The Bearded Dragons Inn hosts their weekly West Marches game. This is a drop in game for all to join. If you have never played before come and join us. Our amazing community will teach you all you need to know. If you have years, or even decades of experience stop on by as well as you’ll experience a whole new style of play. Hubby Jenkins (the Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Rhiannon Giddens Band) is a talented multi-instrumentalist who endeavors to share his love and knowledge of old-time American music. Hubby performs on guitar and banjo showcasing the history of the banjo as an African-American blues instrument that became a big part of minstrel music and later appropriated for bluegrass and country music genres.

From Thursday, May 2nd until Saturday, June 22nd, Momentum Gallery hosts a two-person, mixed media exhibition called Dissolution. The collection features individually created and collaborative works by two artists, Seth Clark and Jason Forck. Original collages mounted to panels play off architectonic sculptures in glass and wood culminating in a cohesive body of work that explores the notion of deteriorating architecture. This event is free and open to the public.

Wildflowers springing from the ground are a sign that spring and warmer weather are right around the corner. Capture photos of your family and friends enjoying the Park and enter them into our Shades of Spring Photo Contest for a chance to win fabulous prizes. We’ll use the winning entries on our website and Facebook album, and you’ll win some fun prizes. Photos must be taken within the Chimney Rock section of the Park.

An exhibition of youth art titled “Let a Joy Keep You,” is on display from April 1 to May 31, 2019. The inspiration for the art comes from the first line of Carl Sandburg’s poem “Joy.” Each of the 70 canvases reflects how the young artists chose to interpret what joy means to them. Visitors can see the installation at the Sandburg Home when they visit. Young artists are represented from across the country and locally, including students from Sugarloaf Elementary School in Hendersonville, NC.

Founding father and master inventor Benjamin Franklin was also a pioneer of self-improvement. In 1727 Franklin formed the Junto, a weekly mutual-improvement club made up of a group of his peers and fellow Philadelphia tradesmen to discuss 13 core virtues and explore how to better incorporate them in their lives – and use them as a foundation for enriching the world. The club became the launching pad for all sorts of civic initiatives: the public library, the post office and the volunteer fire department, which have had a lasting impact on society.

Join us while we gather to discuss the 13 virtues in the context of the present day. We’ll meet weekly for 13 weeks and commit to making better and more conscious choices about our own behavior and work with others to spread those virtues through acts of kindness and good deeds. There is no cost and it is open to all!

AdventHealth Hendersonville’s commitment to whole-person care – mind, body and spirit – means we are committed to creating access to innovative, exceptional care through our direct clinical programs and through support of community partners.

The AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation is taking on the need for increased access to safe, effective behavior health care through its annual Experience Gala. The proceeds of this year’s Gala ticket sales will help fund a Behavioral Health pod in the AdventHealth Hendersonville Emergency Department.

The causes of mental health issues vary, but one group that is seeing particularly high rates is military veterans. Nearly 20 veterans commit suicide in the United States every day. The need to expand access to care for veterans and all members of our community experiencing behavioral health issues is why the AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation is inviting you to its annual gala, “Experience Heroes of the Red, White and Blue”. This year’s AdventHealth Foundation Gala will take place on Thursday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Signature Flight Support – Asheville Regional Airport.

This year’s military setting will be an elegant evening honoring our nation’s military heroes. The program will feature the presentation of the Dr. P.J. Moore, Jr. & Dr. Arthur A. Pearson Award of Excellence to Jeff Miller and Blue Ridge Honor Flight.

An honor wall will be displayed at the Gala to showcase Veterans. If you would like to support the Gala but can’t attend, consider paying tribute to a Veteran. For a $25 donation per Vet, your Veterans info will be posted on the honor wall. We would like to collect a photo (if possible), along with name, rank, branch, dates and place of service if known.

A chance drawing for a trip to Washington, D.C. is available. The winner receives two, round-trip coach airline tickets with departure from a nearby airport and a five-night, double occupancy stay in Washington. A single ticket purchase is $25 or five tickets may be purchased for $100 at AdventHealthGALA.com.

Relax and unwind at the Arboretum’s new “ArborEvenings” weekly after hours gathering. Live music will be played in the Heritage Garden the last Thursday of each month.

BODY POSITIVE is an exhibition of original pastel nudes by artist Alex Alford. The theme of the show has many meanings: celebration of diverse body types, rendering them without idealizing, bodies on the page without background detail, not abstracting the forms, and so forth. Works are for sale, and prints of each may be ordered online.

The show will be on display through the end of June at the Desoto Lounge in West Asheville, 504 Haywood Rd.
