Falling, a solo exhibition of contemporary paintings by Michael Francis Reagan, opens at Grovewood Gallery on Saturday, June 9, with an artist’s reception from 2-5pm (free and open to the public). This show will feature acrylic paintings on canvas from Reagan’s popular Falling Series, inspired by a haunting memory of a childhood encounter with a mourning dove that had fallen from the sky. This exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, July 15, 2018.

Reagan received a degree in art and American literature and an MFA in painting from the University of Arkansas. Aside from his paintings, Reagan has established himself as one of American’s leading mapmakers. As a freelance illustrator, he has been employed by major publications such as National Geographic, The New Yorker, Smithsonian magazine, Travel and Leisure, and The New York Times. Reagan’s bird paintings and environmental maps continue to be commissioned by Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, The National Parks of America, and other conservation organizations.

If you haven’t explored Asheville’s newest craft areas lately, now’s the time to enjoy the explosive creativity of our artists and galleries. Hosted by the Center for Craft, you can enjoy our Summer of Glass happenings as artists and galleries expand on the spectacular Chihuly in the Gardens at the Biltmore Estate. Adding an insider’s visit to our most creative studios and gardens, the Center for Craft Tour includes exclusive nighttime tickets for Chihuly at Biltmore, a private visit to the home & garden of John Cram, Asheville’s “Founding Father” of our crafts scene, and exclusive introductions to top artists and galleries.

The Center for Craft Tour takes place from Thursday afternoon, June 14 to Friday evening, June 15, with an optional add-on day of Saturday, June 16. Cost is $295 per person with $85 for the additional day’s tour. We invite you to come with your friends and family on this exclusive craft adventure limited to 20 guests. Please choose the 2-day (Thursday & Friday) ticket option or the 3-day (Thursday, Friday & Saturday) ticket option below.

The tour will only accommodate 20 persons, so we encourage your early response. Friends and family are welcome.

An installation by Richard Devine in collaboration with visual artist Rachel Palmer.
This machine/modular system generates an infinite number of sounds, that evolve, grow and multiply into new organic forms. The piece will utilize a 4 channel quad speaker configuration. Each speaker will represent one audio element that will focus on various captured field recordings, synthesis, and manipulated digital audio fragments to make up an ever-changing music composition.

Mama Maisha and King Daddy’s Chicken and Waffles are teaming up to raise funds to promote healthy, safe pregnancies on June 21.  From 3PM until 10PM, 20% of all proceeds from food and beverage purchases will be donated to Mama Maisha.

Asheville physicians Dr. Reta Graham and Dr. Jeff Graham, in affiliation with local and regional non-governmental services, founded Mama Maisha, the first Safe Motherhood Intervention Project in the Mara region of Tanzania.  Mama Maisha works at the village level, providing essential prenatal care and delivery services, as well as education and resources to empower women to make wise decision regarding family planning, healthy pregnancies, and safe delivery for every child.

Farm Tour 10th Anniversary Celebration

On June 23 and 24, over 20 Appalachian Grown™  family farms will welcome visitors to their farms during ASAP’s highly anticipated Farm Tour. This fun and educational weekend offers the public a chance to experience firsthand how food is grown and raised in the mountains, sample farm-fresh products, and meet the community’s local producers.

Farm Tour passes are on sale now at asapconnections.org. Passes are $30 in advance; $40 the weekend of the tour. One pass admits an entire carload. The tour runs 12-5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

ASAP will share details about the 10th anniversary activities leading up to the tour on their Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds.
