I’m With Her: Sara Watkins – Sarah Jarosz – Aoife O’Donovan
Feb 19 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Peace Center

“They know how to gather round a microphone and sing directly from their heart to yours. Purity is the brilliance behind I’m With Her.” (NPR)

A band of extraordinary chemistry and exquisite musicianship, I’m With Her features Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, and Aoife O’Donovan. Collectively, the multi-Grammy® Award winners have released seven solo efforts, co-founded two seminal bands (Nickel Creek and Crooked Still), and contributed to critically-acclaimed albums from a host of esteemed artists.

I’m With Her formed at an impromptu show in 2014 at the Sheridan Opera House in Telluride, CO. Since then, they have garnered acclaim for their unique blend of instrumental interplay combined with their indelible harmonies, as The New York Times describes, “… that could be sweetly ethereal, or as tightly in tandem as country sibling teams like the Everly Brothers, or as hearty as mountain gospel.”

They released their debut album, See You Around (Rounder Records), in February. NPR instantly hailed the collection as “willfully open-hearted.” PopMatters praised the supergroup, stating that the “smashing collective… is a beautiful cohesion of tight harmonies, acoustic brilliance, and fresh songwriting.”

Daughters w/ Wolf Eyes, HIDE
Feb 19 @ 9:00 pm – Feb 20 @ 12:00 am
The Mothlight

Daughters
w/ Wolf Eyes Music?, HIDE
at The Mothlight
Tuesday, Feb. 19th
Doors 8pm
*Sold Out* No more tickets will be released for this show

By titling their 2018 fourth full-length and debut for Ipecac Records, You Won’t Get What You Want, Daughters send a crystal clear message. The quartet—Alexis Marshall [vocals], Nick Sadler [guitar], Jon Syverson [drums], and Sam Walker [bass]— follow the same internal compass that guided them to blur the lines of fickle heavy music sub-genres in the first place and quietly ignite a cult fervor typically reserved for grindhouse phenomena.

In fact, the best way to describe the philosophy and the sound of the quartet is simply: rock ‘n’ roll.

“I’ve always felt we decide what a Daughters record is,” Alexis states. “It’s not a sound or an aesthetic. Daughters is the name of our group and, we will do whatever we want to do with it.”

“We’ve changed our sound from record to record since the beginning,” says Nick. “We always had a very broad interest and taste in music across the spectrum. We are a rock band at heart, expect not to expect anything.”

There was a time expecting another Daughters record might’ve been met with disappointment. On the heels of their 2010 self-titled offering, the members engaged an indefinite hiatus. One fated dinner and two sold out hometown shows in Providence in 2013 saw them pick up where they had left off. Throughout the next four years the band recorded, eventually culling down a Dropbox of 150 ideas to the ten comprising You Won’t Get What You Want. In the end, if you want a Daughters record, you’ll get it here.

Asheville Music Hall

Tuesday Night Funk Jam – 11PM – Ca$h Donation$ – 21+

EVERY Tuesday at Asheville Music Hall!

Tuesday Night Funk Jam has been a huge part of Asheville’s vibrant music scene since 2008 and is #Asheville’s hottest weekly concert.

Tuesday Night Funk Jam is programmed and orchestrated by an evolved Legendary House Band with trombonist Derrick Lee Johnson at the helm.

At 11PM sharp, the Legendary House Band kicks off the night followed by opening up the stage to jam to our local community of musicians for an ‘Open Jam’.

While this is an amazing opportunity for musicians to network and refine their musical chops it is ALSO an event for the people who support our music scene and need a night to shake their hips to the best funk around town!

Regularly, nationally touring musicians, TONIGHT funk jam is going to be off the chain. We have Lee Allen (of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band) jumping back in with The Legendary House Band. Come out to the Asheville Music Hall tonight and help us kick off the first funk jam of 2019. We start at 11pm. #asheville #noplacelikehome #makemusiceveryday #mftnfj

*Assembly Required: Ashevile Designer Toy Expo
Feb 20 all-day
Highland Brewing Company

Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.

Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.

Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).

Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.
