Nashville-based singer-songwriter Tim Easton‘s 14th CD Exposition, is a a vibrant, personal testimony from a songwriter that demands to be heard.
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Tim Easton takes his wandering troubadour persona pretty seriously. For his latest project, Exposition, he hit the road to record in several musically significant locations: the Okfuskee Historical Society in Okemah, Oklahoma, where Woody Guthrie was born; the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, where Robert Johnson made his historic recordings back in 1936, and the Shack Up Inn in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Muddy Waters’ birthplace.
The result is a 10-song collection of personal songs that look both inward and outward. The former include first-person narratives such as “Saint Augustine,” “Sail Away Sailors” and the heart-wrenching “New Year’s Day.” The latter are showcases for Easton’s well-known activism, including the calls to action “If You Want Something Done Right” and “Don’t Spectate; Participate.”
Exposition is very much a solo project. Easton earns credits for writing, performance, recording and production, and the only collaborator credited – for handclaps and backwards piano – is his young daughter. Easton accompanies his gritty vocals with his usual excellent guitar, as well as bass, mandolin and piano, and the production is clean and sharp. While this collection doesn’t

Blake Christiana and Rick Bugel are the founding members for the band, Yarn. That’s certainly no small accomplishment, especially for a band that spent two years honing their chops during a Monday night residency at the famed Kenny’s Castaway in New York’s Greenwich Village. In effect, it allowed them to rehearse onstage, mostly in front of audiences that often ranged in size from five to fifty people on any given Monday night.

“The guitar is not just an instrument in the hands of Jacob Johnson – it’s his soul-mate.” – No Depression
Part virtuoso and part storyteller, you might say that Jacob Johnson does with a guitar what Gene Kelly did with dance. Although his songwriting has won awards and his guitar-playing has put him on stage with Tommy Emmanuel and Phil Keaggy, his ability as an entertainer is what has won fans throughout the southeast. He refers to himself as “a ham that just wants to be on stage” but he’s much more than that. Jacob is an amazingly talented guitarist and songwriter which, combined with a bit of a personality, makes for a wildly impressive stage performance.

Doom Flamingo is a six-headed synthwave beast with a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde element to the songwriting. Top Gun guitar riffs and Miami Beach poolside lounge-vibes, are all at once contrasted with darksynth sounds eerily reminiscent of old John Carpenter films. The cast of talented musicians in this project came together organically through friendships and past collaborations in their hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. The sextet features bassist Ryan Stasik of the prolific rock group Umphrey’s McGee alongside a cast of powerhouse musicians.
The Get Right Band’s unplugged show from The Grey Eagle will also be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person or miss out on tickets. The stream will be available at 8 PM on The Grey Eagle’s Facebook page, IAMAVL.com, and youtube.com/user/iamavl.
“The Get Right Band are the type of performers that you just know will break out. Their songs are infectious and take you immediately to a place. The lyrics are smart and bear weight.” -The Huffington Post
The Get Right Band is a psychedelic indie rock power trio from Asheville, NC. They are a band focused on following their muses to honest self-expression, to whatever excites them and pushes them into unexplored territory. The Get Right Band proudly carries the torch for a long line of genre-bending power trios from Cream to The Jimi Hendrix Experience to The Police to Violent Femmes to Primus to Green Day to Nirvana to Sublime. It’s the space between the notes, the rawness and the maneuverability, that makes a power trio, well, so damn powerful.

Nikki Lane’s latest album Highway Queen, saw the young Nashville singer emerge as one of country and rock’s most gifted songwriters. Co-produced by Lane and fellow singer-songwriter, Jonathan Tyler, this emotional tour-de-force was recorded at Matt Pence’s Echo Lab studio in Denton, Texas as well as at Club Roar with Collin Dupuis in Nashville, Tennessee. Blending potent lyrics, unbridled blues guitars, and vintage Sixties country-pop swagger, Lane’s new music will resonate as easily with Lana Del Rey and Jenny Lewis fans as those of Neil Young and Tom Petty.
