Since his childhood, Leo’s world has been dominated by one beautiful woman’s obsession with him. Raised in a small Texas town, educated at a large university, and devastated after his first “normal” relationship fails, the young scholar is no match for his aunt’s desire to use him for her own gratification.
With little hope for normalcy, Leo resigns himself to a life of pretense and lies. His charade increasingly leads him to professional failures, withdrawal from normal relationships, and spiraling emotional dependence on his aunt, with whom he lives in exile from the rest of his family. Together they act out a quiet tragedy in small rental apartments, doing temp jobs in a succession of obscure towns. Then, already in his late thirties, he meets Janet, a grade school teacher in the tiny North Carolina town of Cannon Shoals, and what had seemed impossible happens. He falls in love.

Open Mic Night at The Grey Eagle
https://www.facebook.com/events/2292708547408380/
Join us for a poignant film about how Medicare informed the Civil Rights Revolution. This documentary will be followed by a discussion with community leaders who are working hard to create a more equitable society.
Before Medicare was introduced in 1965, disparities in access to hospital care were dramatic. Fewer than 50% of the nation’s hospitals served black and white patients equally. The South was especially challenged, as one in three hospitals would not admit African-Americans even for emergencies. But by using the carrot of Medicare dollars, the federal government virtually ended the practice of racially segregated health care. The powerful book and documentary THE POWER TO HEAL illustrates how Movement leaders and grass-roots volunteers pressed and worked with the federal government to achieve justice and fairness for African-Americans. The documentary will be followed with a community discussion with local leaders to explore these historical issues and reflect upon current day challenges.
This event is free and heavy appetizers will be provided.
This event is presented by AARP North Carolina and co-sponsored by YWCA of Asheville and Asheville Buncombe Institute of Parity Achievement (ABIPA).

Adding a Southeast destination for designer toy makers and collectors, *Assembly Required brings designer, bootleg and art toy artists from around the country, to present and sell their work.
Asheville’s premiere designer toy expo, *Assembly Required, is presented by Unboxing Asheville, Morgan’s Comic’s, 103.3 Asheville FM and Appalachian Pinball Museum. Focusing on this artistic movement, designer toys are a form of lowbrow pop art. These toy makers pull inspiration from a variety of subversive segments of culture, as well as subcultural elements, including (but not limited to) comics, tattooing, street art, and everything related to toys of the 60’s through the 80’s.
Echoing production methods of traditional toy manufacturers, designer toys are usually intended to be displayed as collectibles, rather than to be played with. Toy makers mediums range from resin to vinyl, from plastic to plush; with molding, and production techniques such as kitbash, sofubi and bootleg (recently coined ‘Artisanal Action Figure’, by New York Times writer, Rich Juzwiak [11/23/18]). (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/23/style/bootleg-toys-action-figures.html).
Juzwiak interviews such artists as the Sucklord and Killer Bootlegs, both of whom will be present at *Assembly Required.

Our iconic RiverWalk Trail in Chimney Rock Village doesn’t stay this inviting on its own. We have to maintain it regularly with limited financial and human resources.
So, if you love this trail as much as we do, and you can spare an hour or two, grab your gloves, shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows. We’ll meet at the entrance to the RiverWalk Trail in Chimney Rock Village (next to the entrance of Bubba O’Leary’s) this Tuesday, Feb. 26th at 9 am to buff up this beautiful, but fragile recreation spot. We realize short notice, but several things fell together very recently where we’ll be able to use some of the equipment from the Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department. So, if you can make it, please consider helping us work on the trail for an hour or two – whatever time you can spare is genuinely appreciated!

5Rhythms is a movement journey of unraveling, unwinding and embodying the thread that connects us all. Soften as your soul borrows your head, hands, feet, hips… giving you an internal shower and sending you back out in this unpredictably magical world with a renewed lightness of being; knowing more clearly what you’ve always known….but perhaps, temporarily, forgot. ♥ $10-20 Energy Exchange. ***Please do not Park in the French Broad Food Co-Op lots!! Park in the small lot across from the Orange Peel, the LaZoom Lot to the left of the FBFC or the ALoft Parking Lot (all the lots have a small parking fee).

We are supporting Bounty & Soul’s work providing healthy food for our local community by providing them with metal silverware for their food sampling events. These wiill prevent the wastage and expense of disposable spoons and forks.
Bounty & Soul provide samples of delicious plant based foods and education for those members of the community who are receiving donated healthy food. Rather than use plastic spoons and forks for the demonstrations and sampling, Bounty & Sould are finding ways to be more green and sustainable, and we want to help.
We are aiming to collect 80 sets of metal or durable bamboo small spoons and forks through the month of February. Please bring washed used or new silverware to our store and enjoy our thanks and a browse and a cup of fair trade coffee.
