Disbudding is the first step of pruning dahlias. Join Extension Master Gardener Dave Bush to learn all the steps of pruning in order to get the best blooms from your plants. Dave will also introduce the American Dahlia Society’s classification system.

Now that your vegetable garden is producing a generous harvest, storing and preserving those vegetables extends the bounty so you can enjoy the rewards of all your hard work throughout the year.
Join Cathy Hohenstein, Registered Dietitian and Extension Area Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences, Food Safety and Preparation, Nutrition and to learn about the learn more about the are many methods of preserving vegetables-some easy and some a bit more involved. Cathy will also review the latest safety recommendations for canning, freezing, dehydrating, pickling and fermentation.

Join us to learn from plant pathologist and oak decline expert Ryan Blaedow, Forest Health Protection, USDA Forest Service, about the health and status of oaks in western North Carolina.

We are excited to share that XP League Asheville will have its GRAND OPENING on August 19th where all registrations will receive a Founding Member discount = for life. We plan to have Food Trucks, free chair massages for the parents, and fun activities for kids too young to play on the gaming laptops!
Games we play include Fortnite, Minecraft (bed-wars), Rocket League, Valorant, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, and League of Legends.
A few years ago the founders of this NC based franchise recognized that online video game environments could be extremely toxic, so they created a league where kids ages 7-17 could join a team and play in person against other youth teams across the country while enjoying a safe environment, PCA certified coach-led sessions, and receive training on how to play with a positive mindset.

Join Extension Master Gardener volunteers Pat Strang and Joyce Tromba to learn how tannin and pigments in plants allow us to make amazing prints on fabric. We will collect and use leaves and flowers from the Learning Garden to create beautiful prints on cotton. We will steam botanicals on cotton bandanas to create permanent, life like images.
