Asheville Holiday Parade, presented by Bojangles
Nov 17 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Asheville Downtown Association

The Asheville Holiday Parade, presented by Bojangles of WNC, rolls, dances and marches through downtown Asheville on Saturday, November 17 beginning at 11am. The parade features nearly 100 entries including marching bands, dance and cheer squads, youth sports, nonprofits and businesses. This year’s parade theme is “Appalachian Holiday.”

2018 Grand Marshal is hiker, author, speaker and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Jennifer Pharr Davis. In 2011, Davis completed the Appalachian Trail (2,185 miles) in 46 days, 11 hours and 20 minutes, making her the fastest A.T. hiker until the record was broken again in 2015. In total, she’s hiked more than 14,000 miles of long-distance trails on six continents — adventures that informed her seven books, numerous articles and interviews, and speeches on making the wilderness accessible to all. This Ashevillean served as board member for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and an ambassador for the American Hiking Society.

Parade entries include a little something for everyone with decorated floats, adoptable pets from area rescue organizations, our Honored Veterans float, live music, performances, and of course, Santa Claus, brought to you by the NC Arboretum’s Winter Lights.

The parade begins on Biltmore Avenue at South Charlotte Street and the official performance stop is located at the corner of Biltmore and Patton Avenues. The parade ends on Patton Avenue at South French Broad.

2018 sponsors include: Bojangles of WNC, The City of Asheville, The North Carolina Arboretum’s Winter Lights, Apple Tree Honda, Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts, Kudzu Brands, Aloft Asheville Downtown, WLOS ABC 13, My40, Mix 96.5, Star 104.3, The 828.com, 99.9 Kiss Country, Asheville Scene, Asheville Citizen-Times and Asheville Color & Imaging.

12th Annual Lynn Boggess Exhibition At The Haen Gallery
Nov 17 @ 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
The Haen Gallery

The Haen Gallery, located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, is proud to present their 12th Annual Lynn Boggess Exhibition. The exhibit will run through November.

Lynn Boggess is one of the most unique and noteworthy American landscape painters of the 21st Century. He resides in West Virginia, a state whose diverse mountains, forests, and rivers provide abundant inspiration for the artist’s plein air paintings. In place of brushes he uses palette knives and trowels to thickly layer the broad sweeping strokes and exquisite fine detail that capture all the colors of the seasons in rushing rivers, snow covered hillsides, and thick forest vegetation. Mr. Boggess’ work is recognized internationally for its incredible three-dimensional texture, rendered solely in oils. These remarkable paintings combine elements of Abstract Expressionism and Photorealism to create a style that is totally unique and original.

The Haen Gallery in Asheville is located at 52 Biltmore Avenue between City Bakery and Chestnut. There is a parking garage at the Aloft hotel across the street, another garage just up the hill, as well as street parking.

The gallery is open Monday through Saturday 11am-6pm & Sunday 12-5pm. For more information: 828-254-8577 or www.thehaengallery.com. Gallery contacts: Chris Foley, Director; Leslie Logemann, Gallery Manager.

With locations in Asheville and Brevard, The Haen Gallery offers the work of established artists whose distinctive and unique style sets it apart from ordinary and imitative efforts. Visit the website at thehaengallery.com.

The Core Connection with Joe Taft
Nov 17 @ 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Geek out on the subtle details of core alignment and the breath with the super geeky, fun yoga teachers, Deirdre Smith Gilmer and Joe Taft. You often hear in a yoga class, “Breathe into your belly”. What does that actually mean and how does your breath impact your diaphragm, core muscles, pelvic floor and overall health?

This workshop is an opportunity to play with the particulars of the most common alignment (and misalignments) of the pelvic floor and the diaphragm. In this workshop, you will gain awareness of the way these two areas dance together, and how their functions affect your core strength. We will discuss how our posture and movement patterns directly shape our attitudes, breathing, and overall well-being; and how to recognize when these patterns are contributing to our aches and pains, or creating healthier habits. Deirdre and Joe believe that when you cultivate awareness and deeply feel your body, you gain a profound sense of presence and that’s what we consider geeking out is all about! Please join us for new insights about breathing consciously with your diaphragm while using core muscles and keeping the pelvic floor in mind! All levels welcome.
