An understanding of the chemical structures in plants is advantageous to produce the most effective herbal preparations. This introduction to botanical constituents will be taught in simple and accessible terminology. Participants will learn about polysaccharides, polyphenols, phytoestrogens, alkaloids, tannins, resins, and volatile oils, as well as how best to extract, deliver, and preserve these constituents. This class will help anyone interested in the science of plant medicine better understand how the constituents of commonly used botanicals influence human health and physiology. An extensive background in chemistry is not needed to benefit from this material – anyone with an interest in learning more about the inner mysteries of botanicals is welcome to attend!

We’ve been talking to the folks from Bardic Alchemy, a Celtic Rock band from Asheville and they’ve agreed to play at Triskelion as many Tuesdays as they can come down to the Brewery.
Bardic Alchemy is a brand new element in the Celtic Rock world. This trio, based in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina is comprised of multi-instrumentalist Connell Sanderson, guitarist Nick Marcone and percussionist and vocalist Tyler Watts.
Bardic Alchemy is best described as a psychedelic trip into a musical world that is heavily inspired by the Celtic musical traditions…run through various effects pedals. Everything from soothing, mellifluously reverberating whistle melodies supported by groovy guitar lines and thumping djembe beats to high energy dance tunes on the Scottish and Irish pipes to three part vocal harmonies and even improvised pieces, Bardic Alchemy is a surprisingly dynamic and unpredictable musical journey.
So… Tuesdays… will now be…
Celtic Rock Tuesday!

You’ve been asking and we listened.
This marks the first ever in-depth sensory analysis by Urban Orchard Cider Co. and we will pair it with a private tour of the new cider making facility in the South Slope. We’ll be getting pretty nerdy while sampling some of the best craft cider in the U.S.
Urban Orchard Cider Co. has been recognized by the likes of: Food and Wine (Best Place to Drink Cider in America), Bon Appétit, Food Republic, United States Association of Cidermakers (Best Cider Establishment in the South), Lonely Planet, and by all of you from Mountain Xpress as Best Local Cidery every year it has been a category and now in the Hall of Fame, and more.
The evening of sensory analysis will introduce the sensory techniques used for wine, beer and cider. How to discern between different aroma and flavor compounds, how they are produced by yeast, how they change due to differing circumstances and how infusions play a part in the overall sensory profiles of our ciders. You will also be given an in-depth tour of the cider production facility so that you can understand how the cider flavors you taste later are affected by our unique production process.
All materials will be provided, tasting sheets, pens, etc.

An introduction to the fun & exciting Brazilian street dance. Samba owes its rhythm and moves to African dances. The traditional African circle dance with a lone central performer relied on weight shifts, rapid steps, and slides to a 2/4 percussive beat, and a fairly still upper body with arms and hands responding to the hip and leg movements. samba is irresistible, its gyrations richly colored by regional and international influences. Today, it would be impossible to imagine carnival without samba.

From award-winning filmmaker Dan Habib comes INTELLIGENT LIVES, a catalyst to transform the label of intellectual disability from a life sentence of isolation into a life of possibility for the most systematically segregated people in America.
INTELLIGENT LIVES stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities – Micah, Naieer, and Naomie – who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce. Academy Award-winning actor and narrator Chris Cooper contextualizes the lives of these central characters through the emotional personal story of his son Jesse, as the film unpacks the shameful and ongoing track record of intelligence testing in the U.S.
INTELLIGENT LIVES challenges what it means to be intelligent, and points to a future in which people of all abilities can fully participate in higher education, meaningful employment, and intimate relationships.
We are excited to announce that #IntelligentLives is coming to Asheville on March 12. It will be screening at The Biltmore Grande Stadium and tickets can be reserved at https://gathr.us/screening/24042
The movie screening will be followed by a panel discussion with young adult self-advocates, parents, educators, and business
leaders.

Growing up just down the road from Doc Watson, Billboard-charting artists Cane Mill Road rock the traditional bluegrass standards they grew up on, yet boldly tackle writing original music that often walks the lines between Bluegrass, Americana, Old-time, and Folk. Audiences love Cane Mill Road’s high-energy performances, easy going rapport both on and off stage, and the eclectic mix of originals and standards in the show.
Every Tuesday evening Isis presents our Tuesday Bluegrass Sessions. The sessions are hosted each week by a local bluegrass musician with friends or a band. Following the host band, Bluegrass musicians from the Asheville area gather on stage to jam in an open session. Occasionally, we feature a touring band that will perform prior to the open session and help co-host the jam. It’s always a great evening of music and community.
