, and to honor the process of transformation as it occurs occur naturally rather than attempting to force a result. She has adopted her Guru’s teaching style – the ancient tradition of Raja yoga – simple yoga class structured with gentle opening movements, yogic breath and postures, and meditation fit for beginners and all levels. In addition, her classes are imbued with the Sacred through Pure Knowledge (wisdom and teachings of Saints and Sages of ALL traditions), prayers/chants to invoke Light and Love within.

Fall in love with glassblowing! This introductory 8-week class is for someone who is ready to lay the foundations for what it takes to be a glassblower. We will start at the top; learn to gather molten glass from the furnace and how to shape it into basic clear forms that include paperweights, solid sculptures, bubbles and eventually drinking tumblers and small vessels.

This course will focus on the important fundamentals of studio safety, the proper use of tools, and working in teams to create blown glass objects. Color application will be covered towards the end of the session to demonstrate the possibilities of surface design. This class is designed for those who are new to the medium or have limited experience in glass and are seeking to build a solid set of skills in the art of glassblowing.

The class costs $645, materials included, and is every week on Wednesday from 6-9 for eight consecutive weeks.

Tom Kirschbaum has been with us, helping grow the Asheville Guitar Bar, since we were doing Thursday Jams at our Paintbox Studio. He is a truly gifted musician, and well loved for his generosity, his friendship, and his ”Almost Famous Chili and Slaw”!

Food and drink specials begin at 6:00pm. At 6:30, Tom sets the stage, sharing his love of singing and playing his signature 12 string. He hosts many of his local musicians friends who share their own music for an Asheville Music Show not to be missed.

Jax Spencer is a self-taught pole dancer with 11+ years experience on the pole and is the owner of The Pole Academy in Greenville, South Carolina. Bowled Over: How to Create Visual Interest on Simple Forms

Bowls are often overlooked by potters because they are such a simple form, but they have so much potential! In this intermediate level class, we will explore bowls of all sizes and shapes on the potter’s wheel to create forms that reflect your unique style. We will also discuss and practice surface design through mishima (slip inlay), painting, and sgraffito carving. By the end of the session we will have made pieces that are not only visually interesting, but accurately represent your personal style and sensibilities.

Level: Intermediate and Advanced

Majo Affirmative Poetry series is poetry that focuses on a person or a relationship rather than on nature, politics, etc. It also is improvisational – made up on the spot.

Majo will be teaching you ten keys for this kind of poetry, which will make it much more concrete – and help you to really know and understand what you are doing. “Ten keys for improvisational poetry – and for life. Learn them in one class – practice them for life.”
