Stonewall Sports, a community-based nonprofit recreational sports organization for members of the LGBTQAI+ community and straight allies, recently announced Asheville as its newest affiliate city. The sports group was founded in Washington, D.C., in 2010 to raise funds for local nonprofits through inclusive, low-cost organized sports. Since then, it has expanded into eighteen cities, five in North Carolina alone.

iDaph Events is proud to help support the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries by presenting it’s first ever Light Up the Night 5k on August 9th: A glow-in-the-dark nighttime run for all abilities that will wind through the historic streets of Montford in Asheville. This is your time to shine! Runners will take to the streets starting at 7:30 pm in “glow swag” in this fun and unique event, and all the proceeds from this run will directly benefit the continuous work of recovery, rescue, and restoration to individuals throughout WNC.
The Run: A scenic, night-time fun 5K run through the Historic Montford area in Asheville, North Carolina. The run will follow along Montford Avenue and Hill Street through beautiful Victorian neighborhoods that mirror Asheville’s cosmopolitan character. The run will start and end at Western Carolina Rescue Ministries.
Registration: Early Registration is only $30 and begins on April 1, 2019, through April 30th. After that, the price of registration will increase incrementally until the race day. Participants will receive a free ‘glow’ t-shirt if they register by July 28th.
Backing a Good Cause: Western Carolina Rescue Ministries (WCRM) exists to serve the homeless, poor and addicted populations of Western North Carolina. They meet people in crisis, focus on helping them at the point of their need, invest in their future, and help them until they can move forward.
Awards: Awards will be given to the top three finishers male/female overall, top one overall master’s (male/female) and top three (male/female) in various age-graded categories. (See Awards Section for more specific categories)

Over the past 13 years, the Lake Lure Olympiad has given back over $315,000 to area charities and service organizations

Entry fee for the race is $100.00. Lottery will open at 12:00AM on August 1st and close at 11:59PM on August 14th. Runners must be 19 or older to participate. For the first time and NEW for the 40th Anniversary, we will be operating from a LOTTERY SYSTEM this year. All prospective entrants will be required to use Ultrasignup to enter the lottery. There will be NO in-store entries.
Priority will be given to previous winners, those who have completed the race the last five years consecutively, eight or more times cumulatively, and previous race volunteers. ***It is still imperative that these runners still enter the lottery***
Race numbers may be picked up on the day of the race at the arboretum from 8:30 until 9:45

Kids are put in groups based on age and ability with seven levels available. The session is six weeks long and is $79 for members or $99 for non-members for one class a week or $129/$149 for two classes a week plus a play day at the end of the session. Each player also gets a half hour one-on-one session with one of our certified pros.
The format for this session is having classes once or twice a week for six weeks. Then the session concludes with a fun L6 Play Day where they can get match experience. All classes are taught by certified tennis professionals and will be held on HRC’s outdoor or indoor courts.

The Chamber Classic Golf Tournament is a fun opportunity for members of the business community to network, connect with colleagues, and enjoy a beautiful day out of the office. This Captain’s Choice tournament begins with a shotgun start at 8:00 am and again at 2:00 pm. Sponsors will host fun contests at several holes, with prizes offered for players. Entry fee includes breakfast provided by Bojangles of WNC before the morning flight, and all participants are invited to enjoy a healthy lunch provided by Arby’s. Two beverage stations will be set up on the course, with beer provided by Highland Brewing Company and soft drinks from Pepsi-Cola. Hole 14 on the course features a hole-in-one contest, and some lucky golfer may win a brand new car, compliments of Asheville Ford Lincoln! . Mia Jackson is a bonafide Georgia peach (that’s Georgian for “native”) and self proclaimed know-it-all. After graduating from the University of Georgia she hit the local comedy scene and has thrilled audiences since day one. To her credit she has appeared on NickMom’s Night Out, Viceland and was a semi-finalist on Season 9 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. She has appeared on Inside Amy Schumer and the movie Mother’s Day. In 2017, she was named a New Face at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and Atlanta’s Creative Loafing named her the city’s Best Stand-Up. Smart, funny, and versatile, Mia entertains all types of crowds. She just filmed her Comedy Central special at the end of January.
