Join Our Fresh Food Drive!

In these late winter months, fresh fruits and vegetables are hard to come by, especially with the increased cost of groceries we are all seeing. For our neighbors who are struggling to afford groceries, fresh produce is vital for health and wellbeing, but can feel like an out-of-reach luxury. MANNA FoodBank is committed to providing all families with healthy plates of nutritiously dense fresh food, all year round, all across these mountains.

To help MANNA meet this challenge of limited access to fresh produce in the winter months, we are pleased to announce our first virtual Fresh Food Drive. You can make a direct impact in the health of Western North Carolina families by helping MANNA purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, and create those healthy, colorful plates that everyone deserves.

And, thanks to an extremely generous matching gift challenge from the Rakay Family Foundation, your support of the Fresh Food Drive will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000, from March 1st through April 1st! MANNA is deeply grateful to the Rakay Family Foundation for this very special gift matching opportunity to provide nutritious foods to the people we serve across WNC.

“Regardless of economic status, everyone deserves access to healthy foods, and healthy eating benefits the entire community, as our neighbors enjoy improved health outcomes,” said Bruce Rakay of the Rakay Family Foundation. “The Rakay Family is honored in helping to achieve this goal.”

This matching gift will help nourish families in need with a colorful bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables on their plate, and will enable MANNA to meet the challenges of limited access to local, fresh produce in the winter months and the increased costs of sourcing outside of the region.

Thank you for sharing in our commitment to providing healthy, balanced plates of food to our neighbors in need through MANNA’s Fresh Food Drive.

Dominion Energy, Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Partner with Community Blood Center to Increase Blood Donations
Mar 22 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce

The community blood drive will take place on March 22 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce (36 Montford Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801).  As a thank you for donating, all blood donors will receive a $20 eGift card, a BONUS $25 eGift card and be entered to win a $500 gift card to Ingles.  Appointments are encouraged and can be made by clicking here, but walk-ins are also welcome.

The Blood Connection (TBC) is partnering with Dominion Energy and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce to host a community blood drive, with the intent of increasing blood donations in Western North Carolina.

All donors at drive will be entered to win $500 Ingles gift card

When TBC put out an urgent call for blood drive hosts in January amid a critical need for blood donations, Dominion Energy answered the call: quickly reaching out about how the company could help address the need.  The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce has been a long-time partner of The Blood Connection – hosting blood drives and serving as a host location for past “WLOS Operation Blood Drives.”  With the help of both organizations, The Blood Connection is confident this partnership can boost blood donations in the greater-Asheville area and beyond.

“Our area is experiencing a critical need for life-saving blood, and Dominion Energy is proud to stand alongside The Blood Connection and our partner, the Asheville Chamber to do our part,” said Julie Roper, Dominion Energy’s Economic Development and Local Affairs Manager in the area. “Donating blood will help save lives right here in our backyard. It’s all about neighbors helping neighbors.”

“We are pleased to partner with The Blood Connection to help meet the needs for blood donation in our community,” said Leeanne Briggs, Vice President of Member Services for the Asheville Chamber. “We encourage businesses and individuals who are willing and able to sign up for the blood drive.”

As the sole blood provider for most of the Western North Carolina hospitals, including Mission Health, Advent Health, and Pardee Health, blood donations made with TBC stay local.  The Blood Connection needs to collect 800 units of blood each day to ensure there are enough blood products to meet hospital partners’ needs.

The Blood Connection Donations: We Stand with Ukraine
Mar 24 @ 7:00 am – 7:00 pm
The Blood Connection

After tremendous donor support last week, The Blood Connection is offering blood donors another chance to help the people of Ukraine.

Nearly 600 blood donors came to donation centers across the Carolinas and Georgia last week to double their impact – donating blood to help their local hospitals while also helping to raise money for United Help Ukraine, a non-profit focused on helping those impacted by Russian attacks on Ukraine.  Thanks to blood donors, The Blood Connection raised $2,900 for United Help Ukraine.

This week, once again, The Blood Connection will donate $5 to United Help Ukraine for every blood donor who donates at a TBC center on March 24 and 25.  Donors also have the option of donating their TBC Rewards Points back to the organization through the TBC online store.

The Blood Connection thanks every blood donor who stepped up to make an impact in their community and across the world.

In addition to the $5 donation, blood donors will receive a pair of Bluetooth headphones and a $20 eGift card as a “thank you” for their donation.  Donors wishing to donate their eGift card back to United Help Ukraine can do so by going to the TBC Online Store following their donation.  To find a center, go to thebloodconnection.org/centers or call 864-255-5000.  Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome.

Your blood is going to someone who really needs it. To get it there is a process. It takes a team; our phlebotomists collect the blood, our couriers bring it to our headquarters for processing, our lab techs process it, and our couriers then deliver the products to our hospitals. Once they’re there, lives are saved.
