Cat is a dancing yogini who began hoopdance in 2010, and has been a dedicated practicioner ever since. What began as an attempt to find a fun form of exercise, ended up as so much more. In the hoop, Cat discovered the art of a daily practice, and through this creative movement meditation she has undergone profound transformation. Hoopdance is the key that unlocked the door into her soul! She is inspired to teach any and all who are called to the circle. Her classes are an embodied experience that weaves together hoop technique and theory, with creative exploration, meditation, emotional expression, and archetypal journeying. Her intent is to connect students to the unique flow and innate dancer that exists within us all!

She has taught children and adults, and has been performing fire and flow arts for several years. In 2016 she became a certified hoopdance teacher through Elemental Hoopdance, OneHoopOneLove.

November Youth & Family Meetup
Nov 10 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Tranzmission

Support and community for trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming youth is essential to their well being, and their parents, family, and caregivers need support and community, too! Each month we have a meetup to make connections, share information and ideas, ask for advice, and be able to offer each other understanding and support. Snacks will be provided, but you are welcome to bring things to share if you’d like!

There will be no gatekeeping or demands/expectations about how you and your family navigate transition, just support and a listening ear. We are here to answer questions, offer information and support, and help you connect with other parents who are navigating similar situations, not push any agenda or expectations about what is right for your family. Bring your youth and let them enjoy the ease of socializing with other trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming youth while making something fun and creative that they can bring home with them while you get a chance to connect with other parents and caregivers and talk with our Support Programs Director, Mx. Tuesday Feral, LPCA.

Trained facilitators who are experienced with gender non-conforming youth will offer fun activities for the youth to participate in while the parents and caregivers network and support each other around the joys and trials of helping their children navigate the world and their gender in a separate, facilitated group.

Being Intimacy – A Sexual Authenticity Play Party (Asheville)
Nov 10 @ 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm
A Private Home

Who would You love, and how would you love them, if no one told you how it “should be done”?
What if intimacy wasn’t something you sought from others, but an energy of invitation?
Do you wish you knew more like-minded souls to accompany you on your explorations into Sexual Authenticity?
Who would you be and how would you play if you gave yourself full permission to have your desires?

Join us for an evening of fun and exploration as we experiment with what it means to see and be seen, to touch and be touched. And as always, watching is participation.

Opening Circle: Connection, Consent and Embodiment
During the opening Circle we will build a container of community. The icebreaker games will give you the tools to connect with others in ways you may never have experienced. you will be encouraged to find your own voice to make requests and offers. And you will learn the language of consent and safe sex inquiries. When you are able to experience the free flow of your sexuality, you can open yourself to all of your creativity, emotions and vitality.

Amp up your own sexual energy and enjoy that flow as you interact with others. Dance in the exchange of eros at this evening of sacred community and safe, playful experiential exercises. This is an opportunity to expand your ideas of intimate connection and what counts as SEX. The most important rule of the evening is “don’t do anything you don’t want to do.” Consent and boundaries are all-important and we will help you find yours. Come feel your body’s joy and your heart’s longings.

After the opening circle games, we open up to Play!
This is a place where all parts of you are welcome: your hunger, your fear, your vulnerability and your power. A place where you are encouraged to give voice to your desires, to be seen and to see others. Magically, a room full of strangers will become a sacred community. Can you imagine tasting another’s soul?

Playtime is devoted to the Tantric concept “Everything is an Experiment.” What have you always wanted to experience? How much pleasure will you allow yourself? That might look like sharing a sensual experience with your committed partner in a space where other people are also playing. You might explore relating to someone of the same sex, or multiple partners. You might want to be in the energy of the erotic, and stay within your own energy field. No activity is expected or required, and anything safe and consensual is allowed. In fact, to watch is also to participate. There will be dungeon equipment, massage tables, erotic and snuggle zones available

Light refreshments will be served, and please feel free to bring fun contributions for the snack table.

THIS IS A DRUG AND ALCOHOL FREE EVENT. Be here when you’re here.

This is a sex positive, sex permissive event. Come cuddle. Come kiss. Come dance in the flow of Eros and revel in exploring your Authentic Sexuality.

WHO WOULD ENJOY THIS EVENT?

Think about this before you register. Do you take responsibility for yourself and your experiences? Are you somebody who knows your own wants and boundaries and can communicate them clearly…… and/or you’re willing to work and explore these areas for your own growth and enjoyment? Do you treat yourself and others with respect and kindness? Are you open and allowing of how other people express their gender, and sexuality? Are you willing to let go of your expectations and demands and be present to what IS with an open heart?

Be prompt. We will lock the doors to late arrivals in order to set a safe container. Leave whenever you like. Closing circle will take place 30 min before end of event.

If you’re reading this, thinking, “I would love to come, but I’m not sure I want to participate,” PLEASE COME and enjoy the pressure-free company of like-minded individuals and leave whenever you feel full. Really. There will be no requirement for you to do anything you don’t want to do. We will go over party etiquette at the start, and watching is a totally acceptable way to play.

Dress code is street clothes to the door. Once inside you can change into comfort, your sexiest attire, or nothing at all.

This party is an opportunity to treat all life as an experiment. Since our cardinal rule is

Don’t do anything you don’t want to do! YOU set the stage. You are invited to dance in the space of eros, where sensuality and sexuality can be freely expressed without judgment. You can play with one or many. We will create a space that is safe, stimulating, conscious, and nurturing, and you are encouraged to explore yourself, your desires, and your limits by yourself and with others. And most of all, to HAVE FUN.

Mike Martin Band
Nov 10 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Catawba Brewing Company

IPR’s The Scene has described them as a “…a gritty Americana group with Irish folk and country influences.” They have shared the stage with David Allan Coe, Shooter Jennings, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Great American Taxi featuring Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon, David Childers, Rumpke Mountain Boys, and John Michael Montgomery. They were recently featured on WDVX’s Blue Plate Special. The MMB is a hardworking band that loves to play. They can do it soft and sweet in the corner…or loud and rowdy! They have been building a hardcore following of cowboys, angels, freaks, hippies, and good old boys & girls.

Folkadelic Jam Live at Triskelion
Nov 10 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Triskelion Brewing Company

Jeff Michels’ Folkadelic Jam is going to play live at Triskelion Brewing Company at 8pm.

Here is some info about the band from Jeff himself:

” I started songwriting as soon as I strummed my first guitar at 16 years old, and haven’t stopped… started piano around then, too. Many years of singing out since then… upstate New York, Maryland, Sacramento, Atlanta, Virginia, Seattle, and now, western North Carolina. I was born and raised in the apple country of New York state–not too far from Woodstock I perform with acoustic guitar and a strong voice and a leaning towards rock and folk — “Folkadelic” one might say… Jim Robertson picked up his folk-congas not so long ago, and we’ve been making rhythm and harmonies since and adds synergy to my music. He hasn’t cut his pony tail either. Eric Congdon can play. You all know that. And when he joins me, those folk songs turn into Rock and Roll! Tyler Matthews can pop those drums and keeps me in time. Steve Kirkland has been joining Jim and I recently, playing lead and adding another dimension to “folkadelic jam” Together we will make you smile and tap your feet. Listen to the Music! “

“With a nod to the past and a firm foot down on the gas toward the future, the ‘Dusters… don’t leave bluegrass behind; they’re stretching it from within.” – New York Times

“The Stringdusters are the Star Wars of Bluegrass and this is their Return of the Jedi. Stop fiddling with your lightsaber and get this album.” – Ryan Adams

“…these stellar bluegrass players are pushing the music forward.” – David Dye/World Café

A band should never stop progressing.

Forward motion belies creativity and evolution. A staunch and unwavering commitment to progression is how an unassuming group of five friends can collectively become a GRAMMY® Award-winning force of nature. That’s exactly how it happened for The Infamous Stringdusters. Within thirteen years since their 2005 formation, the band—Travis Book [bass, vocals], Andy Falco [guitar, vocals], Jeremy Garrett [fiddle, vocals], Andy Hall [dobro, vocals], and Chris Pandolfi [banjo, vocals]— have consistently forged ahead, relentlessly exploring the musical possibilities of a “bluegrass ensemble” and breaking down boundaries in the process.

In a genre known for traditionalism, the ‘Dusters have consistently covered new ground, inspired fans, and redefined what a bluegrass band can be. 2018 represented a high watermark for the quintet as they took home a GRAMMY® Award in the category of “Best Bluegrass Album” for their 2017 release Laws of Gravity.

Even with such milestones, the members feel like they’re only getting started.

“I’m most inspired by the evolution of the music,” agrees Book. “The band is reaching new heights with our exploration and jamming. The repertoire is deep, and our crew is so entwined in the music and presentation of the show. It’s all come together in the last year or so.”

Hall adds, “Releasing three recorded projects this year has been artistically exciting. Mostly, the band has taken a huge leap forward in our live show with our improvisation blending from one song into the next. It’s made everything that much more fun.”

The motion includes a prolific output that rivals any act in music. In 2017 alone, they released three projects: Laws of Gravity, Laws of Gravity: Live, and Undercover Vol. 2 through Lumenhouse Recordings. Impressively, the band’s eighth full length record, Laws of Gravity, received a 2018 GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Bluegrass Album”, bowed in the Top 10 of the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, and marked their third debut at #1 on the Bluegrass Albums Chart with Undercover Vol. 2 becoming their seventh Top 10 entry. Recognized by some of the top names in the game, they teamed up with Ryan Adams for performances of “Sweet Carolina” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and Newport Folk Festival. Phil Lesh also tapped them as his band for Phil and Friends at Lockn alongside members of Phish.

Another tenet of that progression, the second installment of the Undercover series exemplifies the exploration ethos, transforming various recognizable anthems into raw and rootsy gems. “Jessica” by The Allman Brothers Band, rollicks and rolls, “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk maintains its dancefloor energy, and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” adopts newfound urgency. The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” undergoes a bluegrass makeover with galloping banjo and blistering solos.

Along the way, The Stringdusters have won three International Bluegrass Music Association Awards in 2007 for their debut record, Fork in the Road, in addition to snagging a nomination for “Instrumental Group of the Year” by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2010. Meanwhile, Things That Fly’s “Magic No. 9” garnered a 2011 GRAMMY® nod in the category of “Best Country Instrumental.”

The Infamous Stringdusters are grateful for the recognition, but they continue to move forward full speed ahead.

“I just hope that our music gives people a chance to feel free; free from the burdens of everyday life that we all have, free to just be themselves and be happy,” Falco leaves off.

“It’s an amazing gift to play this music, to share this journey with these guys,” concludes Book. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything, there’s no other gig I’d rather have, no other place I’d rather be than in the moment making this music. This band, our organization and crew, we’re a family and I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope we can do this for years to come.”
