Hosted by Morgan Bost. Morgan is an Asheville based comic capturing the playful and often painful parallels between adolescence and “almost-adulthood.” Vibrant yet vulnerable; her high-energy storytelling is influenced by her background as an improviser. She co-hosts a weekly comedy open mic called “The Hot Seat,” and writes a monthly humor column, “Best Medicine with Morgan Bost,” for the Mountain Xpress. She’s opened for Rob Delaney, Beth Stelling, and has appeared in several breweries and discount grocery stores across Western North Carolina.

Leaving Dublin, Ireland where he was born and raised until the age of 22, David got drunk on travel and never quite hit sobriety of it. He has lived and worked in twelve countries and visited over seventy. His shows draw on his wide travels, cultural observations, attempts at language study, (occasional)international drinking session(s) and being a mildly confused immigrant. David is the winner of the prestigious annual San Francisco Comedy Competition, (previous finalists include Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Dana Carvey) and runner up in the Moth’s largest US Grandslam storytelling competition. He recorded his debut special for Dry Bar Comedy in 2019 and has been featured onTED.com, Amazon Prime Video, The Irish Independent, Inc, Sirius XM, NPR, Ireland AM, and the Huffington Post among others. Appalachia on the Table argues, in part, that since the conception of Appalachia as a distinctly different region from the rest of the South and the United States, the foods associated with the region and its people have often been used to socially categorize and stigmatize mountain people. Rather than investigate the actual foods consumed in Appalachia, Locklear instead focuses on the representations of foods consumed, implied moral judgments about those foods, and how those judgments shape reader perceptions of those depicted. The question at the core of Locklear’s analysis asks, How did the dominant culinary narrative of the region come into existence and what consequences has that narrative had for people in the mountains?
Erica Abrams Locklear is a professor of English and the Thomas Howerton Distinguished Professor of Humanities at the University of North Carolina Asheville. She is the author of Appalachia on the Table: Representing Mountain Food and People (University of Georgia Press) and Negotiating a Perilous Empowerment: Appalachian Women’s Literacies (Ohio University Press). She is a seventh-generation Western North Carolinian from Leicester who loves good food, books, and conversation.

Brian is an Emmy-winning late night comedy writer and stand-up comedian who has written for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. As a stand-up, he’s been selected for the New Faces showcase at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, and performs regularly in New York City and on the road. His first album Last Wishes, which streams regularly on Sirius XM, debuted at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts.

Roman Fraden is a comedian and a regular performer at classic Hollywood venues including The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv. He has trained with Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theatre in Los Angeles and has performed in various ensemble casts in film and on stage. His one man show ‘Back In The Closet’ made it’s world premiere at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018.

Sam Evans is a comic originally from Cincinnati, OH. After winning the 2012 Funniest Person in Cincinnati competition, Sam relocated to New York City in order to pursue comedy further, and was rewarded in 2014, when he was selected as one of the New Faces of the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 2014. He has been featured on the Audible comedy podcast “Sounds Like America”. In 2020, he released his debut standup album “Sweet Baby Boy” with Blonde Medicine records, which debuted at #1 on iTunes.

He has also been a performer at SXSW, Laughing Skull Fest, Red Clay Comedy Festival, and New South Comedy Fest. Shaunak has opened up for Kyle Kinane, Rory Scovel, Joe Zimmerman, Nore Davis, Sean Patton, Aakash Singh, and many more. His comedy style is energetic, optimistic, and fun.
