UNC Asheville’s Fall 2020 [Virtual] Visiting Writer Series will continue at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 with readings by Luke Hankins and Sebastian Matthews. This Zoom event is presented by UNC Asheville’s Department of English and is free and open to everyone with pre-registration required. Please check back soon for the link.

Hankins and Matthews are both faculty in UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program. Here’s more about the two presenting local writers:
Luke Hankins’ second poetry collection, Radiant Obstacles was released in 2020. He is also the author of the collection Weak Devotions and a book of essays, The Work of Creation, and is the editor of Poems of Devotion: An Anthology of Recent Poets. Hankins is the founder and Editor of Orison Books, a non-profit literary press.

Sebastian Matthews is the author, most recently, of Beyond Repair: Living in a Fractured State (Red Hen Press, 2020), the memoir In My Father’s Footsteps (W.W. Norton & Co.), as well as three collections of poetry: We Generous and Miracle Day, Beginner’s Guide to a Head-on Collision, all published by Red Hen Press. His poetry and prose have appeared in, among others, American Poetry Review, The Atlantic, The Sun, and Tin House.
