MISFIT: A GARY GULMAN STAND UP COMEDY AND BOOK TOUR
Oct 7 @ 8:00 pm
The Orange Peel
Ages 18+

FULLY SEATED SHOW

Over 25 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. It’s no wonder the New York Times wrote, “Gary is finally being recognized as one of the country’s strongest comedians.”

A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program.

Today, Gulman is one of the most popular touring comics, selling out theaters around the country. He is currently on his Born On 3rd Base Tour, in which he hilariously chronicles his impoverished childhood on food stamps, free lunch and welfare checks while skewering our current Tale of Two Cities-esque wealth gap. Few, if any comedians have addressed class so deftly and entertainingly. In November 2021, Gulman performed for the first time to a sold out crowd at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City for the NY Comedy Festival.

Gulman has made four masterful TV specials including his most recent universally acclaimed stand-up special for HBO, The Great Depresh, a tour deforce look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019, he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He was most recently seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the hit Hulu comedy series, Life & Beth, and is currently writing a memoir for Flatiron Books, tentatively titled K Through 12.

Comedy at Catawba: Kenny Stempien + Derek Boskovich
Oct 8 @ 6:02 pm
Catawba Brewing Company South Slope

Every Sunday Modelface Comedy brings you the best comedians from all over the country. This week we have two very silly boys that both started comedy in Asheville before moving on to Atlanta and Chicago!

Kenny Stempien

Kenny Stempien is an Atlanta comic, by way of Asheville NC. He’s opened for nationally touring acts like Emma Willmann, David Gborie, and Zak Toscani. You can see him touring all throughout the Southeast, but mainly Atlanta and Asheville.

Derek Boscovich

Derek Boskovich is an up-and-coming standup based in Chicago, IL. As a child growing up in North Carolina, everyone laughed at him. Constantly. Mercilessly. When he grew up he decided he would use that to his advantage and became a stand-up. When he isn’t performing at clubs and bars all over the country, he is tending bar at a middle-of-the-road Italian restaurant. Derek’s comedic style is sometimes dead-pan wit about the relatable tedium of everyday life, sometimes disarming non-sequitur about random absurdities, but always delivered in a mumbly drawl. If he doesn’t make you laugh, rest assured that it’s probably your fault.

Pawpaw Seedling Sales
Oct 10 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Sand Hill Nursery at the Buncombe County Sports Park

Support Asheville GreenWorks’ Urban Forestry program by planting a native Paw Paw grown in our nursery to celebrate the release of The Hop’s Paw Paw ice cream.

You’ll need a mate to pollinate! – If you don’t have a Paw Paw already planted at your home, you may want to consider purchasing 2 from us. We will choose two different genetic strains, which is needed for cross-pollination to produce fruit. Paw Paws are self-infertile, so for good fruit set, each variety must be fertilized with pollen from a different variety of Paw Paw tree.

Paw Paws are also the host plant for Zebra Swallowtail butterflies. Learn more about Paw Paws.

Paw Paw’s can be picked up on either:

  • (Paw Paw Ice Cream release day!) Friday October 6th, 3-6pm at The Hop Merrimon – 640 Merrimon Ave #103, Asheville, NC 28804

  • Tuesday October 10th, 10am-1pm at the Sand Hill Nursery at the Buncombe County Sports Park 24 Apac Circle, Asheville, NC 28804 (first parking lot on the left past the dog park)

Please note, seedlings vary in size and will be in either 1 or 3 gallon pots.
