Flow with us at our Rooftop Yoga Series hosted by Asheville Community Yoga! This powerful Vinyasa flow is perfect for yogis of every experience level. Bring your water bottle and your mat to The Solarium on the 6th Floor of The Restoration Hotel and get ready to feel restored.

Starting in Montreat, this challenging 13.5 mile route with an elevation gain of 4000 feet will cover portions of the Greybeard Trail, the historic Old Toll Road, and the Buncombe Horse Range (Bridle) Trail, culminating in a 1,000 foot climb from Camp Alice to the Summit of Mount Mitchell.
This is a small group hike for experienced hikers with a limit of 15 participants. All hikers must be pre-approved. Those interested can register below, and will be contacted shortly after by a hike leader to be approved. Please note that on these hikes we do not charge your card the full amount until shortly before the hike. A $10 deposit is required. We will take your card information when you register, and you will be charged the remaining amount approximately two days before the hike.
We will meet at the parking lot at the Montreat Nature Center (301 Lookout Road, Montreat) at 8:15 am and arrive at the summit of Mt. Mitchell by approximately 4:00 pm. Hikers will then be transported back to their vehicles at the Nature Center.
Cost: $60 for Museum Members; $75 for Non-Members (some fees apply).

Join the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy to celebrate our “For Love of Beer and Mountains” partnerships. This hike to Clawhammer Mountain, namesake of Highland Brewing Company’s seasonal Clawhammer Oktoberfest Lager, will be a long and strenuous 10+ mile trip along multi-use trails that traverse mountain bike, equestrian, and hiking trails as well as forest service roads. We will follow the trails up a steep climb along a creek, through wildflower patches and rich cove forest. From Clawhammer Cove to the summit, we will climb close to 1,900 feet to finish at 4,072 ft elevation. The cliff-top view at the summit offers scenic views of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Looking Glass in Pisgah National Forest.
This hike is part of our corporate partnership with Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, NC. Highland donates a portion of sales of seasonal releases during the “release party” at the Tasting Room in Asheville to support SAHC’s land and water conservation efforts, and we lead guided hikes for folks to experience and enjoy the natural landscapes for which these seasonal brews are named.
Please Note: There are a couple single log bridges, muddy areas, rocky and steep inclines and a chance of yellow jackets; SAHC wants to provide a fun and safe trip so please be aware of these conditions.
What To Bring: Hiking boots, hiking poles (optional), packed lunch, 2 liters of water, jacket/rain gear. Please dress in layers.
Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a leash.

Join us for a fall yoga series at the library! This is an all-levels, community-oriented yoga class – accessible to all with modifications to make things easier for those who need and options to make things more challenging for those who wish. Courtney Jarrell has 11 years of experience teaching yoga. She has certifications in Hatha Yoga and Prenatal Yoga, as well as a certification as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. This class will be offered on the 1st Thursday of the month from 4:30-5:30. No registration is required, but participants should bring a mat. Patrick Dean is the author of A Window to Heaven: The Daring First Ascent of Denali, America’s Wildest Peak and Nature’s Messenger: Mark Catesby and His Adventures in a New World. Dean lives, works, and plays in and around Monteagle, Tennessee. He has written speeches for Congressional candidates, taught inner-city high-school English, and earned a master’s degree in theology.
Since 2012, Patrick has been a free-lance writer, social-media content creator, and website designer. He is also the executive director of the Mountain Goat Trail Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a walking and cycling trail on a former railroad bed. Patrick is a content ambassador for Territory Run Co.
A Window to Heaven is his first book.

Have you been wanting try a local hike, but don’t know where to begin? Join Buncombe County Parks & Recreation for scenic morning hikes close to home this fall. This Hike Series is a free four-pack of popular treks lead by Parks and Recreation Staff on weekday mornings. Explorers of all skill levels are invited to experience the fun of one hike, all four or somewhere in between. Space is limited to 15 hikers and advanced registration is necessary.
We will begin our hike at Lookout Mountain Trailhead where we will do a quick icebreaker and get prepped for the hike (we will have water and a few snacks available) PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE TO FILL UP.
From a rewarding overlook of the Seven Sisters Ridge and Swannanoa Valley to a beautiful variety of ferns, fungi, and thick canopy coverage, this loop offers a cool and peaceful adventure through the beautiful forest. All participants will get parking instructions emailed to them a week prior to the hike.
Difficulty level: Beginner to intermediate. The Lookout Trail portion consists of steep inclines with mild rock scrambling, but the remainder of the walk consists of a gentle climb.
Elevation gain: 439 feet

Enjoy a 2-mile round trip hike along an easy/moderate trail to a mountaintop with stunning views. Once there, we’ll share an hour of yoga for all levels at the summit as we take in the unbeatable, panoramic views and soak up the wide open space.

Yoga with goats…it is just as ridiculous and amazing as it sounds. You can expect to grin, giggle, move, and flow alongside the sweetest little snuggly socialites. The goats may pull your attention away from your movement practice from time to time but they are the most adorable anchors to the present moment and can spark pure joy.

Hikers and their dogs are invited to join Conserving Carolina and the Foothills Humane Society on Saturday, December 2nd for a 6.5-mile hike along the Green River Cove trail in the Green River Game Lands. Conserving Carolina’s Community Engagement Director, Pam Torlina, will lead the hike from the trail head off of Green River Cove Road.
This is a great opportunity to give a shelter dog a break from the shelter and allow them to enjoy a socializing walk in the woods. The number of shelter dogs is limited, so please contact Paula Drake, Volunteer Coordinator for FHS by Wednesday, November 22nd to arrange a time for training orientation, pairing with the appropriate dog, and to sign a volunteer waiver. Paula can be reached at [email protected]. Participants may also bring their own dog on the hike so long as they are kept on leash and do not have any nose-to-nose meetings with the shelter dogs.
The 6.5-mile moderate hike mostly parallels the Green River, with an approximately 250′ elevation gain over one mile before descending back to the river for great views and the perfect lunch spot. There are several stream crossings along the trail and the trail terminates just below the Narrows.
Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring a bag lunch and/or snack and plenty of water (don’t forget snacks for your pooch!). Before the hike, you will be asked to sign a waiver form. For your safety, do not attempt any hike beyond your ability and experience.

In Ayurveda, the kapha dosha is cold, heavy, wet, thick, and slow, among other things. This dosha tends to be most present in winter and early spring. As a practice, we challenge that in yoga by building heat in the body and releasing excess water, so we can be our strongest and fittest, boosting our immune system and staving off depression.
