There’s no end to outdoor adventure options in Asheville, with over 200 waterfalls and four navigable rivers, hiking trails for every skill level, and terrain for mountain bikes and road bikes. Add eight national and state parks within a short drive, and it’s no wonder Asheville is consistently rated a top U.S. adventure town.
Zipline between mountaintops within sight of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Craggy Gardens and Mount Mitchell or ride the rapids on the Nantahala River, a waterway that has produced dozens of Olympians and hosted four world championships. Stalk trout on the nation’s first fly fishing trail or raft, kayak or canoe down the French Broad River through the woodlands of Biltmore Estate. Spot some of the area’s nearly 300 species of birds, from hooded warblers and indigo buntings to great horned owls, or pick out constellations in a clear night sky through night-vision goggles.

Insight Dialogue is an interpersonal meditation practice grown from the Vipassana tradition. Through dialogue the mindfulness and tranquility of traditional silent meditation is introduced into interaction with others. This enables us to perceive, understand, and apply an acceptance of others and ourselves in the busyness of our lives. As humans, we are creatures that are interrelated. As we awaken to this experience, insight, clarity, ease and joy flow into our relationship with others.
During this retreat we will meditate together – not next to each other – completely together and truly meditating. We will cultivate mindfulness, quiet concentration, the inquiring mind, energy and other meditative qualities through Insight Dialogue instruction, silent meditation, and a short period of walking meditation. It is an opportunity to connect us directly with the emotional level of our humanity. These exercises help us in difficult situations, bringing us ease during social unrest and fear and giving us the habits to become aware.
In Insight Dialogue we come into direct personal contact with the central human experiences. We will be guided step-by-step with the meditation of Insight Dialogue and led into contemplations. Dharma reflections and time for questions, answers, and exchange are scheduled. Outside of the dialogue the retreat will be held in silence.

All Aboard THE POLAR EXPRESS! This memorable journey will take you on an incredible journey! Believe the magic this Holiday season!
Over 88,000 guests rode THE POLAR EXPRESS with the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in 2017 and we hope to see you in 2018! The 1¼ hour round-trip excursion comes to life as the train departs the Bryson City depot for a journey through the quiet wilderness for a special visit at the North Pole. Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, guests on board will enjoy warm cocoa and a treat while listening and reading along with the magical story. Children’s faces show the magic of the season when the train arrives at the North Pole to find Santa Claus waiting. Santa will board THE POLAR EXPRESS, greeting each child and presenting them with a special gift as in the story, their own silver sleigh bell. Christmas carols will be sung as they return back to the Bryson City Depot.
THE POLAR EXPRESS begins November 9, 2018, and operates through December 31, 2018.
In this remarkable weekend seminar, Dr. Gilbert has selected a group of the most essential energy activation practices: These provide the basis for deep self-transformation, and also create advanced spiritual structures in the human energy body. Many of these profound practices are almost unknown today, even to spiritual seekers and practitioners of energy medicine.
Also in preparation for our annual end of the year seminar in December — where we always feature our very latest discoveries and practical techniques with healing stones — We will be featuring in this November course our new custom-cut Euphoralite pieces (including new types we have just introduced), to powerfully and easily activate the key energy pathways we will explore in this training!

The Artists of Asheville’s River Arts District open their doors for a full weekend at the Fall Studio Stroll, welcoming the public to experience and collect amazing art in the studios and galleries. The Fall Stroll will once again feature a Food Drive in support of MANNA FoodBank by collecting non-perishable food items for our area’s needy families. Donations and information on the event will be located at the City of Asheville’s newly renovated building at 14 Riverside Drive. Attendees will enjoy special demonstrations and events, free parking, and a free shuttle around the one-mile area of the River Arts District. The artists are hoping to match or surpass the approximately 1000 pounds of non-perishables they collected last year for MANNA Food Bank.

DR. BACON is a 7 Piece touring Appalachian Funk, Grass and Rock & Roll band. Blending incredibly diverse instrumentation with broad, deep musical influences, allows the band to perform a plethora of widely accessible, danceable music.
The Dr. Bacon Live Experience is truly a spectacle to behold, bringing the audience on a musical Journey that lulls and spikes in energy, caressing ears with lush beauty and whipping crowds into a tribal romp, shaking booties and shedding inhibitions. This manic versatility ensures that no matter what genre of music you identify with most, you will hear something that resonates. Dr. Bacon started playing together in 2012 on King Street in Boone as a 3 piece busking with acoustic bluegrass, folk, and 90s pop/rock/hip-hop influenced music. Several lineup changes over the years and a move to Asheville have refined and redirected the band’s sound, incorporating funk, rock, soul, psychedelic and world music to Appalachian influences. The blending of several elements of these genres (often within the same song) along with unique instrumentation is the real Bacon flavor.
