ATS® Level 1 – Dance Fundamentals
This is an on-going class series. You’ll learn the basic system of ATS® in a fun and supportive environment. Dance Fundamentals will have you dancing ATS® in your very first class! Each one hour class is divided into two sections.

1. Drill it – Learn the basic movements of ATS® with minimal verbal instruction and lots of following along, committing the steps to muscle memory with a fun workout-style drills.
2. Dance it – Experience the magic of ATS® and learn how to use the basic steps to dance with partners in a duet, trio, and quartet formations.

You can start this on-going class series at anytime and drop-in for drills and review.

ATS® (American Tribal Style) Belly Dance is an improv tribal style belly dance that is universal worldwide with every move having a certain cue with a leader and followers in a duet, trio, or quartet formation that is always changing leads. The beauty of ATS® is a strong Flamenco influence, along with India and North Africa dance, combined into tribal style belly dance. If you know ATS® you can dance with anyone in the world that also knows ATS®, even just meeting for the first time!

Bio
Michelle has been dancing ATS® (American Tribal Style) since 2006. She has taken countless ATS® workshop classes around the United States to further her education, knowledge, and skill of ATS®. Michelle received her ATS® Teaching Certification in 2015, and had her own troupe, Mystique Mountain Tribal Belly Dance, in Charlotte before moving to the Black Mountain area.

We are honored to share our passion for our Beloved Black Bears in our exhibit at the “FW Gallery” in Woolworth Walk – downtown Asheville. We are grateful to have been chosen to be their Featured Artists. We want to also thank the many lovely people who work at Woolworth Walk and have supported and assisted us with the exhibit.

The FW Gallery exhibit will end Tuesday, January 29th at 6pm. Our permanent artist booth #229 downstairs “Beloved Black Bear” has over 50 black bear canvases 11×14 at $75 each. We hope you will stop by to visit.

We are happy to say that many black bear canvases have been sold and are now adorning many homes. Our wish is for all of us to share our compassion for the black bear with our friends, family, and neighbors and create connections with the bears giving them a voice.

Each year in January, Monte’s Sub Shop participates in Food for Thought, except last year- we kept getting shut down by snow! Many local establishments donate a portion of their sales back to the Education Foundation to support educational excellence, and January 22 is our day!

Speaker Bio

Dr. Schreck investigates tropical weather and its impacts around the globe. He engages with partners in private industry to explore how these systems can improve long-range forecasts of weather risk over the United States, including hurricanes, extreme precipitation, and extreme temperatures. Dr. Schreck earned his PhD in Atmospheric Science from the University at Albany in 2010 and has been with NCICS ever since.

Learning about foods and objects in your kitchen can be exciting and fun to explore, but what if you had the chance to make some of your own? In this class students will develop work relating to items they use in their kitchen while learning more about sculpting and decorating clay. We will be focusing on using the wheel and a variety of hand building methods to create fun, functional objects for everyday use or play!

Starting at 6:30 pm, Angie of Get Creative Atlanta/Carolina will take you step by step through the creation of a beautiful, hand-made painting. (The picture we are doing is the cover photo and it is posted in the discussion and you can choose your own background colors). Pre-payment is required, see below. In this class we will be focusing our efforts into creating beautiful plates, platters, and assorted dishes to liven up your serving game at home. Implementing plaster mold making and slab construction, we will be making both loose and refined forms that showcase surface design and fluidity. This class takes a fun, whimsical, and creative approach to forming and decorating, while providing students with solid fundamentals for their future handbuilding endeavors.

We’ve been talking to the folks from Bardic Alchemy, a Celtic Rock band from Asheville and they’ve agreed to play at Triskelion as many Tuesdays as they can come down to the Brewery.

Bardic Alchemy is a brand new element in the Celtic Rock world. This trio, based in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina is comprised of multi-instrumentalist Connell Sanderson, guitarist Nick Marcone and percussionist and vocalist Tyler Watts.

Bardic Alchemy is best described as a psychedelic trip into a musical world that is heavily inspired by the Celtic musical traditions…run through various effects pedals. Everything from soothing, mellifluously reverberating whistle melodies supported by groovy guitar lines and thumping djembe beats to high energy dance tunes on the Scottish and Irish pipes to three part vocal harmonies and even improvised pieces, Bardic Alchemy is a surprisingly dynamic and unpredictable musical journey.

CLASSES
7pm: Continuing Class: Second Stops (Choreography) w/ Jean & Karolina

Second Stops, Swing Era Lindy Hop routine from the Savoy Ballroom. This routine was a part of many dancers repertoire and is an important part of the Lindy Hop history.

“Continuing” classes are for those dancers who have cemented the basics of the dance being featured that specific month. This includes knowing (and being able to execute cleanly and consistently) basic footwork and lead/follow skills for that dance. Some continuing classes may require no advance knowledge of a dance. This will be noted in the the class description.

8 pm: Core Class: Intro to Lindy Hop w/ Sparrow & Keith

Learn the foundations of the 8 count Lindy Hop, the high energy dance from Harlem that swept the nation and then the globe. Starting from the very beginning, breaking down the steps and rhythms in easy to understand ways, Keith and Sparrow will get ya on the dance floor and having fun in no time. No partner required and drop in friendly, though of course you’ll learn the most if you start at the beginning of the month and stay till the end!

“Core” lessons stress the fundamentals of swing dancing for beginning dancers. Lessons rotate monthly to focus on a different kind of swing dance (6 Count Lindy, 8 Count Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, etc.). Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we recommend repeating Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you’ll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to “get back to basics” or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow).
