The French Broad Valley Music Association: FBVMA jam session is focused on regional fiddle tunes and songs. Carol Rifkin and John Mitchell cohost weekly, bring an instrument to play or just enjoy the music, its free, kid friendly, donations encouraged. Key Players are intermediate to advanced but beginners are most welcome and encouraged to attend to listen, learn/quietly play along. More experienced players sit in the inner circle and take turns choosing fiddle tunes or songs. Guests, families and kids are invited to listen and often sing along. This style of community play has been used to entertain and pass down music to kids for generations.
The French Broad Valley Music Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization formed to celebrate local musical heritage. “Our community. Our music. Our sense of place.”

Aaron Wood is quite the renaissance music man. He grew up steeped in the traditions of blues and folk music of North Carolina. His father has shared the stage with the likes of Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley and performed at The Grand Ole Opry, taking Aaron with him every chance he got. It didn’t take long before the music took hold, and he studied any kind of music he could get his fingers on.
One look at the long list of artists he has shared the stage with exemplifies his diversity and respect from his musical peers. From Jimmy Martin to Leon Russel, R.L. Burnside to Warren Haynes, Sara Evans to Carlos Santana, Aaron has played with and learned from some of those who have helped shaped music into what it is today.
Each Wednesday features a different performer joining Woody on stage.

Yes! There will be two performance opportunities. One in Asheville at Asheville Follies, and one in Jacksonville, Florida at the River City Raqs festival. Details for both will be discussed at length. Performance is always optional and never required!
What will the costuming be?
For performances, effort will be made to keep costs low. Bellydance costumes will be worn in warm colors and students are encouraged to use what they already own.

Join Amy Cantrell and an array of local guests in deep conversations about their lives and how they are embodying their full selves on the ground. How are they enfleshing their sacred practice in gutsy actions that bring about life and liberation.
Pull up a seat for these raw conversations where people tell their stories about how they are living and resisting in these days, what spiritual practices are sustaining them, and how we can embody Spirit and our passion for justice in the world in attentive and powerful ways.
We are honored to have the very gifted Daniele Martin as the inaugural guest for Embody. Daniele is the director of Black Nativity Liberation Holiday an artistic production in celebration of black heritage, contributions, creativity, and community. Live Music
This year, we are happy to feature Bohemian Jean as our live entertainment. Bohemian Jean is a duo made up of Waynesville residents, singer-songwriter Matthew Welborn and his vocalist wife Jessi Stone. Stone chooses covers that suit her soulful alto voice, including hits from Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Patsy Cline, and Carly Simon. Welborn complements his wife’s voice with rich harmonies, while also adding his own fun covers and original music to the performance. Since meeting and falling in love in high school, the duo’s natural chemistry has shone through when they perform the music they love.
Thank you to our lead sponsor, French Broad Chocolates Factory & Café, for its generous support of the Museum and this event.

It’s not bike night. It’s not movie night. It’s Moto Movie Night – 45rpm
Last event was fantastic, we packed the house, and everyone had a blast. We’ll do it bigger, better (and a little louder) this time.
We look forward to seeing everyone out again.
Cheers!

In lieu of all the bike nights we will miss as we make way through the winter season, we host “Moto Movie Night”. Each month throughout the cold and dark times of the year we will converge at an amazing location to bring this great night. We will pick an awesome motorcycle movie for each month and show it on the big screen. We invite riders of all types to come and join us and talk about your winter projects, future trips, etc.
You don’t have to ride in but it would be awesome.
It’s free but donations are appreciated.

Welcome to the 2nd month of 2019 & a shiny new Waterbean Poetry Night at the Mic! For something a little different, this month’s event features a BOOK LAUNCH & READING with a returning popular Waterbean alum, MIKE JAMES! You won’t want to miss this fun & enlightening evening at Waterbean!
MIKE JAMES is widely published in magazines large & small throughout the United States. His twelve (yes, 12!) poetry collections include First-Hand Accounts from Made-Up Places (Stubborn Mule Press, Dec. 2018), Crows in the Jukebox (Bottom Dog), My Favorite Houseguest (FutureCycle Press), & Peddler’s Blues (Main Street Rag Publishing). Mike served as an associate editor for the Kentucky Review, Good Works Review, & Autumn House Press, as well as publisher of the now-defunct Yellow Pepper Press. Featured program starts at 7:15. Event is FREE and open to the public. Please support the venue and featured poet, whose books will be available for purchase and signing before event and during the 15-minute break.
OPEN MIC:
Follows featured program. Sign up by 7:10; first come, first served; spots are limited!—this may be adjusted at host’s discretion.
POETS and FLASH WRITERS are welcome to read or recite within a TIME LIMIT of FIVE (5) MINUTES at the mic (including explanations and comments). This usually means 1-2 pages MAX, a limit of two poems.
PROSE writers, please note: NOVEL excerpts/works in progress are NOT ideal for this type of open mic due to the short time limit and inevitable lack of closure. Flash works best to satisfy the crowd.
As a courtesy to fellow poets, please stay for the duration. Mutual support is strongly encouraged! Please silence your cell phone during the event, and fully experience the joy & community of poetry.
Bring a poem or two, a friend or three! You’ll love locally owned and operated Waterbean Coffee! Enjoy their great selection of coffee, tea, wine, beer, smoothies, sandwiches and desserts.
Please feel free to message me with any questions or feedback.
Peace,
Leslie
