Steve Martin and Martin Short’s “The Dukes of Funnytown!” is a show that redefines the form in unexpected and profound ways, from two of the funniest, most influential and acclaimed talents of the past century. Their humor is often subversive, but it is always a joyous self-deprecating romp from two comedy masters driven to make each other laugh as much as the audience. Kathy recently moved back to the Boston area after living in Key West for 20 years. She was a resident comedian at Comedy Key West and has headlined at many other Key West stages. She has been chosen to perform at prestigious festivals including Boston Comedy and Hampton Beach. She has competed at the Massachusetts and New England’s Funniest competitions. Her popular blog “Diary of a Fathlete” has been highlighted in many publications. She currently performs all over the country. A clean comic, audiences relate to her dry, and awkward take on everyday situations. Her inspiration comes from working with the general public for more than 20 years, traveling the world and mostly the clarity that comes from a good nap. She would almost always rather be home on her couch with her dog.

Have you wanted to learn how to use a pressure canner? Have you wondered about the safest way to can winter squash? This class will cover the basics of pressure canning and review the ins and outs of canning winter squash. Whether you are a beginner or have canned before and want to learn more up-to-date recommendations, you will enjoy this hands-on canning class. We will also learn about the WNC Farmers Market and WNC Foodworks.

The canning class will take place in the WNC Foodworks’ teaching kitchen. We will meet at 9am at their building at the WNC Farmers Market. Come into the market from Brevard Road and come down past the retail buildings and stay to the right. Then make a left to come down to the WNC Foodworks building in the bottom far right corner of the property. Look for our signs for the class. We will then take a tour of the market and learn about purchasing produce in bulk from the wholesale vendors. After the tour we will head back to WNC Foodworks and learn more about what that facility has to offer as we can winter squash together.

On National Public Lands Day, Saturday September 28, 2024, Friends of DuPont Forest will host the 6th annual DuPont Forest Festival, an event celebrating the adventure and beauty of DuPont State Recreational Forest. 

The DuPont Forest Festival is a free, family friendly event open to the public. It is a celebration of  the Forest and the diverse user groups who enjoy it.

We’ll have a mix of drop-in activities, demonstrations, group tours, and hikes, all perfect for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Our number one goal for the Forest Festival is to teach people to love the Forest. Along with having fun, the activities will weave in education about  reducing impacts to the Forest, waterfall safety, trails that serve multiple types of recreationalists  and Forest conservation.

Each event will be led by an expert volunteer and representative from our partner organizations.”
