FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE
In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

In conjunction with Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) and AVLtoday, the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville (HCCA) is proud to announce an offer for 250 Buncombe County middle school and high school students to receive (1) free ticket each to attend Neil deGrasse Tyson: An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies – The Sequel on Monday, February 7 at 7:30 pm. In addition to the student tickets, parents and attending chaperones will be eligible to receive a discounted ticket. Tickets are available only at the HCCA Box Office during business hours on a limited basis.
STUDENT INFORMATION: As ticket quantities allow, eligible middle school and high school students will receive (1) free ticket to the event with an accompanying chaperone or adult with a limit of four students per adult. Accompanying adults may purchase a ticket up to a 50% discount. To pick up tickets, visit the HCCA Box Office between 10:00am and 4:00pm on Tuesday through Friday. Tickets are limited, so stop by the box office soon to take advantage of this offer.
Colleges and local university students may purchase tickets at a 30% discount with a valid student ID card and will be limited to 2 tickets per purchaser. Above offers are not valid on previously purchased tickets and are only available at the HCCA Box Office. No refunds/No Exchanges.
Known cool guy, Max Fine, is a comedian from Atlanta, GA, currently accepting hate mail in Brooklyn, New York. Highly praised for his colorful storytelling, Max taps into his own personal experiences for laughs. He performs all over the country and was once asked to leave the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has never taken acid but probably won’t say no if you offer it. Max is currently mansplaining Seinfeld theories to his roommate, David.

In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

Aaron Naylor is a stand-up comedian from Kansas City. His smart one-liners and quick wit on stage in-between the jokes have garnered him a lot of praise since he started doing comedy in 2013. He has performed at some of the best comedy festivals around, including San Francisco Sketchfest, 10,000 Laughs, 208, Asheville, and Limestone. He was also a finalist on season 8 of Comcast’s Trial by Laughter, won the 2017 Funniest Person in Wichita competition, and was named best local comic of 2021 by Kansas City Magazine. His stand-up has been featured on Men’s Humor, Someecards, and Comedy Juice. He has been called a “heavy-hitting superstar” by Maria Bamford and has opened for Sam Tallent, Shane Mauss, Todd Barry, and Ron Funches.

Justin is a professional Piano Bar Entertainer and Beatboxer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He currently works for Norwegian Cruise Lines as a Piano Bar Entertainer. With over 16 years experience as a vocal percussionist (beatboxer), Justin pushes the boundaries of the human voice and captivates audiences with his abilities. As a Piano Bar Entertainer, Justin puts on a high energy show with improvisational roasts and toasts, spontaneous beatboxing, and sing alongs!

FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE
In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

The Queer Comedy Party is a night celebrating many of the talented queer comedians in Asheville and all over the country. All the performers are queer identifying but the audience doesn’t have to be. This month’s headliner is Storhm Artiste from Atlanta!!!
Storhm Artiste is a comedian, writer, actress, singer, host, etc. She writes and creates scripts, as well as ghostwrites material for other comedians and has performed stand up comedy for over 7 years. Storhm is a touring comedian and has performed with many celebrity comedians; Marlan Wayans, Chris Tucker, Viva A. Fox, etc.
Storhm has performed on legendary stages all over the country; Improv, Stardome, Uptown Comedy Corner, The Laugh Factory, etc. She a resident comedian, host and headliner at many comedy clubs across the country and has been seen on Roku TV headlining for the Late Night Comedy Show.

Stand-up comedian, writer, and actor, Fortune Feimster, is one of the busiest women working today. She first became known as a writer and panelist on E’s hit show Chelsea Lately, and then starred as a series regular on The Mindy Project for Hulu and Champions for NBC. She has gone on to have many guest appearances on TV shows including Claws, 2 Broke Girls, Workaholics, Glee, Dear White People, and Tales of the City, as well as recurring roles on Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q and CBS’s Life In Pieces.
She’s had memorable roles in the movies Office Christmas Party, Social Animals, and Father of the Year. She also recently voiced the role of Evelyn on The Simpsons, she’s the voice of Brenda on Bless the Harts for Fox, and she voices Ava on Summer Camp Island for the Cartoon Network.

FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE
In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

In conjunction with Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) and AVLtoday, the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville (HCCA) is proud to announce an offer for 250 Buncombe County middle school and high school students to receive (1) free ticket each to attend Neil deGrasse Tyson: An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies – The Sequel on Monday, February 7 at 7:30 pm. In addition to the student tickets, parents and attending chaperones will be eligible to receive a discounted ticket. Tickets are available only at the HCCA Box Office during business hours on a limited basis.
STUDENT INFORMATION: As ticket quantities allow, eligible middle school and high school students will receive (1) free ticket to the event with an accompanying chaperone or adult with a limit of four students per adult. Accompanying adults may purchase a ticket up to a 50% discount. To pick up tickets, visit the HCCA Box Office between 10:00am and 4:00pm on Tuesday through Friday. Tickets are limited, so stop by the box office soon to take advantage of this offer.

FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE
In 1937, a group of struggling performers, led by Robroy Farquhar, organized themselves as the Vagabond Players. The Vagabonds worked in a variety of places over the course of three years, and in 1940 found themselves in the Blue Ridge region of Western North Carolina. The local and tourist community welcomed them with open arms when they presented their first summer season of plays in a 150-year-old grist mill they converted into The Old Mill Playhouse at Highland Lake. So successful was that summer, they returned in 1941. After WWII, the Vagabond Players reorganized came back to the region and opened a playhouse in nearby Lake Summit. The Lake Summit Playhouse thrived during the post-war years and soon the Vagabond Players were looking for a larger and permanent home. In 1952, the troupe of performers, and a newly formed board of directors made an offer to buy an 8-acre lot in the Village of Flat Rock. This new home made the Vagabonds “locals” and a rented big top gave birth to Flat Rock Playhouse. As the beautiful Western Carolina region continued to grow, so did the Playhouse and in 1961, by Act of the North Carolina General Assembly, Flat Rock Playhouse was officially designated The State Theatre of North Carolina. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season of plays including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse’s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series; a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program; and Studio 52, year-round classes and workshops in theatre and film for students from kindergarten through adults. Flat Rock Playhouse now hosts over 98,000 patrons annually and is a significant contributor to the local economy and the Arts in North Carolina.

The popular Music on the Rock® series, Studio 52 Family Programming, and a brand new Black Box series round out the 2022 season and mark a renewed beginning for FRP after a long pandemic shutdown.
