A Wednesday tradition at Oklawaha Brewing Company
The French Broad Valley Music Association: FBVMA jam session is focused on regional fiddle tunes and songs. Carol Rifkin and John Mitchell cohost weekly, bring an instrument to play or just enjoy the music, its free, kid friendly, donations encouraged.
Key Players are intermediate to advanced but beginners are most welcome and encouraged to attend to listen, learn/quietly play along. More experienced players sit in the inner circle and take turns choosing fiddle tunes or songs. Guests, families and kids are invited to listen and often sing along. This style of community play has been used to entertain and pass down music to kids for generations.
The French Broad Valley Music Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization formed to celebrate local musical heritage. “Our community. Our music. Our sense of place.”

Music, poetry, comedy – we’d love for you to share or just come be entertained, sip some great brews, and eat some hot boiled peanuts while supporting your local scene. See you at 7 pm tonight! Sign up starts at 6:30 pm

Totally Rad Trivia invades 12 Bones South every Wednesday evening for two hours of Pop Culture Trivia. Grab a beer, some BBQ and buckle in for some fun and challenging Trivia.

We will meet at the Wild Wings parking lot at 6pm and carpool (with masks) to see the lights at Lake Julian. Then we will return to Wild Wings for drinks/dinner. If you want to drive by yourself through the lights, you can do that. You will need to buy a $10 ticket online beforehand.
I started this group to bring together women in their 50’s who want to gather with other like-minded women. We’re dealing with a lot of issues at our age, and having other women who can understand us, support us, and laugh with us is so valuable! This group is open to any woman in her 50’s: married, single, gay, straight, black, white or any other color. We will gather, eat, drink, laugh and commiserate when necessary. I am hopeful many of us will make meaningful friendships along the way.

Whether battling valiantly from behind the enemy lines of his dive-bar-underground past or blowing the doors off sold-out theaters as he’s done with Drive-By Truckers for the last decade, Mike Cooley has proved his mettle time and time again. He’s rock & roll incarnate—Mick and Keith rolled into one impossibly cool, soul-howling, guitar rattlin’ ball of genuine unapologetic grit and swagger. At least that’s how it seems gazing up from the crowd at a packed DBT show.

Asheville restaurants are coupling their off-premise order options with a digital fundraising program so local charities like Coalition of Asheville Neighborhoods can stay active and funded this year.
Nearby fundraising partners for Coalition of Asheville Neighborhoods include Five Guys, MOD Pizza, & Dickeys Barbecue Pit, who will donate 15 – 20% of orders back to Coalition of Asheville Neighborhoods when you book a date to fundraise with them.

Because these events can include off-premise orders like take-out, delivery, drive thru or pick up, it’s easy for friends and Coalition of Asheville Neighborhoods supporters to safely participate via their preferred method.

Join us this Friday, December 18 for this fundraiser. All proceeds will be fully invested in our community. We believe and know the power of our people and that we ourselves will be the heroes of our communities.
Remember that if you cannot attend, another way to help us make it SUCCESS is by letting more people know.
Thank you in advance for all your support and you know that the only way for us to show our appreciation for your support is with action.
We know that together we will make our community a better place to live.
**Epic Raffle**
Even though we cannot party together, we pulled together an amazing raffle basket as a way to say THANK YOU to all who donate to any of the three nonprofits above in 2020. To enter, simply make a donation of any amount to one of the three nonprofits listed above. If you have already donated to these groups in 2020, fear not – we will enter you in the raffle, too! The winner will be contacted in January 2021.
Way back in March 2020, we selected the following nonprofits. Though we were unable to support them as we typically do (through heartfelt toasts and lively gatherings), we wanted to highlight them to you and share some news related to each one.
NC Glass Center
The NC Glass Center (NCGC) is dedicated to education, exploration, and collaboration in all forms of glass. If you are not familiar with this group, check out its website. Despite the impacts of the pandemic, NCGC has been able to adjust and maintain its outreach programs (socially-distanced, in-person programing for youth and veterans). Also, starting in December 2020, NCGC launched its Cup of the Month subscription.

Green Built Alliance – Blue Horizons Projects
Blue Horizons Project (BHP) was formed through the former Energy Innovation Task Force (EITF), a working group convened in April 2016 by the City of Asheville, Buncombe County, and Duke Energy. BHP was conceived to help achieve specific goals by promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy options throughout the region. BHP has a new Community Council seated and the meetings are open to the public.

Children First/ Communities in Schools of Buncombe County
Children First/Communities in Schools (CIS) of Buncombe County serves the community through direct services, education, and advocacy for family-friendly policies. Support from people in our community has made it possible for this group to serve students and families during this challenging year. This group has seen a greater need than ever before at the Family Resource Center at Emma Elementary, where curbside food box pick-up, clothing, school supplies, emergency financial assistance for rent and utility payments, and other supports are offered. Our Student Support Specialists work in five local schools and are currently serving students virtually and in-person, with proper health and safety measures in place.
