Floral Design 101 with Rachel Meriwether
Find joy in flowers at Bullington Gardens! Rachel Meriwether will share her experience as a flower farmer and a designer to get you started designing beautiful arrangements for your home, friends, and family. You will learn the basics of flower conditioning, balancing an arrangement with the vessel you are using, how to create different styles, and the principles of positive and negative space when designing.Please bring hand pruners if you have them, a small-to-medium-sized vessel of your choice (roughly the size of a quart mason jar is preferable) so you can bring your creation home, and any favorite flowers of your own! Flowers are provided, but feel free to bring anything special you would like to include.
Explore hands on activities and experiments while we learn about the Science of Bubbles or the Science of Sound. Every other week we will play and learn together using a variety of tools, instruments, and toys. AMOS has a plethora of science to intrigue the zeal of every learner!

The Thomas Wolfe Auditorium welcomes Larry the Cable Guy to Asheville, N.C., for a night of comedy. Larry the Cable Guy is a multiplatinum recording artist, Grammy nominee, Billboard award winner and one of the top comedians in the country. He has his own line of merchandise and continues to tour across the United States. Larry has created The Git–R–Done Foundation, which was named after Larry’s signature catchphrase, and donated more than 7 million dollars to various charities. Tickets go on sale to the public on March 3rd at 10am online and the HCCA Box Office.
NC State Parks is celebrating Juneteenth. Throughout the week, explore our Juneteenth Story Walk on the Great Woodland Adventure trail to learn more about this national holiday and its history.

Bee City USA – Hendersonville is eager to help you share the wonder of pollinators with children you teach. The kit includes sets of 12 sturdy child-size insect nets, special bug capture bubbles, bug boxes with magnifying lids, and magnifying glasses. Two pop-up insect habitats and two sets of laminated fold-out field guides (NC Trees & Wildflowers, NC Butterflies & Moths, Bees & Other Pollinators) are also included. The kit can be loaned for up to a week (as available) and may be picked up and returned weekdays 9am-4pm.

Join John Caveny, Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation’s own Director of Conservation and Education, as we explore, examine and discuss one of the most endangered forest types in the United States, the Spruce-Fir Forest. During this field course, participants will explore off the beaten path to find some of the largest Red Spruce trees on the park property. Participants will learn about the forest ecology and wildlife and assist John in gathering scientific data to benefit Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation’s Natural Resource Management Program. Participants need to be prepared to hike through the woods where there is no trail.
John Caveny has worked with the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation for 10 years and has served in several capacities in the park. In his current role, he oversees the Department of Conservation and Education and has been very active in developing, implementing, and expanding the natural resource management projects that occur on the property.
Program Itinerary
10:00 a.m.: Meet at the Wilson Center for Nature Discovery and Introductions
10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Field time
12:00-12:30 p.m.: Lunch at Wilson Center
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.: Spruce-fir lecture
1:30 – 3:30 p.m.: Field time
3:30 – 4:00 p.m.: Wrap up/Q&A/Evaluations
Registration
This Adult Field Course costs $60 for general admission and $51 for members of Grandfather Mountain’s Bridge Club, plus tax. Attendance is limited to 20 participants. Registration opens below on April 20 at 9 a.m.
Your program cost includes admission into the park, field instruction, and transportation during your program (you may drive your own vehicle to visit sites on the mountain if you would prefer). It does not include meals or lodging. Bringing a bagged lunch is recommended for most field courses, although Mildred’s Grill will be open to attendees. Tips are not accepted for field courses. However, donations to the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation are accepted if you would like to recognize a program.
General Clothing List
Much of your time will be spent outdoors and all programs are held rain, snow or shine. You should be prepared for a variety of mountain weather conditions and temperatures. Appropriate clothing, equipment, and footwear are very important.

Hops Around Comedy is a rotating show presented by Modelface Comedy that takes place in all your favorite Asheville breweries. This week we are at Eurisko Brewing in the South Slope!!!!
Aaron Naylor is a Chicago-based comedian from Kansas City. In 2013, he performed at his first open mic at Laff’s Comedy Caffe after moving to Tucson, AZ for a woman he barely liked.
Shortly after, he moved back to Kansas City and won the 2014 Local Comic Standing competition. He quickly became a Midwest favorite, placing 2nd in the 2016 Cleveland Comedy Festival, winning the 2017 Funniest Person in Wichita, and was a finalist on season 8 of Comcast’s Trial by Laughter.
Aaron has performed at some of the best comedy festivals in the country, including San Francisco Sketchfest, Limestone, Asheville, and 10,000 Laughs. He has also shared the stage with real comedians like Todd Barry, Sam Tallent, and Ron Funches. His comedy has been featured on Comedy Juice, Men’s Humor, and Someecards.
In 2021, Aaron was named the Funniest Person in Kansas City by KC Magazine, while also co-founding the Fountain City Comedy Festival. He tours across the country regularly, so if you’ve got some edibles, please give him some.

Asheville GreenWorks is hosting a Pollinator Day booth for its Bee City USA program at the North Asheville Tailgate Market. Pollenteers will paint bees & flowers on children’s knuckles and outfit them with bee or butterfly antennae for a scavenger hunt of the market to find the foods that benefit from the help of a pollinator and win a prize. Don’t miss the caterpillar zoo!
