SAGA members also receive discounts on select home grower programs, including Homegrown Dreams and the Gardening Series. Over time, we hope that it will branch out to include OGS-organized events such as the Living on the Land Series and Homegrown Tours.

Wine and Wolves! Donate to Full Moon Farm Wolf Sanctuary
Jan 1 all-day
online w/ Full Moon Farm

Full Moon Farm is an organization dedicated to the well being of the wolfdog (wolf hybrid). Situated on 17 beautiful mountain acres in Black Mountain, NC, we operate as a federally recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization for abused and refused wolfdogs who find themselves in need of love, shelter, and care through no fault of their own.

Full Moon Farm provides a safe haven for animals that cannot be placed into homes for the rest of their lives.  Our rescued wolfdogs come from animal control agencies, closed breeding situations and occasionally, an owner in crisis.  We evaluate each animal upon intake and work with them at their level of comfort.

Some animals are “hands off” and we respect their choice, as well as that of the animals that crave human interaction.  Our goal is to enrich the lives of the residents, allowing them to reach their highest potential.  Your support by donation or sponsorship makes our task possible.

Though they may be abused or neglected, homeless because of death or divorce, they are all God’s Creatures and worthy of a lifetime of respect. We are here to serve them.

  • Nancy Brown

It’s Memorable, Fast, and Easy! Also, 15% of your purchase will directly be applied to Full Moon Farm, not only will mom be getting great wines, but you will also be supporting a great cause.

Use code GBFULLMOON19 at checkout to donate 15% to Full Moon Farm.

The Montreat Conference Center (MRA) is planning to build a 40 room hotel with meeting rooms and an underground parking garage on Assembly Drive in the center of Montreat, directly across from Robert Lake Park. We are strongly opposed.
Montreat Lodge Proposal Update
Last week, after 50+ hours of meeting over several months, expert testimony, and significant financial resources, the BoA has decided to approve the MRA’s permit application. The Special Use Permit granted to the MRA allows them to build a 40 room hotel with underground parking and meeting rooms on Assembly Drive. This is adjacent to public and privately owned property that will be significantly impacted by major development. Along with the Montreat Stewards, we are very disappointed with this decision. We believe that the proposed hotel would be detrimental to Montreat as shown by the evidence presented by the Hayner and Jones families and the demolition of invaluable historic resources is needless at best. As further legal action is considered, please consider making a donation to support the effort. Find more information at montreat-stewards.org.

Inclement weather brings CRITICAL need for Blood Donations
Jan 14 @ 9:00 am – 6:45 pm
Asheville Donor Center

Winter weather is expected to hit most of TBC’s service areas this weekend and into early next week. Not only will this impact operations for TBC, it will more importantly affect blood donor turnout, leaving the blood supply in a more unstable position. Community donors are urged to donate blood this weekend ahead of the storm to ensure hospital needs are uninterrupted. Appointments are encouraged but not mandatory. Additionally, blood drives are just as essential as blood donors. To host a blood drive, please call 864-751-5003.

One donation can save up to three lives. REMINDER: Donors who have received the COVID-19 vaccine (1st or 2nd shot) CAN donate blood. More information, including safety measures, can be found on the TBC COVID-19 webpage. TBC is strongly encouraging donors to make appointments to donate blood. Donors will receive a special gift as a thank you for saving lives

Check out the latest gardening video on the Buncombe County Master Gardener website. This presentation will outline the use of natural and organic pesticides including soaps and oils, botanicals, minerals, and biopesticides (microbials). Pests are any unwanted living organism found in your home, garden or landscape. While a good pest management plan will start with preventative, cultural and other non-chemical methods, a pesticide may also be considered. Selection guidelines, proper use and reasons for pesticide failures will be discussed.

We are proud of our partnership with Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools. Since 2007, we have awarded 44 School Garden Grants totaling over $45,000. These grants have involved more than 16,500 students and hundreds of teachers, parents, and community volunteers.

School gardens grow more than plants. They grow imagination and creativity. They make math and science come alive, and they build community. We hope your school will join us in 2022.

Gardening Video: Understanding Natural and Organic Pesticides
Jan 18 all-day
online

Check out the latest gardening video on the Buncombe County Master Gardener website. This presentation will outline the use of natural and organic pesticides including soaps and oils, botanicals, minerals, and biopesticides (microbials). Pests are any unwanted living organism found in your home, garden or landscape. While a good pest management plan will start with preventative, cultural and other non-chemical methods, a pesticide may also be considered. Selection guidelines, proper use and reasons for pesticide failures will be discussed.
