MUSIC
It’s our favorite night of the month: the community swing jam led by Annie Erbsen! If you are a musician (everyone welcome, from beginners to professionals), join the house band on stage to play some of the most swingin’ dance tunes from history. You can download charts at http://annieerbsen.com/music/jam/. Note that this is an acoustic jam, but we do have mics available for vocalists and quiet instruments.
BLUES
Band finished and you’re not done dancing? You’re in luck… stick around for our blues after party! Continue dancing to DJ’d music until the bar kicks us out. $2 suggested donation for those coming just in time for the blues.
FOOD: Feeling peckish? The bar has a small selection of vegan goodies to help keep your stamina up! Ask a bartender for more details. Buncombe Botanicals and Sowing Ceeds will also be out their with their rotating selection of freshly made, allergy friendly, plant medicine infused goodies including banana based “Nicecream”, baked goods, and savory bites!
CLASSES
7pm: Swing Outs w/ Jean & Carolina
It’s everyone’s favorite lindy hop staple, the swing out. Whether you think you know enough already, or you’ve seen people swinging out on the dance floor and want to give it a shot, this is the class for you. We will work on the fundamentals of the swing out, break it down and piece it back together, and finish off with some fun variations. For this class, you should be very comfortable with basic 8-count footwork and connection, but don’t worry about bringing a partner. We will rotate throughout the class to give everyone a lot of practice.
“Continuing” classes are for those dancers who have cemented the basics of the dance being featured that specific month. This includes knowing (and being able to execute cleanly and consistently) basic footwork and lead/follow skills for that dance. Some continuing classes may require no advance knowledge of a dance. This will be noted in the the class description.
*******************
8 pm: Charleston/Jitterbug w/ Jean & Karolina
This month we will be doing beginner partnered Charleston, which is perfect for faster songs and a great way to start dancing. Focusing mostly on side-by-side 30s style, we will also add in some jitterbug steps and turns to give your dancing a little more variety and swing. No partner necessary! You’ll get to dance with everyone.
“Core” lessons stress the fundamentals of swing dancing for beginning dancers. Lessons rotate monthly to focus on a different kind of swing dance (6 Count Lindy, 8 Count Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, etc.). Because good fundamentals are hard to develop in one month, we recommend repeating Core lessons (on the same topic) to help develop the solid foundation you’ll need in continuing classes. Core lessons are also great for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to “get back to basics” or learn a different dancing role (lead vs. follow).

GIFT CERTIFICATES
Do you want to buy a gift certificate for our classes as a gift, or to pre-pay for a block of classes for yourself? You can purchase gift certificates at the door at our weekly dance! They are $40 for a block of 4, and a great way to dive into the fun world of dance.

“Country Music,” Ken Burns’s new PBS documentary series, won’t premiere nationally until September, but Burns’s co-producers Dayton Duncan and Julie Dunfey will host a special preview screening and discussion at UNC Asheville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, in the Highsmith Student Union’s beautiful new Blue Ridge Room.
The screening is free and open to everyone but space is limited, so tickets are required. UNC Asheville is one of only 30 sites nationally to host advance premiere screenings of Country Music.
Duncan and Dunfey will screen exclusive clips of the 16-hour documentary series, “Country Music,” and then will answer audience questions. The film, which chronicles the history of the uniquely American art form, features many North Carolina artists and their stories, from early spiritual music, Celtic mountain music through notable stars like Rhiannon Giddens, Kathy Mattea, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, among many others. Trailers for the film are available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p80gOBTWASc&list=PLzkQfVIJun2I1nBMl6PTyv4vH-3NfoN0n.
Country Music premieres nationally on PBS stations and locally on UNC-TV, Sunday, Sept. 15 through Wednesday, Sept. 18, and Sunday, Sept. 22 through Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 8-10 p.m.

Every Tuesday evening Music Hall presents our Tuesday Bluegrass Sessions. The sessions are hosted each week by a local bluegrass musician with friends or a band. Following the host band, Bluegrass musicians from the Asheville area gather on stage to jam in an open session. Occasionally, we feature a touring band that will perform prior to the open session and help co-host the jam. It’s always a great evening of music and community.

Andrew Duhon & Lydia Luce: Follow The River Down Tour at The Grey Eagle
https://www.facebook.com/events/396304244247760/
Andrew Duhon is a songwriter from New Orleans, a teller of stories with an undeniable voice, weighted and soulful. Duhon has released 3 recordings, the latest of which, ‘The Moorings’, was nominated for a Grammy in 2014 for ‘Best Engineered Album’. He has toured solo for much of his career, and that troubadour element is certainly present, an usher of modern day folklore. His current touring group is a trio with upright bassist, Myles Weeks and drummer, Jim Kolacek. Since recording ‘The Moorings’ Duhon has been crossing the American landscape, the thoughtful colors and harmonies of the trio breathing a new musicality and direction into Duhon’s songwriting traditions.

Lydia Luce was born into a musical family, her mother, a gifted organ and piano player, and her brother, a cellist. Luce’s first instrument was viola, and by age 13 she was performing in her mother’s orchestra. Her debut full-length album Azalea, produced by Jordan Lehning and Skylar Wilson, combines her classical training with Americana and folk influences for a collection that feels authentic and comfortable in a way that only lifelong talent can create. Popmatters writes of the debut release that the tunes are, “carefully composed without the sort of pomp that we may have come to expect from classically-trained performers from musical families. Luce forgoes the usual pageantry for something organic and unique that comes from the heart.”
With this compilation of songs born from a collaboration in Nashville, TN, Luce was able to combine what she knew about instrumentation with the fruits of new self-discoveries. Luce says, “Playing strings has been a huge part of my life. On this album, I got to record viola and guitar on my tunes with people that I truly admire. I’m very proud of what we’ve created.” As she continues to write and record, her Spotify streams are climbing to over 17 million and counting, with plans to release an Azalea EP of instrumental and live versions in May of this year.
Classical Guitar Performances by Andy Jurik and Christopher Crecelius, accompanied by the beautiful vocals of Rachel Hansbury.
Andy (Dizzy) Jurik and Chris Crecelius present both Traditional and Modern compositions for the classical guitar, highlighting their works which include their arrangements of “Danza Paraguya” & “Estudio en Si Menor” – composer Barios, “Big Brother” – composer Stephane Wremble, “Bistro Fada” known recently from Woody Allen’s movie “Midnight in Paris”, Bach, and more. Many evenings will include a special performance by vocalist Rachel Hansbury, singing Sous le Ciel – composer Ernesto Cordero, a special Carter Family tune, and classic Edith Piaf, accompanied by Andy Jurik. $5 at the door.
A cheese plate and lite bite menu is available, including a featured “Cheese, Wine & Chocolate” special each Tuesday.

The Open Jam at Noble Kava welcomes players of all kinds to come explore, push boundaries, step out of comfort zones, gain experience, and meet and play with musicians from Asheville and beyond. There are no genre restrictions, as long as it’s not too loud for the room. All genders and all peoples are welcome (also well behaved animals are welcome, too).
We provide full backline–drum kit, amps, piano, keys, and PA with mics/inputs. The jam is hosted by the house band, the Kavalactones, who play for the first half hour or so, and then the jam opens up. There’s no list. Just show up and let us know you want to play. We recommend bringing your own instrument (guitar, bass, musical saw, ect.), unless you play keys, or sticks if you play kit.
This is a weekly opportunity for experienced musicians to get together, talk, and share ideas in a living room-like setting. No alcohol is served, but players are invited to try kava at the two-fer-one rate, and kavalactone elixir shots are $1 off anytime the Kavalactones are playing at the bar. Bula!
Start from the beginning and learn the fundamentals of spins, climbs, and sexy dance moves on the static and spin pole! This concentrated eight week series is great for building strength and a quicker understanding of the mechanics, timing, and grace that is helpful for pole dancing.
We will focus on the static pole for the first 6 weeks and move to an introduction of the beauty of spin pole for the last two.
Pole dancing is fun, an amazing workout, and sensually expressive. Enjoy learning with the same group of students each week who are all brand new to pole.
Bring heels because they are fun to dance in and a lot less intimidating than they seem!

Tuesday Night Funk Jam – 11PM – Ca$h Donation$ – 21+
EVERY Tuesday at Asheville Music Hall!
Tuesday Night Funk Jam has been a huge part of Asheville’s vibrant music scene since 2008 and is #Asheville’s hottest weekly concert.
Tuesday Night Funk Jam is programmed and orchestrated by an evolved Legendary House Band with trombonist Derrick Lee Johnson at the helm.
At 11PM sharp, the Legendary House Band kicks off the night followed by opening up the stage to jam to our local community of musicians for an ‘Open Jam’.
While this is an amazing opportunity for musicians to network and refine their musical chops it is ALSO an event for the people who support our music scene and need a night to shake their hips to the best funk around town!
Regularly, nationally touring musicians, TONIGHT funk jam is going to be off the chain. We have Lee Allen (of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band) jumping back in with The Legendary House Band. Come out to the Asheville Music Hall tonight and help us kick off the first funk jam of 2019. We start at 11pm. #asheville #noplacelikehome #makemusiceveryday #mftnfj

The Literacy Council of Buncombe County will hold “Beauty and the Bee,” an adult Spelling Bee, on April 3, 2019 at The Mothlight in West Asheville. Beginning at 6 pm, fifteen teams of three adults each will compete in the themed, spirited, and zany word challenge.
While the word list is challenging to even the most advanced spellers, this event is not a traditional, stilted spelling bee. Audience members are encouraged to cheer on their favorite teams and can even purchase opportunities to cheat on the spellers’ behalf. Spellers and audience members are encouraged to wear costumes in homage to this year’s beauty-pageant event theme: Beauty and the Bee.
Spelling Bee teams are fielded by local businesses, non-profits, community associations, colleges, book clubs and friends. This year’s teams include the 2018 winning team, Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café; the 2017 highest fundraising team, Chestnut/Corner Kitchen; and more.
Funds raised by the Beauty and the Bee Spelling Bee support the Literacy Council of Buncombe County’s programs that provide basic literacy and English language services to 2,200 people in Buncombe County.
Join the Creation Care Alliance Project Drawdown Eco Challenge Team. The 21-day challenge runs from April 3-24 and makes a big collective and individual impact as we care for creation.

Both regular attendees and newcomers are welcome, and the venue is kid-friendly.
As always, this event is all about helping those with an interest in real estate and investment build relationships within the industry and make meaningful connections. We encourage all attendees to bring at least one friend and one question to the event .
The event will run from 5:30 to 6:30pm, but the earlier you get there the better – we’ll cover the first beer for our first ten arrivals! Our goal is for everyone to walk away with a new connection/relationship that is going to help you take the next step forward in your real estate journey.
Shoot us a message and let us know what that step might be so we can do our best to make that introduction on Wednesday. Or maybe it is a question that you have, let us know so we can try to either answer it ourselves or introduce you to the person who has the answer.
