American Novelist Thomas Wolfe (1900-1938)

Considered by many to be one of the giants of 20th-century American literature, Thomas Wolfe immortalized his childhood home in his epic autobiographical novel, Look Homeward, Angel. Wolfe’s colorful portrayal of his family, his hometown of “Altamont” Asheville, North Carolina, and “Dixieland” the Old Kentucky Home boardinghouse, earned the Victorian period house a place as one of American literature’s most famous landmarks.

House tours are offered daily at half past each hour. Last tour leaves at 4:30 pm.

Candlelight Christmas tours will be held December 2 and 3. Five tours will be offered each evening, at 5:00, 5:45, 6:30, 7:15 and 8:00 PM. Visitors will take part in a guided tour of the decorated 1880 farm house, visit with the Heritage Weavers and Fiber Artists, listen to live music by local students, and partake in hot cocoa and cookies.

Reservations and advance payment are required for the Candlelight Christmas evenings as space is limited. Under 5 free.

Experience what Christmas was like in the 19th Century, visit with the Heritage Weavers and Fiber Artists, listen to live music by local students, and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies.

The farm is owned and operated by the local school system. There are five tours each evening. Advance tickets are required as space is limited.

The public is invited to help shape the future of Western North Carolina’s most central civic space by attending one or more special engagement events for the Pack Square Plaza Visioning project in December.

  • 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 1:00 pm: Indoor presentations at Posana meeting room followed by guided outdoor site tours. Refreshments provided. Please arrive ten minutes early.
  • 10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Drop by Posana’s outdoor dining space anytime to pick-up a project brochure and provide some quick input on any of the project’s focus areas.
  • Interactive engagement and live music

Getting there: Parking is free at the City of Asheville’s parking lot at 17 Marjorie Street on weekdays after 5:00 pm and all weekend.

CHRIS GETHARD

Chris Gethard is a comedian, actor and author. He’s the host of the Beautiful/Anonymous podcast, which was recently adapted into a 4-part series streaming on Topic, the former host of The Chris Gethard Show, and wrote and starred in the HBO special Career Suicide. He also hosts the podcast New Jersey Is The World, a celebration of his home state.

In June 2021, Comedy Dynamics released Chris’ new comedy special, Chris Gethard: Half My Life, which is a hybrid tour documentary and stand-up special shot in a variety of DIY spaces and independent venues all over the country in 2019.

Chris has been seen on television shows such as Space Force, The Office, Broad City, Parks and Recreation, and Inside Amy Schumer. He’s also been seen in films such as The Other Guys, The Heat, Ghostbusters, Anchorman 2, and was one of the stars of Mike Birbiglia’s Don’t Think Twice. Chris can most recently be seen in the HBO Max documentary Class Action Park.

Chris is also the author of the books Weird NY, A Bad Idea I’m About to Do, and Lose Well, and and the founder of Planet Scum, an online comedy venue for the country’s best underground comedians.
