Haywood County Motorcycle Parade and Toy Run
Nov 10 @ 10:00 am – 2:30 pm

Yount Addresses Canton Board

I had a great meeting with the Canton Board of Aldermen and Mayor last evening (10/12/2018). Their response and very positive comments about the parade, the participants, and the functioning of the event was very gratifying. I let the Board know that through 26 years we have raised $182,600 plus untold numbers of new toys. Our inaugural parade was in 1992. We left Dixon’s Little Boy with a grand total of 69 bikes. The trip to Bogart’s in Waynesville was fun and scary due to it being our first effort. Since 2002, we have averaged 832 bikes with some 60% being ridden 2 up. We look forward to this year’s event on Saturday November 10th. Registration will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 11:45 a.m. with the parade beginning to move at High Noon. Participants should be ready for some new parking details as there have been some changes around the Town Hall since last year. I’ll post more details as we get closer to the event. See you on November 10th!

In Times of Seismic Sorrows
Nov 10 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Center for Craft

When reflecting on the current state of the environment, it seems that we have entered into times of seismic sorrows. Carbon emissions, water pollution, fracking, and changing climate patterns all point to a troubling reality with serious consequences for human and non-human populations. Through weavings, installations, sculpture, and print, artists Rena Detrixhe and Tali Weinberg (Tulsa, OK) explore the complex relationship between humans and the planet, offering insights, expressing grief, and creating space for resilience and change.

In Time of Seismic Sorrows is curated by Marilyn Zapf and organized by the Center for Craft. The Center for Craft is supported in part by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
