STIG:
Asheville-based funk fusion band STIG is an all-instrumental progressive jazz funk band consisting of 5 best friends from a myriad of places both geographically and musically. “We share music with each other during the day, and weave those news ideas into our shows at night.” Their improvisational nature paired with tight communication and 2 years of playing and
growing together creates an exploratory and engaging live show experience.
STIG tunes are all original and are always written as a group to fuse each member’s genre-crossing influences. Since forming in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music, STIG has been touring the country non-stop, playing high-energy shows, and catering their funk to the vibe and energy of the crowd.

Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.
Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.
Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).
Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.

Ready to jump start your writing for the New Year? Join us for our signature workshop, Creating Your Writing Life.
Since 1993, the Flatiron Writers critique group has been meeting to provide feedback and support for one another. Since 2010, we have brought presenters to Asheville to teach classes on craft and the business of writing. In this day-long workshop, the Flatiron Writers will share what has worked for us in claiming a creative life, focusing on Space & Environment, Routines & Rituals, Process, and Community. The event will last from 10am to 4pm with an hour lunch break. A “writing group speed dating” activity will take place starting at 3:30pm and continue into a wine and cheese social hour from 4-5pm, giving participants a chance to continue their conversations and explore forming writing groups.
Workshop is Saturday, February 16, 2019, from 10am to 4pm followed by a wine and cheese social from 4pm to 5pm.
To register by check instead of through Eventbrite, mail your check and email address to the Flatiron Writers Room, 5 Covington Street, Asheville, NC 28806. You will be registered when your payment is received, space permitting.
This event is co-sponsored and hosted by the Thomas Wolfe Center for Narrative at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville, which has generously donated space for the workshop.
