Director Candice Burchill seeks a large cast of adults and teens for Alice in Wonderland. All roles at ACT are open to anyone in the community! No experience is necessary to audition.
Auditions are held over two nights, and you may choose either night to audition. All audition material is provided and will be available at the auditions. Generally, you will be asked to read pages from the script in front of the director, the stage manager, and another reader. Feel free to stop by the theatre’s box office to check out a script ($10 deposit which is returned to you when you bring back the script).

How to Combat and Prevent Challenges related to large body size. A free class open to the public designed to empower parents and older children/teens to develop habits that help combat and prevent challenges related to large body size. Our non-diet approach focuses on family structure, coping skills, and promoting a positive sense of self. We will also help explain the pediatric growth curve and what research shows about large body size and health.
Come out to Carolina Pediatric Therapy to participate in this topic presented in our Parent Education Night series, led by our knowledgeable Dietitian/Nutritionist and Behavioral Health Therapist! We will be providing some light snacks and refreshments!

Beth Maczka announced that she will be stepping down from her role as CEO of YWCA, effective May 2019. In response, the YWCA Board of Directors will host two Community Listening Sessions on Tuesday, February 12th to gather input from the Asheville community as they formulate a hiring plan for the next CEO and recruit new Board members.
In order to guide their selection process, the Board of Directors is reaching out to the community for input at two Community Listening Sessions to take place on Tuesday, February 12th in the YWCA Multipurpose Room from 3-4 pm and again from 6-7 pm. The Listening Sessions will be facilitated by Aisha Adams of Aisha Adams Media, and childcare, light refreshments, and Spanish language interpretation will be provided. The Board is seeking input on the values and qualities needed in both a new CEO and new members of the Board of Directors.
In alignment with their mission and their commitment to recruiting members who are truly representative of the Asheville community, the YWCA Board of Directors recently passed a policy to pay a stipend of up to $1,000 per year to board members who otherwise might have barriers to Board service and participation. Up to eight new Board members will be selected for a 3 year term which will begin July 2019.
The mission of the YWCA is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

For February, we are partnering with AR Workshop Asheville for our weekly Craft & Barrel Night. AR Workshop will be set up in the Tasting Room every Tuesday evening with a craft project that will pair perfectly with a glass of our finest barrel-aged beer!
2/5 – This week’s project has you making your own bottle opener, with two different options being available to you. All materials and tools will be supplied for a flat price ($30 for the plank option and $40 for the box option). Laura E. Wolfson presents For Single Mothers Working As Train Conductors in conversation with Elizabeth Kostova
Laura Esther Wolfson’s literary debut draws on years of immersion in the Russian and French languages; struggles to gain a basic understanding of Judaism, its history, and her place in it; and her search for a form to hold the stories that emerge from what she has lived, observed, overheard, and misremembered. In “Proust at Rush Hour,” when her lungs begin to collapse and fail, forcing her to give up an exciting and precarious existence as a globetrotting simultaneous interpreter, she seeks consolation by reading Proust in the original while commuting by subway to a desk job that requires no more than a minimal knowledge of French. In “For Single Mothers Working as Train Conductors” she gives away her diaphragm and tubes of spermicidal jelly to a woman in the Soviet Union who, with two unwanted pregnancies behind her, needs them more than she does. “The Husband Method” has her translating a book on Russian obscenities and gulag slang during the dissolution of her marriage to the Russian-speaker who taught her much of what she knows about that language. In prose spangled with pathos and dusted with humor, Wolfson transports us to Paris, the Republic of Georgia, upstate New York, the Upper West Side, and the corridors of the United Nations, telling stories that skewer, transform, and inspire.
Wolfson will be joined by Elizabeth Kostova, author of The Historian, The Swan Thieves, and The Shadow Land.

Join us for a calming evening crafting experience at Alchemy Tearoom with Ona Armstrong of Firefly Valley Design and Consulting. With centering music playing and nourishing treats and hot drinks from the tearoom available for purchase, the tearoom will become a haven for calm and creativity. Participants will learn to roll beeswax sheets into two candles and an accompanying mandala-style candle holder using natural materials provided. We’ve been talking to the folks from Bardic Alchemy, a Celtic Rock band from Asheville and they’ve agreed to play at Triskelion as many Tuesdays as they can come down to the Brewery.
Bardic Alchemy is a brand new element in the Celtic Rock world. This trio, based in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina is comprised of multi-instrumentalist Connell Sanderson, guitarist Nick Marcone and percussionist and vocalist Tyler Watts.
Bardic Alchemy is best described as a psychedelic trip into a musical world that is heavily inspired by the Celtic musical traditions…run through various effects pedals. Everything from soothing, mellifluously reverberating whistle melodies supported by groovy guitar lines and thumping djembe beats to high energy dance tunes on the Scottish and Irish pipes to three part vocal harmonies and even improvised pieces, Bardic Alchemy is a surprisingly dynamic and unpredictable musical journey.
