About this Event
How can we support our mental health, deal with our insecurities and find joy, even in tough times?
Chude Jideonwo will explore the power of human connection and how we can help each other through difficult times by sharing our experiences and feelings. Chude will explain how we can heal and build resilience, by creating safe spaces for authentic conversations about our mental and emotional health. When we learn to embrace our insecurities and imperfections, we can live more joyfully.
Chude is on an ambitious mission to transform Sub-Saharan Africa into a (mental, emotional, spiritual) safe, warm space. He is founder of Joy Inc. which supports co-working spaces and walk-in centres for young people dealing with mental health challenges. He is also the host of the hugely popular #WithChude media series across TV, Radio and Podcast, telling stories that strengthen the mind, heart and spirit.
About The Speaker
Chude Jideonwo is an inspiring Nigerian lawyer, journalist and media entrepreneur. He is the founder of Joy, Inc., a human flourishing company which aims to help people become happier, and build safe, warm spaces across business, government and culture. Chude has extensive experience in media and previously led African media group, RED | For Africa, working on national elections and social movements in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Liberia. He is a co-founder of The Future Project, focused on inspiring leadership, building entrepreneurs, and using the media as a tool for social change. He is a Forbes 30 under 30 honouree, an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Fellow, and a World Fellow at Yale University. He is the author of two books, including ‘Are We The Turning Point Generation?’, and host of #WithChude – a network of media products across TV, Radio, Podcast, Newsletter and Blog telling stories that enable and strengthen the mind, the heart, and the spirit.
ASAP’s annual Business of Farming Conference, held virtually in 2021, brings together professional and aspiring farmers from across the Southeast to network and share resources to build viable farm businesses. Farmers will learn about marketing, business planning, branding, and management from regional experts and innovative peers. Within the virtual format, attendees will have the opportunity to meet, connect, and form supportive relationships. The popular Grower-Buyer Meeting, a chance for farmers to meet directly with grocers, distributors, and chefs to discuss sourcing, will return in virtual form as well. The conference is designed for beginning and established farmers as well as those seriously considering farming as a profession. One Buncombe Launches Monday
Attention “Gig” Workers! – This grant program will support COVID-19 affected Buncombe County-based small businesses re-open and rehire Living Wage employees. It is designed to support businesses who have had a hard time accessing relief grant capital and will prioritize funding people of color-owned, woman-owned, and sole-proprietor businesses.
The mission of the grant funds is to support COVID-19 affected Buncombe County-based small businesses in their ability to re-open and rehire employees.
The One Buncombe Grant Fund helps small for-profit businesses reopen and rehire staff through grants. Please note that funds are limited and not all who apply will be awarded. The eligible grant amount will be based on firm size:
- Up to $2,500 for solopreneurs or single-member organizations
- Up to $5,000 for firms with up to 25 full-time equivalent employees

Program Timeline
- February 8: The application window opens
- All applications completed and submitted before the deadline will be considered equally. There is no benefit to rushing an application.
- February 8: Self-scheduled one-on-one application assistance opens
- February 9:The first webinar will take place at 2 pm
- February 11:The second webinar will take place at 9:30 am
- February 26: Technical support around submitting your application will conclude at 5 pm

The Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and Pardee UNC Health Care, along with Morris Broadband and Judy Stroud – State Farm Insurance, are pleased to announce the 14th Annual ATHENA Award of Henderson County in memory of Vanessa, Y. Mintz. Nominations are now open for the 2021 ATHENA award, which will be presented at the Professional Women’s Luncheon, tentatively scheduled for May, to an exemplary leader who has achieved excellence in their business or profession, served the community in a meaningful way, and, most importantly, actively assisted women to achieve their full leadership potential.
ATHENA International is a women’s leadership organization that supports, develops, and honors women leaders through the programs it administers. Vanessa Y. Mintz brought the ATHENA award to Henderson County in 2008 and she embodied the values underlying ATHENA International’s philosophy of incorporating the talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our communities, and our government. This program is facilitated locally by the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce as a licensed ATHENA host organization.
Nominations are sought throughout the community. Recipients are selected by a diverse group of out-of-town professional judges, based on ATHENA leadership criteria. Those interested in nominating should plan to tell their compelling story as if to a stranger. The deadline for nomination is Friday, April 2 at 5:00 pm. Based on the teaching of John C. Maxwell participants will learn via a series of videos and discussion. Each lesson is designed to prompt questions from the reading, draw out key values and encourage discussion. John Maxwell is a leadership expert, speaker and author. Jerry Donoghue is founder of the Asheville Compassionate Communication Center and the Inner Presence Coaching Institute in Asheville, NC. Jerry is a Master Spiritual Coach who specializes in training couples to be more compassionate with themselves and each other through his courses and private coaching. He also trains helping professionals in gentle, non-invasive, non-prescriptive approaches to support that rely on the clients’/students’ innate intelligence. He draws on his many years of teaching people compassion communication, self-compassion, and nondual awareness work to create this dynamic Inner Presence Inquiry Work.
