PATIO SHOW :: The Scatterlings at The Grey Eagle
Jul 26 @ 10:00 pm – Jul 27 @ 12:00 am
The Grey Eagle

FREE PATIO SHOW :: The Scatterlings at The Grey Eagle

The Scatterlings are a four-piece acoustic/Americana band based in Asheville, North Carolina. The members share a fondness for songs about heartbreak, whiskey, killings, and hangings, although they promise they are actually all very peaceable people. Many of their songs are steeped deep
in local history.

The band formed when vocalist and baritone ukulele player Elfy Kornfeld, guitarist Rick Russell, and upright bassist Terrell Jones met at The Berry Pickers, a weekly jam group. Later, Elfy met mandolin player, Josh Sill, in the grocery store, because in Asheville you are as likely to find a bluegrass picker as a green smoothie in your local grocery. The Scatterlings however, sound neither bluegrassy (though there are undeniable mountain influences at play) nor green. There are folk stylings, astute songwriting, textural instrumentation, and the palpable chemistry of players who are happy to have found each other.

Isis Music Hall

The Rough & Tumble are excited to begin their Howl Back Tour at ISIS Music Hall in Asheville, NC on Friday July 26, 2019 at 7PM.

The Rough & Tumble are as easy to detect as a stray dog on your doorstep– and as difficult to send home. The dumpster-folk, thriftstore-Americana duo, consisting of Mallory Graham & Scott Tyler and their menagerie of classic folk and homemade instruments, have been hobbling around the country in their 16ft camper with their dogs since 2015, taking their songs to the far corners of the US and to the weird little towns they pass along the way. Written during a time of doggedly trying despite the odds and a self-proclaimed “year of honesty,” The Rough & Tumble will release their new studio album Howling Back at the Wounded Dog. Join the pack live on their Howl Back Tour beginning in July 2019 so you can sing along when the album comes out September 6, 2019. For more information, visit www.theroughandtumble.com.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, The Musical
Jul 26 @ 7:30 pm
Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a scrumdidilyumptiously magical musical.

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory follows enigmatic candy manufacturer, Willy Wonka, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory… or suffer the consequences. This Broadway-style staging of Willy Wonka will take audiences on a fantasy ride into the land of pure imagination and is guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth. A full two-act live stage production.

Music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. Adapted for the stage by Leslie Bricusse and Timothy Allen McDonald

Chicago, Detroit, New York. Bright lights. Big city. Get mesmerized in the sound of Big City Blues. Clear, sharp melodies on horns and harps contrast the deep, rich back beats of the electric bass. Keyboard riffs battle electric guitars that are on fire, and classic blues drum beats drive home the groove. Dirty Soul Revival Live at Triskelion
Jul 27 @ 12:00 am – 2:00 am
Triskelion Brewing Company

“The Dirty Soul Revival unites, and quite possibly, resurrects the Southern Rock n Roll experience. This band conveys the heart and soul of Rock n’ Roll’s past that today’s radio airwaves are lacking. From Blues Rock, to Hard Rock, to Stoner Rock with a blend of Funk; SOUL is what The Dirty Soul Revival is all about! “
– David Gibson, Ocean Media

The name says it all. Music is expression and only through expression is music kept alive. Forget genres, forget the endless pandering to the masses, forget the formulaic radio vomit that has been created in the studio for the sole purpose of separating you from your dollar. This is music made for people who want to see people bleed, hear people cry, watch someone fail while wishing them to succeed. This band was founded on hate. Love. Fear.

The band was founded in 2014 by husband and wife duo Abraham and Jenni Lynn Anderson jamming in their attic. As the band evolved so did it’s members resulting in Abraham on slide guitar and vocals, Brandon Hill on lead guitar, and Wilson Wedge on Drums. The sound has changed over the years but always leans on the cornerstones of American music. Blues, Country, Rock and roll, Soul, and the unnamable line that connects music of all backgrounds.

The Dirty Soul Revival has kept a solid touring schedule since it’s inception and has shared the stage with the likes of Blackberry Smoke, The Kentucky Headhunters, Shooter Jennings, Black Stone Cherry, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and more. They have rallied a loyal fanbase in their hometown of Asheville, NC and throughout the southeast while touring across the U.S.

One of the more versatile rappers who came out of the Dirty South school of hip-hop in the early 2000s, multi-gold and Grammy-nominated North Carolina native Petey Pablo has demonstrated the art of mixing poignancy with sharp, gut-wrenching lyrics that reach across age, race and social status. The gruff-voiced MC was born and raised in Greenville, NC, and is best known for rap anthems such as “Raise Up,” “Freek-A-Leek” and “Carolina Colors,” have become mainstays on urban radio and as sports stadiums across the country.

“Raise Up” peaked #1 on the US Billboard Rap Chart and #25 on the Billboard Top 100. “Freek-A-Leek” climbed to #2. In addition to his solo career, Pablo has collaborated with artists such as Ciara “Goodies,” Timbaland “Red Bone,” Chris Brown on “Drop Rap,” Lil Wayne “Gangsta Shit,” Sticky Fingaz “Ghetto,” and many others. His collaboration rose to the top of the Billboard US Top 100, R&B and UK charts in 2004. Pablo has demonstrated his versatility with roles in “Drumline,” “Just Another Day,” and most recently on Empire, a guest appearance that included writing the song star Terrence Howard performed “Snitch Bitch.”

His albums Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry and Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry, showcase a diverse effort that ranges from stereotypical Dirty South decadence to poignant, autobiographical tunes that reflect on the challenges and hardships he experienced growing up poor in the Deep South. In early 2003, Petey Pablo’s debut album received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.

West End Blend w/ Maj Deeka at The Grey Eagle
Jul 27 @ 1:00 am – 4:00 am
The Grey Eagle

West End Blend w/ Maj Deeka at The Grey Eagle

Maj Deeka
_________
Four of Raleigh’s most versed musicians formed Maj Deeka in early 2018 when Evan Bost asked his good friend and musical mentor Andy Blair to join the rhythm section of Matt Kirk and Ryan Masecar for a dynamic jam that traversed musical styles and emotions seamlessly. The group proved to be a natural fit, and a high-octane quartet was born.

Maj Deeka exhibits all the qualities needed in a prolific jam band: a collective ear for interesting harmony and melody, a rock-solid groove, chops on hand when the music calls for notes, and the time-earned sensibility of knowing how to take a piece of music and make it bigger than the sum of its parts.

Having recently celebrated their 1 year bandiversary, Maj Deeka has been on a 75° trajectory since the band’s inception, seemingly reaching new milestones with every show. At a late 2018 performance supporting national touring act Ghost Light, the band debuted original material with hair raising three-part vocal harmonies, contemplative lyrics, dense composition, and lightning hot improvisation. Several months later while supporting Asheville based Dr. Bacon, Maj Deeka emanated explosive energy and creativity from the first note, playing directly off the relatively unfamiliar crowd’s interaction like it was their thousandth show.

The band’s second year is marked by bigger stages, new original tunes, and new cities, and the only certainty is that no one, including the band, knows what they might pull off next.
