Natural Born Leaders is a fresh and appetizing indie- Rock, funk, HipHop band formed in the mountains of Asheville North Carolina in 2016. Their music is a melodic representation of many different genres of music, past, present, and current. NBL’s lyrics are
real, heart felt, and driven by love and fear, and at many times a conversation between those emotions. The at times intense grooves carry with them hooks that’ll get stuck in your brain for days to come. NBLs rhythm section is hard hitting, funky, and tight. The band is cut from the type of stuff that moves peoples feet. The tunes display heavy links from jazz, blues, Afro-Latin, and
Metal. NBL was featured on NPR’s weekend edition with Scott Simon after garnering the attention of the judges of Bob Boilens Tiny Desk Contest in June of 2018. NBL has since been consistently featured in media and touring locally, regionally, and nationally.
The first recorded studio EP by Natural Born Leaders, “About time” is currently available for purchase and streaming across all major outlets. The band is currently in the process of recording their second EP with producer Patrick Doyle at Echo Mountain recording studio in Asheville, NC set for a release in the spring of
2019.
If you are in the search of music that will make you think, cry, feel, or
dance. NBL is for you. NBL is a family and at their shows you become a part of that magic dynamic. NBL shows are a force to be reckoned with!

Smoky Mtn News Presents the “Pour 40 Tour” at Boojum Brewing
*Hosted by Garret K. Woodward
The “Pour 40 Tour” is designed to bring music together with the thriving craft beer industry in our region. Throughout the course of this tour, we’ll be performing at 7 of our favorite breweries. Every week, we’ll be bringing you behind the scenes Facebook/Instagram Live episodes featuring a full tour of the facilities and a tasting of their choice brews. These episodes will air mid week throughout (dates/times of episodes to be posted separately), and at the conclusion of the Tour, we will have sampled and given our review of 40 different craft beers. We hope to give our fans a behind the scenes look at not only our band, but also each brewery and the people/stories behind them. We top it all off with a rawkin show at each brewery on the corresponding weekend!
Porch 40 formed in 2012 at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. They play a style of highly Progressive Funk Rock that has won over an eclectic audience everywhere they perform. Incorporating elements from R&B, Jazz, and Funk with the best of the Rock, Progressive, Indie and Metal, they cross over genres with ease.

Psymbionic
Cresting the modern wave of electronic producers, Psymbionic creates aural experiences that explore the range of multi-tempo Bass Music within an influential and dynamic culture. With an ear for situational relevance, Psymbionic enjoys turning non-traditional sound design and infectious rhythms into dancefloor heat, while also maintaining his history in the downtempo, emotive side of the electronic sound.
John Burcham has been moving bodies and turning heads as Psymbionic for several years in all corners of the USA, playing with acts such as Bassnectar, STS9, Big Gigantic, ill.Gates, Excision, EOTO, and Tipper. His passion and innovation in the music world are showcased through album releases on Muti Music and MalLabel, as well as in his role as label manager for the popular Electronic imprint Gravitas Recordings.
In a live show context, Psymbionic confronts mixes that are limited to the scope of the build and release, avoiding an industry epidemic of drop-monotony that overpowers the flow of music. Burcham seeks to prove that there are more powerful influences in moving a crowd than simple tension, providing an interwoven dynamic that relies on the strength of his blend, rather than the sole force or familiarity of the apex.
Psymbionic’s theory of music is a journey that doesn’t visit the same place twice, building excitement for what’s next not because you can anticipate it, but because you’ve never been there before.

Frequent
“Frequent” is the sum of my creative output – an ongoing experiment into what is possible with sound. Be it movie sound effects or natural soundscapes, the sonic realm has always fascinated me. Ultimately though, electronic music has inspired me to become an artist from day one, and even as I continue to explore new sounds and spaces, heavy bass music will always be at my roots. For years I have been working to push my sound design and composition skills in an attempt to leave my mark on the “neuro” community – a niche genre with heavy emphasis on impressive bass design and technical arrangements. After countless hours working with this type of music, Frequent finally has its own defined sound, one that I only intend to push even further. Distinct reese basses, compelling soundscapes, immense layering and meticulous arrangements are the key components to my compositions, and each of these elements is something I strive to expand on with every release. – Frequent (Nolan Petruska)

MELD
MELD’s music is an eclectic soulful journey. Drawing inspiration from her two favorite genres, Electronica and Classic Soul, she has created a unique fusion of musical elements. People have likened her performance to that of a “modern day” Janis Joplin meets Janelle Monae.
In January of 2017, MELD released her debut EP “H.U.R.T.” (Healing Under Rising Truth.) The 5-song work was produced by Matt Harris of Livetronica band, Zoogma, and can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal, YouTube and more. Her single “Easy On The Game” received nods from Nylon Magazine, BTRToday, No Country for New Nashville, YabYum Arts, Syracuse New Times, and several other publications- ultimately landing the single on Hype Machine. The “H.U.R.T.” remix album is set to be released in March 2018, with collaborations and remixes by Felice, Y-Diz, Smurphio, SAER, Daniel Simmons, Spaceship Earth, Waterchild, and Batavia. In previous solo projects, MELD (Melanie Dewey,) has had the opportunity to share the stage with jam bands Zoogma, Papadosio, and Brothers Past.

Sister Ivy
Sister Ivy fuses Neo-soul, Jazz, R&B, and Rock elements to carry poetic musings to the listener’s ear on a groove-able beat. Lyrical content spans a wide spectrum, emotional states ranging from sweet infatuation to righteous anger; content ranging from entomological curiosity to suspicions of an impending apocalypse. However, no matter how dim the story seems, there is always a glimmer of hope hidden…somewhere. The sonic vehicle on which the lyrics travel is twisted and expansive, with influences spanning from Badu and Glasper to Radiohead and Pink Floyd.
Listen at your own risk. Sister Ivy may attempt to challenge your core beliefs or (gasp) move your feet a little.

1st Mounted Meeting of 2019! We are very happy to welcome Tayler Dokter as the instructor.
Taylor Dockter, MPA, MS, CPS, is a lifelong equestrian who believes in creating a safe, positive and encouraging environment for both the horse and rider. Originally from Atlanta, GA, Taylor started her riding career in hunters before being introduced to eventing. While at the University of Georgia, she served as a teaching assistant for both riding and theory classes. These experiences led to the development of her exercise riding business she ran for 8 years before relocating to the Upstate. Taylor believes in a correct and fair approach to every horse. With a background that includes fox hunting Arabians and helping reiners transition to dressage, she loves working with horses of all backgrounds and breeds.
