Project Drawdown Workshop Series
Feb 16 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Collider

Drawdown is that point in time when the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere begins to decline on a year-to-year basis. Project Drawdown is the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming.

Drawdown is based on meticulous research that maps, measures, models, and describes the most substantive solutions to global warming that already exist. It is the most important goal for humanity to strive for at this time.

The four-session series was created by Pachamama Alliance and Paul Hawken – the Drawdown Project lead scientist. This is the first time this series has been offered in Asheville.

This series is designed for individuals and groups who are ready to identify personal and family solutions that are within reach and/or have an interest in working with community organizations and the City of Asheville to implement climate solutions and policies.

Katherine Wilkerson, VP of Communications and Engagement at the national Drawdown Project, will be in Asheville delivering a lecture at The Collider’s Climate City Expo in April 2019. The Collider is generously offering free tickets to this event ($35 value) to anyone who participates in this four-session series.

Partial and full scholarships are available from Community Roots. Please message us if you are unable to purchase a ticket – no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Assembly Required Asheville Designer Toy Expo
Feb 16 @ 11:00 am – Feb 17 @ 4:00 pm
Highland Brewing Company

Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy collectors and admirers, *Assembly Required is Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo.

Bringing together art toy, bootleg and designer toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work, *Assembly Required is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum.

Focusing on the artistic movement of designer toys, this melting pot of artistic expression pulls inspiration from a variety of cultural elements. Everything from politics to comic books, science fiction, tattooing, street art, movies and everything related to toys &/or pop culture of the 60’s through the 90’s.

Sometimes misleading, the term ‘toy’ is a misnomer. Even though production methods of this lowbrow pop art echo traditional toy manufacturers, these collectibles are mostly intended for display, rather than to be played with.

Arguably one of the most popular forms that will be honored at the expo are called ‘bootleg action figures”. Recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).

Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.
